NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA
BANJALUKA - The director of the main office of the Serbian Democratic Party
of Serb Lands (SDS SZ), Vlado Vrkes, rejected as unfounded the chief of the
OSCE mission, Robert Frowick's claims that freedom of expressing is
endangered in Republika Srpska (RS). Vrkes believes that it would have been
better if Frowick, instead of stating such unfounded assessments, stayed
in Sarajevo by the conclusion of a session of the Consultative
Council of political parties and heard out the authentic opinions of
representatives of the various political parties, and thus got acquainted
with the state of affairs. "As far as an agreement on the forthcoming
municipal elections is concerned, the SDS accepted the Dayton Agreement and
will endeavour to consistently implement it, but under the condition that
the other parties in the Dayton B&H do the same", said Buha.
HAMBURG - German defense minister Volker Ruehe, made a decision to, in the
event a new war breaks out, dispatch 350 German specialists to the Dayton B-
H with the task to rescue 3,300 Bundeswehr members out of dangerous
situations. As Frankfurter Rundschau writes, these "reserve forces", which
are equipped with heavy combat "Leopard I" tanks, will be in a state of
alert on March, 1997.
ZURICH - Serbs from Switzerland sent a letter of support to demonstrators
in Serbia and appealed on the Serbian authorities to respect the will
freely expressed by the people, and to realise that it is impossible to
stop the upcoming wave of democracy. "We ask for the ruling regime in
Serbia to stop its arrogant and official behaviour and to restrain from the
further use of force. For, the Serbian people are fed up with blood and the
suffering", this was said at a meeting of support to demonstrators in
Serbia, which was held in front of the Palace of Justice in Geneva.
DOBOJ - By symbolically cutting of a brand, IFOR Finland Engineering
Battalion representatives gave the Municipality of Doboj the use of a
repaired secondary school. Along with repairing works, amounting to more
than DEM 200,000, Finland engineers gave several computers and metal
processing machines to the secondary school for the purpose of the
practical training of pupils.
