1030:CYPPRESS:01[01] Greek Minister begins visitNicosia, May 16 (CNA) -- Greek Public Order Minister, Georgios Romeos, has expressed his government's firm support and solidarity with the government and people of Cyprus, saying Greece supports all initiatives for a solution to the protracted Cyprus problem.Romeos, who arrived last night at the invitation of his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Kosis, was speaking after a meeting this morning with President Glafcos Clerides. "I would like to express the Greek government's solidarity and reaffirm the good climate of cooperation between the two countries," he said. The Greek Minister said the President briefed him on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and added they exchanged views on efforts for a solution. Later, the Greek Minister held talks with Cyprus Justice and Public Order Minister Nicos Kosis. Later in the day, he will visit the Police Academy and Police Headquarters as well as the National Guard (Army) Headquarters. In the afternoon, he will have a meeting with House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou. Romeos is accompanied by graduates of Greece's Police Academy headed by Greek Police Chief, Lieutenant-General, Athanasios Vassilopoulos. CNA MK/MA/GP/1997ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1240:CYPPRESS:02[02] Cyprus to host meeting of Orthodoxy AssemblyNicosia, May 16 (CNA) -- The Cyprus House of Representatives will play host to a meeting of the International Secretariat of the European Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (EIAO) between May 19-20.An official announcement said the meeting will examine issues relating to the annual assembly of the EIAO, which will take place in Halkidiki, Greece, around the end of June. Delegates from the Russian Federation, Greece, Cyprus, Belarus, Romania, Georgia, Poland and Bulgaria will attend the meeting. During they stay, the delegates will be received by House President Spyros Kyprianou. They will also visit the ceasefire line in the walled city of Nicosia, the world's last divided capital, guided by Nicosia Mayor Lellos Demetriades. Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37 per cent of the island's territory.
