JUNE 23 1997 DAY
NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA
BANAJLUKA - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic and vice-
president Dragoljub Mirjanic, received in Banjaluka Swiss ambassador to
Sarajevo, Christian Hausvirt, and newly-appointed Italian ambassador,
Michael Valensise, in separate visits. The Italian ambassador said his
country has a balanced approach to both RS and Federation of B-H, and added
that Italy respects the will of the Serbian people and encourages
implementation of Dayton accords.
BANJALUKA - In order to get familiar with local problems, the Italian
ambassador in Sarajevo, Michael Valensize, talked in Banjaluka with the
city mayor, Savko Cuk. Cuk reminded his guest of the international
statistics indicating at only 4 per cent of refugees returned, and added
that "it is very unlikely that the Serbs, who had expirienced evictions
from their homes for four times in this century, decide to return to their
ethnic areas which now remain within administrative borders of B-H
Federation".
SARAJEVO - The head of the RS Army (VRS) General Staff, general Pero Colic,
congratulated to VRS members the 28th June Vidovdan, the VRS Patron Saint.
ZVORNIK - Following adoption of the Quick start package, conditions are met
for the Donors Conference, even though new international pressures upon RS
are not to be excluded, believes the Serb deputy in the B-H Parliamentarian
Assembly Chamber of Representatives.
BANJALUKA - While stepping down form his duty, the former high
representative of the international community Carl Bildt, offended the
Serbs, equalling the biggest concentration camp - place of execution of 600,
000 Serbs - with Srebrenica, said the Srbian Party of the Krajina. The
offence was even heavier, for it was uttered by the official of the same
international community, which pledges for an equal treatment of all
parties in the Dayton B-H" stated the Party's president Predrag Lazarevic.
BANJALUKA - The president of the Social-Liberal Party of RS, Miodrag
Zivanovic, assessed that "the attitude of the Group 7 regarding the
implementation of the Dayton agreement was positive". As to Denver
conclusion, we are confident that there was a recognition in the Group that
the B-H peace agreement was slowly being implemented", stated Zivanovic and
added: "The strict implementation of the Agreement is only seen in RS,
which receives the most of criticisms from the international community for
non-compliance with the Agreement".
