At the beginning of January, Holland took on a one-year mandate as the chairman in the EU and in 1997 is going to lead the observing activities in the former Yugoslavia. Pointing out that he gave the assurances to president Krajisnik for objectivity and neutrality of the EU observers, Mr. Everts assessed the meeting as open and successful.SARAJEVO - The president in the Presidency of the Dayton B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, and the president of the RS National Assembly, Dragan Kalinic, talked in Pale with the ICRC president, Cornelio Sommaruga, about the problem of missing persons and the future activities of this humanitarian organisation in RS. "After we had discussed the previous and the current activities of the ICRC, we concluded that it is necessary to intensify our work in RS and the entire Dayton B&H and to help the needy as soon as possible", stated Sommaruga after the meeting. Only with the active participation of the authorities of RS and the Federation of B&H and all the national societies, the ICRC will be able to resolve one of the most difficult issues - the problem of missing persons, pointed out Sommaruga. SARAJEVO - The presidents of the ICRC and RS CK, Cornelio Sommaruga and Ljiljana Zelen-Karadzic, respectively, talked in Pale about the future cooperation between the two humanitarian organisations and the difficulties being faced during their work. Mrs. Karadzic thanked the ICRC representatives for the humanitarian aid and winter clothes which were offered to RS by the ICRC in the last year and pointed out that it is necessary to activate the national Red Cross organisations so that the specific needs of RS would be realised. SARAJEVO - The RS vice-president for internal affairs, Ostoja Kremenovic, talked in Pale with a delegation of the World Bank about the mine clearing of the certain parts of RS. We reached an agreement on the issues relating to the preparations and activation of enterprises in RS for carrying out of the mine clearing action. SARAJEVO - The RS minister for transportation and communications, Nedeljko Laic, expressed his expectations that before May 1997 the World Bank will provide the first amount of $ 20,000,000,000 for the development of transportation in RS. After the meeting held in Pale with the World Bank's director for transportation and energy for the Central Europe, Hans Apikz, minister Laic said that the above means will be used for the repairing of the Novi Grad-Trebinje road which links all the parts of RS. SARAJEVO - About 12,000,000,000 ECU will be provided in 1997 for the repair of roads and enterprises that are working on the reconstruction of a line of communications in RS, confirmed the RS minister of transportation and communications, Nedeljko Laic, after the meeting held in Pale with the chief of the EU Administration, Michel Gauntier. According to Laic, the priority will be given to the projects of the Lukavica-Pale and Modrica- Bijeljina roads. SARAJEVO - The RS assistant minister for judiciary, Dragan Podinic, was assured by SFOR representatives that they will undertake all of the obligations in regard to the damage done by IFOR forces during their action of destroying of arms in the village of Margetici, near Sokolac. After the talks with the chief of SFOR's commission on the suits for compensation, lieutenant colonel, Michael Wells, Podinic confirmed that it was agreed that the solving of the suits for the damage compensation should be urged. ROME - The work of the International Arbitration Commission on the inter- entity boundary line in the area of Brcko was completed by a several-hour- long testimony of the RS foreign minister and chief of the RS delegation, Aleksa Buha. After two hours of speaking, as SRNA learns from an Italian official, Buha was exposed to a cross-examination by the lawyers of the Croatian/Muslim Federation, who are Americans. As this Italian politician says, by the presenting of the convincing arguments Buha succeeded in denying the wicked facts which were presented to the presiding arbitrator, Robert B. Owen by the Croatian/Muslim witnesses and, even the US attorneys were touched and shaken by his human answers. BRCKO - The president of the Executive Board of the Municipal Assembly of Brcko, Radoslav Bogicevic, assessed the recent settling of five Muslim families in the settlement of Brod as a political, and not a sincere human act. Bogicevic stressed that the return of Muslims to Brcko will not have the legal status all until the Muslims obtain the identification cards and passports of RS. "In the event that they decide to live in RS they have to respect the Constitution, symbols and laws of RS and thus they will acquire all the citizens' rights equal for the peoples of all nations and religions in RS", pointed out Bogicevic. BELGRADE - A military/political commentator, Radovan Radinovic, stated in Belgrade that RS must not at any expense allow to lose the city of Brcko. As he believes, "being in the composition of RS Brcko provides the territorial integrity of RS, in other words the physical linkage between its western and eastern parts. Without this city the RS will not exist either". BANJALUKA - At a press conference held in Banjaluka, the head of the People's Party (NS) of RS, Radoslav Brdjanin, restated the Party's attitude that the Serbian city of Brcko must at any price remain in RS. "NS RS is opposing that the port in Brcko be placed under the jurisdiction of the Presidency of the Dayton B&H, for in that case a road running to the port should have to be given to the Muslims over the RS territory, which would mean a formal and real cutting of RS, explained Brdjanin. BANJALUKA - The Alliance for Peace and Progress reiterated its position that the provisions of the Dayton agreement relating to the arbitration over the inter-entity boundary line in the area of Brcko are a legal but not a political issue. "The line of separation is the disputable subject of the arbitration exclusively, and not the city of Brcko", says this Block in an announcement which was made available to journalists at a news conference in Banjaluka. PRISTINA - The rector of the University in Pristina, Radivoje Papovic is out of a danger following an assassination which was carried out against him by Albanian secessionists, stated the head of the Pristina Hospital surgery clinic, Dr. Stojan Sekulic. According to him, rector Papovic and his driver, Nikola Lalic, who is also out of critical condition, have got serious body injuries, burns and bruises. DOBOJ - SFOR's Headquarters in Doboj confirmed that on the first day of Orthodox New Year, Zoran Loncar was killed in the community of Citluci, near Teslic.
