JULY 14 1997 EVENING

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic confirmed that she stays behind her decision on disbanding the RS Parliament. She pointed out that 'there cannot be a compromise on the principles of development of the state'. While stressing that she had quite well thought it over before she made the decision, Plavsic stated that everything is to be done according to the Constitution. The members of the Constitutional Court are respectable faculty professors, experienced ones, and 'I believe that they will not do anything that will make them to turn red', stated the president Plavsic, while commenting on what she expects from this supreme legal body of RS.

BANJALUKA - The president of Republika Srpska Biljana Plavsic confirmed at a press conference in Banjaluka that all of her endeavours are directed at 'the consistent compliance with the RS Constitution and the governmental institutions and, especially, the judiciary'. 'I undertake a risk as well, but let everything be done in accordance with the Constitution, let this all be dealt with by the institutions', stated the president Plavsic after the talks with the president from RS in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik. She stressed that 'regardless of how this crisis is to be overcome, we will somehow benefit from it'.

BIJELJINA - The chief-of-staff of the General Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), general Pero Colic, warned that if anything similar to this that happened in Prijedor occurs then it will be a sign that the Dayton Agreement and the cooperation between the Serbian Army and SFOR cannot exist any longer. General Colic talked with the SFOR ground operations deputy commander, general Kordy Simpson, on the relations between the VRS and SFOR following the disagreeable incidents in Prijedor. 'I told to general Simpson that we have our state leadership, our Constitution and laws, and that the occurrences in Prijedor have disturbed the relations between the SFOR, VRS and the RS people', stated general Colic.

BIJELJINA - The disagreeable happenings in Prijedor and in some other places in RS provoked the creating of negative tensions, nervousness and dissatisfaction among the RS population and the VRS members, additionally aggravating and deepening the distrust in the SFOR Mission, concludes a communique issued by the VRS General Staff, assessing that by such an act the SFOR exceeded the scope of its mandate and the authorisations provided in the Dayton Agreement.

SARAJEVO - The former police chief Simo Drljaca, who was killed by SFOR soldiers on last Thursday, was shot with four bullets, says the autopsy report. 'The autopsy was carried out by experts for the forensic medicine from Banjaluka, in cooperation with two SFOR's doctors', stated the SFOR spokesman, commander Chris Riley, maintaining that neither was Drljaca shot in the head nor in the back.

SARAJEVO - The SFOR spokesman John Blackly announced in Lukavica that the international forces are to continue exercising 'their unchanged mandate on an impartial way', with a strong belief that 'all the suspected war criminals should be in the Hague'. At a press conference in Lukavica, he reiterated the already known SFOR's stance on the occurrences in Prijedor and accused the media in RS of, as he said, 'false accusations at the expense of the international forces'. Blackly said that he is satisfied because the RS leadership appealed to the residents to remain calm, expressing his expectation that the 'civilian police will provide peace and the compliance with the laws', for the SFOR, as he said, 'will not tolerate violations of the general security and the safety in the country'.

NOVA TOPOLA - The Municipal Boards [branches] of the Serbian Democratic Party of Gradiska, Srbac, Prnjavor, Celinac, Laktasi i Kotor Varos are fully backing the attitudes of the Main Board of the SDS in regard to the current situation and the possibilities for overcoming the crisis. The meeting of the municipal boards, which was presided over by the SDS Main Board vice-president Borivoje Sendic, took place in Nova Topola. The meeting was also attended by the speaker of the RS Parliament, Dragan Kalinic, and the minister of foreign affairs, Aleksa Buha.
