[01] WORLD LEADERS ADDRESS BEST WISHES FOR 1998 TO PRESIDENT MILOSEVICTanjug, 1998-12-30President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Slobodan Milosevic has received messages of best wishes for 1998 from many world leaders. Messages were addressed by: Chinese Preident Jiang Zemin, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides, Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov, Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Leon, Chilean President Eduardo Frey Ruiz-Talle, Algerian President Liamine Zeroual, Tunisian President Abiddine Ben Ali, Moldovan President Luchinski, Ghanaian President Rawlings, Mongolian President Bagabandi, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, Vietnamese President Tranh Duc Luong, leader of Greek New democracy party Constantine Mitsotakis, Secretary-General of Greek Communist Party Aleca Papariga, President of Macedonian Socialist Party Ljubisav Ivanov, President of Pakistani People's Party Benazir Bhutto and other eminent figures. [02] MINISTER IVANISEVIC RECEIVES EGYPTIAN AMBASSADORTanjug, 1998-12-30Yugoslav Minister for labor, health and welfare Miroslav Ivanisevic received on Tuesday Egyptian Ambassador to Yugoslavia Hami Khadlaf for talks on renewing bilateral cooperation. Khadlaf handed over an invitation by the Egyptian Health Minister to Ivanisevic to visit Egypt. Khadlaf said Egypt was interested in renewing bilateral ties in health, particularly in the production of vaccines and medicines, health rehabilitation and exchange of medical experts. Ivanisevic accepted the invitation, adding that restoration of cooperation would stimulate relations between the two traditionally friendly ties. The parties agreed to exchange draft protocols and accords on cooperation in health, which the two ministers would sign during the visit in Egypt. [03] PRIME MINISTER KONTIC SENDS REPLY TO U.N. COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ROBINSONTanjug, 1998-12-30Yugoslav Prime Minister Radoje Kontic sent on Tuesday a letter to U.N. Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson, in which he reiterated that Yugoslavia devoted great attention to human rights and informed the Commissioner that Yugoslavia had set up in December a Committee for the observance of the 50th anniversary of the General Human Rights Declaration. Kontic said that the Yugoslav Government had taken the stand that Yugoslavia's current status in the U.N. should in no way negatively reflect on the country's participation in the observance of the anniversary, because Yugoslavia attached full importance to the recognition and enhancement of human rights in all domains and the significant role played in this by the U.N. The Yugoslav Prime Minister specified that the participants in the observance of the anniversary would include state institutions, universities, schools, non-governmental organizations and representatives of minorities. Prime Minister Kontic set out that Yugoslavia was among the countries which had signed the largest number of international conventions relating to=0D human rights. [04] CHAMBER OF CITIZENS RATIFIES AGREEMENTS WITH CROATIA, MACEDONIATanjug, 1998-12-30The Assembly of Yugoslavia Chamber of Citizens ratified on Tuesday quite a few agreements that Yugoslavia has signed with Croatia and the Republic of Macedonia. The Chamber ratified the Yugoslavia-Croatia agreements on border- region traffic, on border-region railway transportation, on international passenger road transportation, and on legal assistance in civil and criminal cases. The Upper House of Parliament ratified the Yugoslavia- Macedonia Agreements on the abolishment of visas, on scientific-technical cooperation, on veterinary cooperation and cooperation in the protection of plants, and on cooperation in culture, education and sports. The Chamber of Citizens ratified also agreements which Yugoslavia has signed with China, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Bulgaria. [05] LOWER HOUSE RESUMES SESSIONTanjug, 1998-12-30The Lower House of the Yugoslav Parliament resumed the first fall session on Tuesday, the agenda consisting of 47 items. The deputies are expected to endorse 30 inter-state accords and examine bills on the rights of veterans benefits, Yugoslav archives, copyrights, and amendments to court proceedings. The House adopted on Monday the Federal Budget Law, amounting to 9,693 billion dinars, amendments to federal administrative and court fees, amendments to laws on travel papers, and ratified five accords reached between Yugoslavia and Russia. [06] NEW SERBIAN PRESIDENT MILUTINOVIC RECEIVES CONGRATULATIONSTanjug, 1998-12-30The new Serbian President Milan Milutinovic is receiving telegrams of congratulations from numerous statesmen and other personages from all parts of the world, the Presidential Office said Tuesday. Foreign Ministers Lamberto Dini of Italy, Yevgeny Primakov of Russia, Teodoros Pangalos of Greece, Blagoje Handzinski of Macedonia and Mate Granic of Croatia, Presidents Muammar al-Gaddafi of Libya and Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus and former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres are among the distinguished personages who have sent telegrams of congratulations to President Milutinovic.
