NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - With the highest state honours and a religious rite, the recent vice-president of Republika Srpska (RS), Nikola Koljevic, was inter buried on the Orthodox cemetery 'St. Pantelije' in Banjaluka. The posthumous remains of his son, Djordje, and father-in-law, Luka Medic, which were exhumed from a cemetery in Sarajevo, were inter buried together with the body of Nikola Koljevic in the family tomb.

BANJALUKA - While paying the last tribute to the former Republika Srpska (RS) vice-president and head of the Authors Association of RS, Nikola Koljevic, the rector of University in Sarajevo, Vojislav Maksimovic, said that he has directed his life by all his human being at the realising of the noble Serbian national ideals and Orthodox aspirations. The Sarajevo University's rector reminded us that the latest and most active years of Koljevic's life were completely subordinated to the historic events in which he was a quite important participant and reliable witness.

SARAJEVO - RS police and IPTF are going to have joint patrols in the Serb village of Gajevi in which Muslims are trying to volatile move in, reports Reuters. Representatives of the RS and IPTF agreed on the strict application of the existing procedure for the return of refugees, which should be helped by the joint patrols.

SARAJEVO - The chief of the OSCE Mission in the Dayton B&H, Robert Frowick, announced that "the municipal elections in RS and the Croat/Muslim Federation will be held on July 12 and 13, this year", reports AFP.

SARAJEVO - A RS representative in the OSCE Provisional Electoral Commission, Slobodan Kovac, assessed that the municipal elections in RS and the Croat/Muslim Federation "will be more complex than the last year's one held on the higher level". While clarifying the new rules for the voter registration, which would prevent manipulations similar to the ones with the votes from bags, Kovac said that refugees who wish to vote at the municipal elections will have to register by themselves.

SARAJEVO - The co-chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Dayton B&H, Boro Bosic, believes that the main reason why the second co-chairman, Haris Silajdzic, refused to go to an official visit to Germany is because this week the Council is being presided over by Bosic. "Since I am going to be the chairman this week it is logical that I would, on some way, be the chief of a delegation, even though it is a collective body", explained Bosic in a statement for the Serb TV.

ROME - The president of the RS Parliament, Dragan Kalinic, is going to attend tomorrow's session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, at which the 'New perspectives for democracy in the Dayton B&H" will be discussed. The Italian agency ANSA reports that tomorrow's meeting will be also attended by representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Dayton B&H.

VIENNA - One of the leaders of the Serbian Zajedno [Together] coalition, head of the Democratic Party (DS), Zoran Djindjic, came out in Vienna for the prolonging of the arbitration process on the inter-entity boundary line near the town of Brcko for 'at least a year', for the situation is not yet mature for the making of a final decision", reports DPA. Reminding us that a decision should be made by February 15, DPA warns that the final resolution could be a reason for one or another side to start new war.

BELGRADE - The first deputy Russian foreign minister, Igor Ivanov, who is mediating in the resolving of the crisis between the Serbian authorities and opposition, refused to give any statement following an hour-long talks with the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic held in Belgrade. Yesterday, Ivanov stated that Russia supports the OSCE's report which confirmed the opposition's victory in 14 cities at the last years's November 17 elections.

BELGRADE - Representatives of the ruling parties in Serbia and Montenegro - the SPS and Democratic Party of Socialists - agreed to yesterday in Belgrade that Slobodan Milosevic runs as a presidential candidate at the next elections in FR of Yugoslavia, report agencies. The present FR Yugoslavian president, Zoran Lilic's mandate expires in May, 1997.

ZAGREB - The Serbian democratic forum of Croatia accused the Croatian authorities of worsening of the status of the Serbs in this state and of preventing of the return of Serbs who were expelled after the 1995 occupation of the Republic of the Srpska Krajina. As the secretary-general of this forum on the defense of the rights of Serbs in Croatia, Veljko Dzakula, said "not only that their position has not been improved, but was also worsened".
