NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The French president Jacques Chirac arrived to Sarajevo, where he will separately and then together talk with members of the Presidency of B&H. As we are informed in French embassy, Mr. Chirac would meet in Sarajevo the president of Republika Srpska /RS/ Biljana Plavsic. It was planned that Mr. Chirac would address youngsters of all three nations in the National Theatre, however, the students from Banja Luka cancelled the participation because of the security reasons. After the visit to the base of French-German brigade of SFOR, Chirac will leave for Mostar, where he will meet the members of General Staff of the French division charged for stabilisation of peace in South-Western part of B&H.

TREBINJE - The premier of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic announced in Trebinje that the president of Montenegro parliament Svetozar Marovic will visit Banja Luka on April 8 where he would talk with the presidents, of RS Biljana Plavsic, of parliament Dragan Kalinic and of Government Milorad Dodik. During the meeting with the premier Dodik at the Ducic'e evenings of poetry, stressed that these talks would mean further affirmation of mutual cooperation of two republics and expressed the expectations that on all levels would be reached contacts, necessary for cooperation of two republics and better life of their citizens.

BANJA LUKA - The president of RS Biljana Plavsic congratulated to Serbian Press Agency /SRNA/ its St. Patron's Day - Annunciation of our Most Holy Lady Theotokos - and expressed the hope that SRNA will, by its objective and professional informing, following the democratic processes, persist on the way of truth for the benefit of Serbian people. "The time behind us is the best witness how difficult is to fight for truth, but without that struggle there is no progress", - accentuated Mrs. Plavsic in the congratulation for SRNA, which is, as is stressed, been founded, developed and has got its identity in difficult war years - the same as RS.

TREBINJE - This year's winner of the Ducic's Award for poetry, Belgrade's poet Slobodan Rakitic stated in Trebinje that he was very pleased with the reward which carries the name of one of the greatest Serbian poets and that this paying tribute to him is the great honour. "Best poems of Jovan Ducic were created like icons, with poets dedication to the early deep religiousness and his last poems were written for the glory of Serbs and great Christian principles" - stressed Rakitic. The programme of the manifestation will be continued by the arch-priest liturgy for the memory of Jovan Ducic in the temple in Trebinje and amphitheatre Heta will be held the promotion of the anthology "Waiting for Ducic's return".

SARAJEVO - The premier of Republika Srpska /RS/ Milorad Dodik stated after the meeting in Lukavica with the representatives of U.S. Congress that this institution allocated to Srpska five million $US for payment of salaries. "In question are resources which U.S. State Secretary Madelaine Albright offered and approved during my visit to U.S.A. I am informed that until June for various projects will be approved 50 million $US", explained Dodik and added: "Already now we have good cooperation with Congress, and regarding the Government of RS Government it cooperates well with institutions in USA. It would be good to extend cooperation also on the level of our parliament and their Senate".

SARAJEVO - The president of National Assembly of RS Dragan Kalinic talked in Pale with Mark Kirk, John Haruberg and Cliff Capan, high counsellors of the Committee for foreign affairs of U.S. Congress, about "the previous results and key controversies in realisation of Dayton Agreement, especially in Srpska". In the announcement is stated that Kalinic proposed that in organisation of Foreign-political Committee of U.S. Congress is organising the meeting with PMs from both entities, in order to be analysed actual obstacles and all attempts of revision of Dayton Agreement and instigated by positive processes in its realisation.

SARAJEVO - The French president Jacques Chirac, while addressing the politician, population, and especially to youngsters of B&H, called upon on reconciliation, tolerance and turning towards Europe and European values, stressing that the future of B&H is in hands of young people. Mr. Chirac, in his addressing in the National Theatre in the federal part of Sarajevo, stressed that B&H belongs to Europe, stressing that "RS, thanks to president Biljana Plavsic and new government, is opening towards Europe, and federation B&H /FB&H/", as he said "is organising itself slowly in the community of nations which makes it".

BANJA LUKA - The RS Government decided to changed the Law on Customs tariff, by which during import of reproduction material, the raw materials and equipment are being introduced four rates of customs /0,5,10 and 15/, which are substantially lower related to the former, while tariff for motor and trailer vehicles and machines will be implemented in the same way as until now.

BANJA LUKA - The spokesman of the OSCE Office in Banja Luka Paul Hockins stated at the press conference that PEC has introduced three new items in the Electoral rules for implementing September's elections in RS and FB&H. Hockins stated that new articles of the Electoral rules are related to the gender, preelection campaign and ban for nomination, stressing that each candidate list should have three women.

SARAJEVO - The spokesman of SFOR in Sarajevo Louis Garneaut informed reporters that during this week, in the framework of the programme of collecting mines and other explosive devices, was delivered 1,200 mines, 1, 400 artillery grenades and mortar shells, 2,200 grenades, 9,000 peaces of round and 350 kg of explosive. Garneaut announced that SFOR's team for education will visit Lukavica on Sunday, April 11, in the framework of the programme for additional training in the field of computers, foreign languages, culture and sport.

SARAJEVO - In spite of the demand for fully respecting and implementing the provisions of Dayton Agreement and to stop the men hunt in FB&H that is not realised, and federal government is more unscrupulous in violation of freedom of movement, is announced for SRNA from the Protest board "Who is next" in Serbian Sarajevo. This board demanded preventing illegitimate arresting of Serbs and to release all of them, including Goran Vasic, and deliver to the authorities in RS. The board deems that international factors are not preventing federal authorities to violate the freedom of movement, and are not reacting on their inhumane acts.

BRCKO - Out of 126 million DEM which European Commission has approved for the projects of return of refugees in 1998 to B&H. twelve millions will be spent for reconstruction of 300 Croatian homes, refurbishing infrastructure. and rehabilitation of schools and ambulance in the settlement Ulice, in the zone of separation in the South-west part of Brcko municipality. This announced in Brcko Rachel Patterson, the president of NGOs of European Salvation Army and Scotch European Aid, which will monitor and manage these projects.

BANJA LUKA - On the occasion of Bajram, the minister of religions of RS Jovo Turanjanin sent a congratulation letter to MR. Ibrahim Halilovic, mufti of Banja Luka, and all citizens of Islam religion in RS. "I wish that this your great joy finally contribute to defeat evil for ever before the God's justice and acts worthy of man" - is said in the congratulation letter.

PRIJEDOR - The municipal board of Serbian People's Union /OO SNS/ of Prijedor assessed that the work of the first Assembly of the municipal organisation was satisfying. According to the words of the president of municipal board of the party Tomislav Prpos, the composition of the assembly organs and bodies, as well as engagement of 45 community boards organised in all local communities of the municipality Prijedor, are the guarantee that the party be ready for pre-electoral campaign.

DOBOJ - The manager of the industrial development of the Chamber of EU will instigate the development of the economic regions of RS, having in view their economic structure and development.

PEC - His Holly Highness Serbian patriarch Mr. Pavle served in Pec Patriarchy, on the occasion of the Christian holiday Annunciation, the holy arch-priest liturgy of St. Vasilije.

SARAJEVO - The president from Republika Srpska /RS/ in Presidency of RS Momcilo Krajisnik approved at the meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of B&H Peter Nicol and economic counsellor of the High Representative Carlos Westendorp Didier Fauo the initiative for cancelling National Bank of B&H, according to the acting law. In the announcement from the Cabinet of President Krajisnik forwarded to SRNA is stated that it is necessary to pass certain procedure, according to which the liquidator will be the American William Dudley, who will propose to the Governor Nicole for three weeks the plan of liquidation of National Bank of B&H.

BRCKO - If the president of National Assembly of RS Dragan Kalinic convened the extraordinary session of Assembly, the delegates of the Socialistic Party /SP/ of RS will ask to include in agenda the discussion about taking over the authority between old and new government, announced the secretary general of the party and people's delegate Zeljko Mirjanic. "We shall ask the former government publicly to report about what they left to the new government - money or debts", stressed Mirjanic at the work meeting of municipal board of SPRS in Brcko, warning that because of slowness in the process of taking over duties there are doubts that in RS are being created parallel organs of authority.

TREBINJE - The initiative board of the Party of Independent Social- democrats /SNSD/ of RS nominated in Trebinje Dobrosav Cuk for the president of Municipal Board and elected the Assembly of municipal board with 45 members. At the inaugural session were elected also other party organs, by which this party defined its entering into political life of Trebinje municipality.

BELGRADE - By adopting the Decision on Republican Referendum for April 23, at which the citizens will come out with their decision whether they accept participation of foreign representatives in solving problem in Kosovo, and Decision about forming Commission for its conducting the delegates of Serbian Assembly finished the second meeting of the spring session. The decisions were adopted by the majority of votes.
