Speaking after a meeting of the National Council, during which the Dherynia events last month were discussed, Cassoulides said ''no-one Greek Cypriot holds Turkish Cypriots responsible for events in Dherynia since everybody knows that both the ones who carried out the crimes and those who instigated them were members of the ultra nationalist Islamic organisation 'Grey Wolves' and Turkish settlers.''

Cassoulides said Turkish Cypriot workers living in the occupied areas but working in the free areas of the Republic are always welcomed to work in the government-controlled areas.

''We are not in a conflict with Turkish Cypriots'', Cassoulides stressed, referring to a statement issued by a number of Turkish Cypriot organisations calling for peaceful co-existence of the two communities in Cyprus.

''Rauf Denktash (leader of the occupation regime) knew he could not rely on Turkish Cypriots to attack Greek Cypriot demonstrators and it is for this reason he called in the 'Grey Wolves','' Cassoulides added.

Referring to today's session of the National Council, which met under President Glafcos Clerides, Cassoulides said the body discussed and evaluated the situation after the Dherynia events.

This was the third National Council session after the Dherynia incidents in mid August.

The Council, which is made up of the leaders of the five political parties represented in the House of Representatives, is the top advisory body to President Clerides on the handling of the Cyprus problem.

Turkish troops have been occupying 37 per cent of Cyprus territory since 1974, in violation of repeated UN resolutions calling for their withdrawal.

The same sources revealed that reports to this effect were communicated today to the National Council, the top advisory body to the President on the handling of the Cyprus problem.

Council members, leaders of all five parliamentary parties, the sources said, have agreed to help reduce tension, which heightened since last month's murders of two unarmed Greek Cypriot protestors in the UN-controlled buffer zone.

Greek Cypriots who employ Turkish Cypriots have apparently been threatened by persons close to the underworld, the sources added.

[04] Satellite transmission to Cypriots abroad to continue

This was announced here today by Interior Minister official Costas Hadjipavlou during a meeting with overseas Cyrpiot organisations, holding their biennial conference.

The satellite transmissions, Hadjipavlou said, would include more programmes about the daily life of overseas Cypriot communities.

He also said that attempts are being made to incorporate programmes about Cyprus in a Greek Television satellite service to enable Cypriots in Australia and the US watch the programmes.

Overseas Cypriots will continue their deliberatations tomorrow with a discussion on the possibility of convening an international seminar in Europe on human rights in Cyprus and the destruction of the island's cultural heritage by Turkish occupation forces.

The forthcoming elections in the US and Britain will also be in tomorrow's agenda.
