SARAJEVO - The UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko stated for SRNA last night that UN are welcoming "the professional engagement of police of Republika Srpska (RS) during crisis caused by arresting of two RS citizens" - Goran Vasic and Slavisa Lale. UN spokesman stated in a telephone conversation for SRNA that the police of Sarajevo Canton has released Lale, while Vasic is still in custody, because federal B&H police was charging him of murder of a former Deputy Prime Minister Hakija Turajlic in 1993.

SARAJEVO - The Municipal Board of Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) of Srpska Ilidza has accused last night Muslim Secret Police for kidnapping of two RS citizens - Goran Vasic and Slavisa Lale on the inter-entity boundary line in Dobrinja, a settlement of Sarajevo.

BELGRADE - The Ministry of Information of Republic of Serbia asked yesterday from the vice-president of French Doctors Association for Preventing Nuclear War DSc Abraham Behara to substantiate his statement dating from January 13 for French TV Channel 3 that Serbs in B&H have tried to use bacteriological weapons and during tests in a hospital infected 500 persons with variola. Republican Information Ministry claims that it does not have any data on experimenting or possessing of such weapons by army of former Yugoslavia or current Serbian army.

BANJALUKA - On the occasion of 56th anniversary of massacre of 2,370 Serbs committed by ustashas (pro-fascist collaborator in NDH - Independent State of Croatia), which took place in villages near Banjaluka on February 7 in 1942, a romanesque monograph on this crime - the book "Drakulici" by writer and journalist Jovan Babic was promoted in the Culture Centre of Banski Dvor in Banjaluka last night. The book is consisted of two parts - the first part "Resurrected Draculas (Vaskrsle drakule)" is about executioners and the other one about the victims - "Dead Stories (Mrtve price)". The first part of this book is written in Latin letters, etymological letter and language of Ante Pavelic's NDH, and the other one is written in Cyrillic and Serbian.

AMSTERDAM - A court trial against the former mayor of Vukovar Slavko Dokmanovic, charged of alleged war crimes, is going to be the briefest trial before the Hague Tribunal, which should be closed in record time - stated his defence attorney from Belgrade Toma Fila. He anticipates that all witnesses of the prosecutor Grant Neiman should be interrogated before the end of February, by which the defence would get the floor. "The trial against Dokmanovic will be in that way closed in less than a year, which has never happened in the Tribunal before" - said Toma Fila.

MUNICH - German Chancellor Helmut Kohl stated in Munich that the same number of German soldiers in B&H would stay also after SFOR mandate has expired in June of this year - reports DPA. "We have to preserve unstable truce in B&H also after expiration of SFOR mandate" - stated Kohl at opening of a Conference on Political Security. There are 3,000 German soldiers in multinational forces in B&H.

RUDO - Thanks to generous help of members of IPTF and SFOR eight-year-old Jelena Pavlovic went to Rome for treatment together with her father and an interpreter. This pupil of a second grade of Primary School suffers from complete defect of Calcium in bones, therefore the smallest fall would be fatal.

NAGANO - Japanese emperor Akihito solemnly opened 18th Winter Olympic Games in a Olympic Stadium in Nagano - report agencies. At the games, which are going to last for 16 days, 2,339 sportsmen from 72 countries will contest, which is a record number, and 68 complete sets of medals will be given. The Olympic flame at the stadium was ignited by the last torch bearer a Japanese Midory Oto, the winner of Silver medal in figure ice-skating in 1992 Olympic games.
