AUG. 23, 1998 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJA LUKA - In Banja Luka was opened the First international summer festival "Kastel '98", at which the visitors in next six days can see the sport manifestations, exhibitions of pictures and craft-works, theatre shows for children and adult and concerts of musical groups from Republika Srpska /RS/, FR Yugoslavia and abroad. This manifestation, at which will participate more than 1,000 participants from ten countries, has opened the vice-president of RS Dragoljub Mirjanic on behalf of president of Republika Srpska Biljana Plavsic, who is the patron of the festival. While conveying regards from president Plavsic he stressed that the festival is the opportunity to show to the world the spiritual and cultural creativity of RS.

BANJA LUKA - The minister of information of RS Rajko Vasic sent a letter of thanks to the former director Branislav Ilic and the collective of Serbian Press Agency SRNA because of successfully performed takeover of duties. "With and without minister's title I am sending to Mr. Branislav Ilic and collective of SRNA the sincere gratitude for correctly performed act of takeover of duties after the decision of Government of RS about dismissing the leadership and editor in chief of SRNA and nomination of acting director and decision on changing the seat", is stated in the letter.

NOVI SAD - The newest plan of Croatian Government about return of Serbs, until now is the best legal act of that kind, because Croatia will recognise for all who has documents the inalienable citizen rights, no matter the reason why they have left the country - assessed the president of the Association of Serbs from Croatia and Serbs returnees Djuro Kresovic. According to his words, the Croatian Government had obliged itself to propose to Assembly the amendments of the Law on expelled persons, regulations connected with housing development, as well as building damaged and destroyed objects and the Law on regions of specific state interest.

PRIJEDOR - At the Monument of mass grave of victims of "ustashas'" terror from Second World War which is in the hamlet Zajednice near Prijedor was held a requiem, and in the presence of numerous citizens the religious service has conducted the local priest Mladen Maric. In the night between August 1 and 2, 1941, ustashas from this region, in the most atrocious way - by bayonets, sledge-hammers and axes - killed 549 Serbs and three Ukrainians from nine surrounding villages under Kozara.

TREBINJE - As the sign of memory on the night between June 23 and 24 1941, in Pridvorci near Trebinje was sanctified the pit in which Moslem "ustashas" have thrown 13 Serbs.

STOCKHOLM - The ALbanians at Kosovo are in illusions when they think that the international sympathies for them will turn towards the support for independence, because if Dayton agreement said that there are no changes of Republican borders, than it also applies on Albanians in Kosovo and FYRM, as well as for Serbs in Croatia and Serbs and Croats in B&H. This is the opinion of expert for events on Balkans and researcher in the Swedish Centre for multi-ethnic studies of the Upsala University Helm Magnuson, published in the Swedish daily "Dages Niheter".

SKOPJE - The problems at Kosovo should be solved in peaceful way, in political dialogue - is the conclusion of talks on political security situation in the region, and especially in Kosovo and Metohija, of the premiers of FYRM and Albania Branko Crvenkovski and Fatos Nano. The two statesmen, who met in Ohrid, have assessed that between Albania and FYRM the relations were improved, especially in the field of economic cooperation, what is, as stressed, the result of several signed inter-state agreements.

DOBOJ - The team of Belgrade's "Partizan" is the winner of the 30th international handball TV-tournament of champions "Doboj '98", since in the final match they have beaten Pelister from Bitolj, from FYRM, with the score 29:23 /14:12/. The third place at the Tournament belongs to the Moscow CSK after the win against Zeljeznicar from Nis with score 29:26.
