NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

NEVESINJE - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic, visited Nevesinje where she learned of major problems existing in this municipality. The special emphasis was made on the status of a large number of refugees and difficulties in starting-out of production which are caused partially because of bad PTT linkages. Before her visit to Nevesinje, president Plavsic also visited hydroelectric plant and "Dekorativ" firm in Gacko.

SARAJEVO - The delegations of the RS and Federation of B-H Governments reached in Sarajevo a framework agreement on undertaking of activities in the fields of internal trade, industry, metallurgy, mining and transport. After talks held in the US Embassy in Sarajevo, RS prime minister, Gojko Klickovic stated that RS and Federal ministries must adjust their positions on the protocol on trade, which should be signed at the next meeting, planned for beginning of May. The Federal prime minister, Edhem Bicakcic stated that "in regard to the internal trade, the accent was made on the control of goods and budget income, which is acceptable neither for RS nor for the B-H Federation".

SARAJEVO - The RS minister for refugees and displaced persons Ljubisa Vladuic, talked in Pale with SFOR colonel Michael Beisley on possibilities of repatriation of refugees.

ZVORNIK - The military attaches of six European countries and the USA attended the training of the reconnaissance, artillery and armoured units of the 503rd Brigade of the RS Army (VRS), stationed in Zvornik, stated the unit commander, Dragan Obrenovic, adding that high-ranking officers from Slovenija, Turkey, France, Germany, Hungary and USA, noticed that the training was carried out according to high international standards.

BEOGRAD - The Association of Former POWs announced that during the Hague trial to members of the Muslim Army for crimes against the Serbs in the Celebici prisoner camp, judge Adolf Karibi Vajt had to defend a witness from attacks of the defence attorney. According to the Association, during the hearing of Milojka Antic, a witness who was raped several times in the camp, judge Karibi Vajt sharply warned defence attorney Thomas Moren.

VUKOVAR - According to first unofficial returns, candidates of the Independent Democratic Serbian Party (SDSS) won almost all votes in 11 municipalities, in Tenj, Mirkovci, Erdut, Jagodnjak, Sodolovci, Borovo, Markusica, Darda, Negoslavci, Stari Jankovci and Tripanj, in the Srem Baranja District. The voters turn-out was more than 80 per cent.
