VUKOVAR - Croatian president, Franjo Tudjman, visited Vukovar upon the
invitation of the Independent Democratic Serbian Party and Serb authorities
in the Srem-Baranja District. "Returning to Vukovar, we are drawing the
creation of the Croat state to a close - this state cannot be threatened
anymore by anyone", stated Tudjman at the Zagreb railway station, upon his
departure for Vukovar. During his train travel to Vukovar, Tudjman said
"This train represents a train of peace and reconciliation with all the
Serbs remaining in Croatia, who seek Croatian documents."
BEOGRAD - Out of three former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) officers
indicted by the Hague Tribunal, the Military Court in Belgrade is
responsible only for colonel Veselin Sljivarcanin, stated the president of
the Yugoslav Military Court, colonel Radomir Gojovic. He said the other two
indicted, demobilised Miroslav Radic and retired Mile Mrksic, are under
authority of a civil prosecutor. "The Yugoslav Constitution does not
provide for extradition of Yugoslav citizens to a foreign state. Inasmuch
the cooperation with the Tribunal includes delivering of Yugoslav
citizens, the Constitutional provision forbidding such extraditions must be
changed", explained Gojkovic.
MOSCOW - The former secretary of the Russian Security Council, Alexander
Lebed, believes that the current prime minister Victor Chernomydyn will be
replaced in autumn with his first deputy Boris Nemcov. "Chernomydyn will be
sacrificed and accused of a difficult situation in the country. All his men
were dismissed from the Government and his influence lessens", stated Lebed
in an exclusive interview for ITAR-TASS. The apathy rules Russia now, and
the time of bitterness which will come soon will culminate in autumn, added
Lebed.
SOFIA - A number of Muslims in Bulgaria was reduced for 30 per cent in this
century, and now they constitute eight per cent of total population. On the
other hand, 100 minarets and 35 new mosques were raised in Bulgaria in the
past seven years, and 90 per cent of existing mosques was reconstructed in
the Goce Delcev area. Donations for the projects came from the World
Islamic Bank, the Association of Turks from Turkey, International
Foundation "King Fahid Bin Abdul Aziz" and "Demior Baba and "Al Uakf
Islami" Foundation.
