[01] President Clerides returns from Athens
Larnaca, Apr 26 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides today returned from
Athens, where he had an hour-long meeting on Friday with Greek Premier
Costas Simitis.
No statements were made after the meeting, but it is believed the two
men discussed an upcoming visit to the island by US Presidential Emissary
for Cyprus, Richard Holbrooke.
Holbrooke is expected to come here end of this week in a bid to break
the deadlock in the protracted Cyprus problem and to help peace talks to
resume.
During his stay in Greece the President also attended the funeral of
late Greek President, Constantinos Karamanlis.
House of Representatives President, Spyros Kyprianou, who was also in
Athens for Karamanlis' funeral, returned on the same flight as President
Clerides.
