NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BRCKO - The president in the Presidency of B&H from Republika Srpska /RS/ Momcilo Krajisnik congratulated to the citizens of Brcko, who prevented taking over the Police Station and Centre of the Public Security in the city, and "first have broken the occupation of RS according to the scenario from Banja Luka". "I hope that you will repeat the same accomplishment hundred times, if we were endangered, because we have a right to defend ourselves - gave a massage Mr. Krajisnik in front of the more thousands Serbs, who are in the streets of Brcko. Along with the request to people not to provoke incidents with the representatives of the international community without the need, and invitation on peace, Krajisnik added that that rule will be respected until another attempt of taking over the power.

BRCKO - The president of the National Assembly /NS/ of RS Dragan Kalinic congratulated to the citizens of Brcko the successful defence of the city and called upon them not to attack foreigners if they do not touch them, but also their Serbian brothers, because, warned the president of the Serbian Parliament, "evil is to be drawn into the inter-Serbian conflict". "It is most important to defend what in this city belongs to you, that is your children wives, houses, police and army, that is what the people has to defend together with us" - said Kalinic. Transmitting the congratulations of the people from Sokolac, Serbian Sarajevo, Bijeljina and Zvornik, the president of NS RS conveyed the message to the citizens of Brcko that whole Serbian people breath together with them.

SOKOLAC - RS is unique state, arisen from the blood of the Serbian people, and we shall not allow its division and cantonisation - is the message from the pre-electoral rally of the Serbian Democratic Party /SDS/ in Sokolac. Talking before several thousand of citizens of Sokolac and other municipalities of Serbian Sarajevo, the president in the Presidency of B&H from RS Momcilo Krajisnik assessed that "RS is endangered, not only from the for centuries old Serbian enemies, but also from the people who wish that we shall believe that they are naive". Reminding on the genesis of events which happened prior to the division in Republika Srpska Krajina /RSK/, the president of NS RS Dragan Kalinic assessed that the time has come when RS must be defended. Once again he repeated to the international community previously said stance that Serbian people will not accept the blackmails and any kind of pressures.

BRCKO - The president of the RS Government Gojko Klickovic thanked to the citizens of Brcko because they disabled the members of SFOR to occupy the Centre of public security /CJB/ in Brcko and in that way stopped the occupation of the country and prevented the destiny of the RSK to happen here. He stressed that, according to the yesterday prepared scenario, already tomorrow in "free" Bijeljina have to be held the public addressing and rallies. According to him ,"current commander of SFOR - Ms Biljana Plavsic was insolent yesterday and put in the SFOR tanks and uniforms the Serbian children and to send them to Duge Njive".

UGLJEVIK - The minister of the Internal Affairs of RS Slavko Paleksic and the commander of the multinational division of SFOR North general David Grange talked in the seat of the Russian brigade of SFOR in Ugljevik about events in Bijeljina, Brcko and other parts of RS. This was the first contact between RS representatives and SFOR after the events in this part of Republics.

SARAJEVO - The minister of Information of RS Svetlana Siljegovic accused the U.S. TV network CNN that again is spreading the false news about events in RS reporting that in Brcko and Bijeljina the "SFOR troops found themselves between two confronted Serbian factions". "That is not truth. We know very well that in Brcko and Bijeljina didn't come nobody else but units of SFOR to occupy the vital objects of the state government and state media" - said the minister Siljegovic in the statement for SRNA.

BRCKO - The representatives of the Municipal Assembly /SO/ Brcko from the urgent session called upon the citizens to restrain from the provocations and using the force and in the same time required from SFOR and other international organisations to stop the violent interference in the internal affairs of RS. The council for security of the municipality Brcko is widened with five members and until the ease of situation are in the permanent session, and from SO have got the mandate to decide independently in the critic moments. Because not coming at the session of the Council and the fact that in the critic moments left the city, from the duty is dismissed the chief of the Police Station of Brcko Andrija Bjelosevic, and for acting chief is appointed Petko Budisa, the former chief of the CJB /centre of public security/ Bijeljina.

BRCKO - The president of the Municipal Board of the Municipal Assembly /SO/ Brcko Radoslav Bogicevic is convinced that the people will withdraw from the streets alone if SFOR withdraw its tanks and helicopters. At the meeting in the base Mc Govern the commander of the multi national division of SFOR sector North David Grange requested from the delegation of the municipality Brcko that Serbian police help in securing the bridge on the river Sava and guarantee the security of the members of international organisations in this city. In return he promised that his soldiers will not go on the Police station and Centre for the public security, and that the check-point on the bridge on the Sava river will guard only one squad, that they will not open new check points and that they will limit themselves only on the ordinary duties, which will nor irritate the citizens.

BRCKO - In the low flight two helicopters of SFOR over the buildings in Brcko was wounded the driver Rade Andric, who was in the whirlpool of the stones and glass, and the antenna of Radio Brcko was destroyed. The window panes on the building where is the Radio and SRNA branch, and in the streets were created big whirls of dust, broken glass and tree branches.

BRCKO - The international supervisor for Brcko Robert Farrand gave the public announcement, in which he called the citizens of Brcko to disperse peacefully and go back home. In the announcement forwarded to SRNA Farrand cited that the objective of his Office is "to reach the democratic society under the laws of the legal state" and that because of that "he condemns the violent acts". The supervisor said that "he and the relevant authorities are working on the easing the current tensions, which are not in the interest of nobody, except those subordinated to the destroying of the Dayton peace process".

BRCKO - The command of the multi national division /MND/ North announced that the actions in the zone of responsibility of this division, in which is Brcko, were undertaken because of preventing the potential confrontation between legal police forces an units loyal to the president of RS Biljana Plavsic. In the announcement is stated that they had information that the forces of Ms. Plavsic will try to take over some police and radio-TV stations.

BIJELJINA - The action of SFOR in Bijeljina represent the classical demonstration of military force, assessed the vicepresident of the Municipal Board SO Bijeljina Drago Novakovic. He stressed that it is necessary to start the talks with the representatives of IPTF, in order to stop finally the frightening the people by armed forces.

ZVORNIK - The members of the U.S. brigade of SFOR made two check points for control of traffic: on the road Zvornik - Sekovici on Crni Vrh, and on the road Zvornik i Bijeljina in the settlement Celopek, which have taken over the members of the CJB Zvornik. The responsible from this CJB announced that on these places there are several armoured vehicles of SFOR, but that by taking over these points by Serbian police decreased the increased tensions between the local population and members of SFOR. The members of U. S. brigade of SFOR in ?Zvornik settlement Calopek performed the strict control of vehicles and passengers who were travelling on the direction Pale - Bijeljina.

BIJELJINA - The legal authorities of RS again control the transmission station of SRT on Ugrovo, north from Bijeljina. As announced in the central informational programming of the Serbian television "Novosti" the relay station on Ugrovo is again included in unique informational system of RS.

TUZLA - SFOR acknowledged that they used the tear gas and shot in the air "as the sign of warning" for Serbs in Brcko, who came in the streets to prevent the occupying of the Centre of public security /CJB/ - reports AFP. In the announcement from the base in Tuzla the attacks against the Serbian civilians SFOR is justifying by assertions that they first started to throw stones and bottles on their members.

SYDNEY - The Serbian National Alliance from Australia called on RS president Biljana Plavsic to honour the legally installed institutions and to give up anarchy and rifts which seriously threaten RS unity. "This is a disparate attempt by Serb Odysseus without their motherland, to turn the RS president back on the right road", says the letter signed on behalf of thousands of Australian Serbs by the Australian Serbian National Alliance president Velimir Prodanovic. In the letter, Mrs Plavsic is drawn attention at a fatal fact that with the assistance of proven anti-Serb elements she usurped the authority in the Banjaluka region and split RS into two in order to prepare grounds for an easier Croat and Muslim occupation.

BRCKO - The head of the SP for RS Brcko Board, Petar Djokic, stated for SRNA that the SP for RS did not take part in any forcible power take-over in Brko or elsewhere. "We do not belong to this opposition which tries to forcibly take over power, but in stead we are committed for the struggle by democratic means", Djokic assessed.

VITEZ - SFOR troops withdrew from three of total five police stations in Banjaluka the kept under control in the past several days, confirmed SFOR Sector South-West spokesman, British colonel Mike Wright. At a regular press conference he specified that SFOR troops assisted IPTF in conducting an investigation of the MUP Training Centre in Banjaluka.

TREBINJE - The vice-president of the Socialist Party (SP) for RS and deputy in the RS National Assembly, Dragutin Trivanovic, stated that this Party battled for the RS unity from Trebinje to Novi Grad . "Those who believe otherwise is the enemy of this country and this people", stated Trivanovic at last nights SP for Rs tribune in "RS today in the view of the elections" in Trebinje.

BANJALUKA - The president of the Serbian Party of the Krajina and Posavina, Predrag Lazarevic, assessed in Banjaluka that extremely unjustified and imprudent actions by SFOR could have irredeemable consequences for RS. He said that all international organisations in RS must honour the Dayton agreement. "Brcko is a very sensitive issue, and that is why the international community must not play with an inseparable part of RS and with three thousand votes of unregistered eligible Serbs voters for the local elections, either ", Lazarevic warned.

NOVI SAD - The head of the Southern Backa District in the Executive Board of the Vojvodina Assembly, Obrad Milosevic, warned that SFOR through its violent actions against the Public Security Centre (CJB) in Brcko and Bijeljina directly involved into RS internal matters. Milosevic, the member of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Vojvodina Regional Board, appealed, in his statement for SRNA, to unity and wisdom of the RS state leadership for the sake of the survival of both people and their state. He pointed out that a possible visit of Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic to RS "would not be paid under the order or desire of the US secretary of state Madlen Albright, but for the reason of reconciliation of the RS state leadership".

NOVI SAD - The Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) for Novi Sad grieves over all innocent people wounded in clashes with SFOR in Brcko and condemns 'instrumentalisation' of the Serb civil populace in a fight between Pale and Banjaluka, stated the SPO Novi Sad City Board spokesman , Lazar Slepcev. SPO position is that the candidates for the Hague Tribunal push their own people in confrontations such as these are, in an attempt to evade responsibility for all ordeal they made to their own people.

SRPSKO GORAZDE - If OSCE fails to issue separate lists of registered voters as soon as possible, no local elections would be implemented in the municipality of Serb Gorazde, concluded the Local Electoral Commission. OSCE was forwarded objections and due to pending dispute over 536 votes referred to polling in the Muslim part of Gorazde and due to uncertain registration of 260 Serbs from abroad and 1200 in Yugoslavia.

BANJALUKA - At the constituent session of the Serbian National Alliance, held in Banski Dvori, Mrs Biljana Plavsic, RS president, was elected Party president by unanimous vote of 436 Party members. In her addressing to the session, Mrs Plavsic repeated accusations against the Rs leadership of creating party, but not a legal state and that it was responsible for grey economy.

BEOGRAD - The special US envoy for the former Yugoslavia, Robert Galbard will arrive from Moscow to Belgrade tomorrow, says the US Belgrade Embassy. Galbard should visit Belgrade's Beli Dvor for talks with Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic.
