NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The President of Republika Srpska (RS), Biljana Plavsic, gave as a gift to the Banjaluka University, part of the computer equipment which her Cabinet received as a help from the Government of Spain. Before the occasion, attended by the vicepresident of RS and a rector Dragoljub Mirjanic, professors and students from Banjaluka, President Plavsic lighted a candle for students killed in the war.

BANJALUKA - The RS Government will discuss, at the 21st session in Banjaluka, Proposal of Regulation on additional financial help for disabled veterans. According to the agenda the Government will take a position regarding the Ministry of Vetarans' Affairs, victims of war and work, initiatives for changes of the Law on rights of soldiers and disabled vetarans.

BANJALUKA - The President of the RS Alternative Government, Dubravko Prstojevic, thinks that a statement made by the Deputy High Representative, Hans Schumacher, about possible imposing of sanctions against RS because of Serbs' "disobedience" , exceeds every measure of democracy. At the press- conference in Banjaluka Prstojevic said that Schumacher's statement confirms, a conflict of interests between the U.S. and Germany regarding the agreement signed in Dayton.

BANJALUKA - A spokesman for the RS Socialist Party (SPRS), Igor Radojicic, assessed as an improper statement of Hans Schumacher, Deputy High Representative, that sanctions will be imposed against Banjaluka and RS. "Declarations , as such, cannot bring back refugees , but adequate economic- social conditions can", said Radojicic at the press-conference.

KRALJEVO - In the last five days in the Municipal Red Cross more than 200 men registered , all refugees from Kosovo and Metohija. Refugees from Kosovo does not have a status of refugees or displaced persons because they are citizens of FRY.

BRCKO - A ban of supervisor Robert Farrand on dismissal of elected or appointed officials in the Brcko Municipality protects Croatian interests who left the Croatian Democratic Party (HDZ) and joined the New Croatian Initiative. Deputy Mayor of Brcko Ivan Krndelj, former vice-president of the HDZ Municipal Board

Ravne Brcko, confirmed for SRNA that all Croatian officials in Brcko joined the New Croatian Initiative. "A conflict within the HDZ was not obvious at first, but it is present for some time and forming of another party is just the final expression of that conflict", said Krndelj.

MOSTAR - A Chief secretary of the B&H HDZ , Marko Tokic, denied all accusations that the HDZ was obstructing return of refugees, assessing as hypocrisy calls of the international community on all Croats to come back to eastern, Muslim part of the city of Mostar - Croatian Radio Herceg-Bosna reports. "Croatian houses in the eastern part of Mostar are not empty" , said Tokic.

NOVI SAD - Director of the Belgrade's Museum of the victims of genocide, dr. Milan Bulajic, stated for the Novi Sad's "Dnevnik" that Croatia before the trial against former commander of the Jasenovac concentration camp, Dinko Sakic, is trying to reduce , again, number of victims in the camp. Every auctioning off with with victims is in the fact the new crime - said Bulajic. He was referring to the recent "surprising" and "sensational" discovery in Zagreb that, according to alleged notebooks of the State Commission for establishing of war crimes of the former FNRJ, in Croatia in the Second World War only 58,291 men were victims of the terror, of whom 15. 291 men were killed in the Jasenovac concentration camp.

ROGATICA - A regular six-month change within the SFOR Portuguese battalion was concluded in Rogatica and instead of the Parachute battalion in the next six months in the city will be stationed the Alpa group. Transfer of duties was attended by Portuguese ambassador to Sarajevo, commander of the SFOR brigade North general Cidjo and representatives of the Rogatica Municipal Assembly.

DOBOJ - A rabbi Josif Atijas will represent the Jewish Community from Doboj on the Festival of a Sephardic music "Esperans '98", which will be held in Sofia in July, 22nd - 26th, stated for SRNA president of the Doboj Jewish Municipality Mordehaj Atijas. The RS delegation as well as Jewish communities from several European countries will take part on the Festival.

BANJALUKA - The President of Republika Srpska (RS), Biljana Plavsic, held talks in Banjaluka with the political director of the Belgian Foreign Affairs Ministry Jean de Royt about political situation in the region and the forthcoming elections. Royt announced arrival of two battalions to the SFOR brigade in Banjaluka. Stressing the important role of the President Plavsic "during process of reconciliation in B&H", de Royt expressed hope that problem of refugees will be solved in a proper manner as a problem "of significant interest for B&H and Europe".

SARAJEVO - The B&H Council of Ministers, at the session scheduled for tomorrow in Sarajevo, will discuss implementation of the Law on the Council of Ministers and Ministries as well as preparations for negotiations with the Paris's club of creditors. According to the agenda, at the tomorrow's session documents of bilateral nature about traffic communications between Croatia and B&H will be discussed.

BANJALUKA - The Presidents of the Assembly and the Banjaluka Executive Board, Djordje Umicevic and Nebojsa Radmanovic, and a governor of the Sarajevo Canton Mithad Haracic, said in Banjaluka that these two cities have provided basic political conditions for return of refugees but there is a need for the international community to invest assets for building of new housing units. "Without the help of the international community adequate solution will not be found" - said Radmanovic after the meeting.

BANJALUKA - The General Council of the RS Union of Syndicates made a resolution in Banjaluka on improvement of rights of workers and made some changes of the Statute, related to the reform of the Syndicate and its adapting to the modern world standards. It has been concluded that the RS Union of Syndicates will urge that the lowest labour price, by the end of the year, must be 100 KM.

PODGORICA - The President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, said at the press- conference in Podgorica that yesterday's meeting between Presidents of the RS and Montenegro Government, Milorad Dodik and Filip Vujanovic, was a confirmation and continuation of a good cooperation between two republics. These kind of meetings will become usual, said Djukanovic. He announced that the Montenegrian Assembly would elect new Government, headed by Filip Vujanovic, which is going to be "of a coalition nature and multiethnic, what represents new democratic way and new quality of the political life in Montenegro".

VIENNA - The Yugoslav Ambassador to Austria, Dobrosav Velzovic, pointed to the "inadmissible support to the terroristic action of the so called the Kosovo Liberation Army, occasionally given by some Austrian media but also by some officials. Velzovic had talks yesterday on that subject with Albert Konecni, Secretary for the international relations of the Socialdemocratic party of Austria. They were also discussing current political situation in Kosmet and Parliamentary cooperation between two countries.

PRISTINA - During the attack on the police checkpoint near Decani, ethnic Albanian terrorists injured a policeman Branko Jelic - Media center announced. He was transferred to the hospital in Pec and his life is out of the danger. A group of ethnic Albanian terrorists kidnapped yesterday, in the village of Orlance, near Urosevac Fazli and Gafur Musli, watchmen in the Plantaza enterprise - Media Centre announced.

SKOPLJE - The Democratic Party of ethnic Albanian (DPA) which leader Arben Jaferi warned that it will call on all ethnic Albanian recruits not to respond on serving the military obligation in the BJRM Army if harassing of ethnic Albanian soldiers is not to be stopped - agencies reported. This party claims that it has number of information and evidences regarding physical and psychological terror over ethnic Albanian soldiers.

BELGRADE - The Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) assessed that FRY stances and stances of leading world forces, regarding the Kosmet crisis, are significantly becoming closer. "That fact is confirmed by arrival of the OSCE delegation in Serbia because that organisation, as a leading European institution, is the first and most important step for FRY to return to the international community" - is said in the announcement.

BANJALUKA - The President of Republika Srspska (RS), Biljana Plavsic, assessed an announcement of the Deputy High Representative for B&H Hans Schumacher, on possible imposing of sanctions against RS and Banjaluka, because of inadequate dynamic of return of refugees, as unacceptable and shocking. Commenting the Schumacher's statement in the "Dnevni avaz" Plavsic said that "Serbian people is immune on sanctions which were very often announced and applied". As shocking she also assessed an announcement of Mr. Schumacher that "that many heads must be cut", adding that the accuracy of that statement is still to be checked.

SARAJEVO - The President in the B&H Presidency from RS, Momcilo Krajisnik, expressed satisfaction after talks with the President of the RS Academy of Science and Arts (ANURS) , Petar Mandic, who informed him about determination of all members of the Academy for preserving and improvement of Serbian spirituality. In the public announcement from the Krajisnik's Cabinet is said that Krajisnik expressed pleasure with the fact that the ANURS has personnel potential, capable to join the world's science and cultural streams.

BANJALUKA - The RS Government adopted at the session in Banjaluka a By-law on additional financial help to the disabled veterans by which allowances for the fist category are increased 100%. Vice-president of the RS Government, Ostoja Kremenovic, confirmed to the press that this By-law will contribute to the financial situation of this category of the population.

BRCKO - Joint meeting of the commissions for the arbitrage of the RS and FB&H will be held tomorrow in Brcko. The delegations will be headed by the RS Prime Minister, Milorad Dodik, and the President of the FB&H, Ejup Ganic. After the meeting the press-conference will be held.

BANJALUKA - The RS Prime Minister, Milorad Dodik, and members of the Cabinet will have a meeting in few days with the representatives of the RS Pensioner's Association in order to find solution for financial problems for about 90,000 pensioners in RS. This has been agreed at the meeting between Government's representatives and the Association in Banjaluka.

VUKOVAR - In the last 65 days 400 of Serbian families had left eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Zapadni Srem - stated at the press-conference the President of the Independent Democratic Party, Vojislav Stanimirovic. According to him, 40,000 Serbs returned to Croatia of whom 17,000 were temporarily settled in eastern Slavonia.

SIBENIK - Gorana Pasic, a wife of a former commissioner for the region of Knin, Petar Pasic, is on a hunger strike for six days now. She is protesting because of discrimination against her family - "Vjesnik" reports. Her husband Petar, a Serb, has been dismissed last year, on January 15th, from his duty as a commissioner and since than he can not have a job.

PRISTINA - On the Srbica-Kosovska Mitrovica road near the village of Trnavce 14 members of the Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry have been injured of whom 3 badly and 11 easily - SRNA has learned in Kosovska Mitrovica. According to the same source ethnic Albanian terrorists opened fire on a bus in which were policemen and had shot it with the rifle grenade .

PODGORICA - The President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, held talks in Podgorica with the delegation of the European Democratic Union (EDU), headed by the executive secretary Alexis Vintoniak. Djukanovic said that ethnic Albanians must be guaranteed autonomy within FRY, with guarantees of the international community. He informed the delegation that this was about an old problem and solution must be searched in negotiations, with guarantees of the international community, and the main goal must be cessation of the clashes and begging of a dialogue according to the mentioned positions".

NEW YORK - In the UN Security Council informal consultations are in progress about forming of the UN mission in B&H i.e. programme for observing and estimation of the law system within whole programme of reform of the law system. The Security Council should approve 26 international law observes for functioning of the law system in B&H.

BANJALUKA - On the occasion of the slava, dedicated to the protector of the Banjaluka bishopric, St. Bonaventura, three-day bishopric conference is concluded in Banjaluka. The conference was attended by Sarajevo's archbishop Vinko Puljic, bishops from Mostar and Banjaluka, Ratko Peric and Franjo Komarica and an associate of Puljic's, Pero Sudar. The occasion was also attended by bishops from Croatia,Slovenia, Montenegro and Switzerland, as well as the representative of the Vatican Embassy to B&H, Mario Kasari.

BANJALUKA - In the organisation of the International Intercultural Centre from Sarajevo, a round table discussion was held in Banjaluka "Interreligious dialogue in B&H", which participants were talking about of importance of religion and reconciliation in these regions. Archpriest from Sarajevo, Krstan Bjeljac, pointed out the need for help in the region of spirituality in order for life in these regions "to be in a spirit of tolerance and God's laws." "All the more so that all of us believe in one God, with different names for Him".

PRIJEDOR - The protocol has been signed in Prijedor on a business-economic cooperation, based on market principles between the MDP the Business system of Prijedor and the Zenica Iron and Steal Plant. With the signed protocol both sides agreed that the main goal of further business cooperation is establishing of economic cooperation in interest of all economic totalities, traditionally connected.
