[02] PROGRAMS READY FOR ECONOMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN POLAND AND YUGOSLAVIA

President of the Chamber of Economy of Yugoslavia Prof. Dr. Mihailo Milojevic and the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, H.E. Slavimir Dabrova, stated yesterday during their talks that there is a great business interest and legal grounds for cooperation between the two economies. Last year agreements were concluded on mutual protection and promotion of investments, on trade and economic cooperation and the agreement on avoiding double taxation. Milojevic pointed out that the two countries, before sanctions, had an annual economic exchange in the value of 500 million US dollars, that the communication between partners was not stopped even at the time of sanctions and that the chances for cooperation are now even better, especially since both countries are turned towards the market economy.

[03] STRUGGLE FOR SURVIVAL OF SERBS IN CROATIA

After the meeting yesterday between President Tudjman and the transitional administrator of the UNTAES, General Jacques Klein in Zagreb, it was reported that the Croat state leadership in a few days will announce the date for holding of the county and local elections, and immediately after that the UNTAES administration will announce the date for holding of the elections in this region. At these elections there will be a joint candidacy by both of the Serbian political parties from Zagreb - the Serbian National Party (presided by Milan Djukic) and the Serbian Independent Party (presided by Dr. Milorad Pupovac). Both parties are striving for the remain and return of as many Serbs as possible to their homes in Croatia and for their real equality and a dignified life. In his statement for "Vjesnik" daily, Dr. Pupovac who is recently as well as his colleague Djukic often visiting the locations in the UNTAES region, is mentioning that for Serbs at this moment "the most important thing is to take part at the elections", because, as he explains, "it is important to obtain the structure of power which will be in the function of what is to follow: real integration of people". Regarding the role of media in Croatia, Pupovac said that recently many TV programs are no longer informative but propaganda ones, because someone obviously wishes to increase the confusion and even de-stabilize the process of reintegration.

[04] ACCUSATIONS BECAUSE OF 'RELIGIOUS SEAL'

Sarajevo physician Safet Cibo from the Orthopedic Hospital "Kosevo" came up with an original method of placing a "religious seal" on his patients, Sarajevo children. Without the permission of parents, with the prescribed surgical cut, he was circumcising the male population of the Sarajevo children. Forcible circumcision, it seems, lasted for quite some time, until the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Bosnia-Herzegovina raised its voice. President of the Committee Srdjan Dizdarevic, stated for the Sarajevo media: "I do not know how many cases are in question. But I do know that children would leave the hospital circumcised, and that parents did not know anything about it beforehand and neither were asking for it". Dr. Cibo transferred the accusations on the political level claiming that this is an attack on a religious ceremony and that the Helsinki Committee is working, as he says, "for one party which wishes to do away with Muslims, and especially those who were fighting for Bosnia-Herzegovina". Helsinki Committee is announcing that it will conduct the case to its conclusion, and that the evidence will be supported by new facts.

[05] SERBIAN POLICEMEN ARE ENTERING ALSO DUGI DIO VILLAGE

Members of the Center for Public Safety of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Republic of Srpska, according to the agreement with the representatives of the international forces, will establish tomorrow the rule of the Republic of Srpska in the village of Dugi Dio near Zvornik, which the Muslims have occupied several months ago, ignoring the fact that according to the Dayton Accords it belongs to Serbs. Since the Serbian policemen started doing their job over the last few days in the villages of Jusici and Mahala, in which also the Muslims have entered forcibly, it is expected that a stop will be finally placed on several months of problems caused by Muslims on the borders between the Republic of Srpska and the Muslim-Croat Federation near Zvornik. The first identity cards of the Republic of Srpska will be issued in a few days for those Muslims who have expressed their wish to live in Mahala. "For the moment 25 Muslims accepted to live in and respect the authorities and laws of the Republic of Srpska. This number is much smaller than the one which was present before the entry of our police force in this village. We hope that the 'guests' of Mahala not of good will have understood that they can no longer remain as armed occupiers, but as peaceful citizens to whom we guarantee safety just as we do to all the other inhabitants of the Republic of Srpska", said Colonel Dragomir Vasic, chief of the Center for Public Safety. Next week the identity cards will be given also to those Muslims who have decided to remain in Jusici, and then to their compatriots in the village of Dugi Dio.

[06] ARMED CLASHES BETWEEN MUSLIMS AND CROATS IN MOSTAR

The UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko announced yesterday that one person was killed and several wounded in the clashes between Muslims and Croats in Mostar. According to the claims of the Sarajevo media, the clashes started when five thousand Muslims, on the occasion of the Bayram feast, started on a visit to the Muslim cemetery which is located in the Croat part of the town. According to the media reports, the Muslim convoy was attacked by the Croat police and a group of citizens with batons in their hands. According to the reports of the local Mostar media, after these clashes and the blood- bath, situation is very tense. Groups of citizens from both parts of Mostar are gathering at the separation line, which is causing anxiety and fears that new incidents might occur. Minister of Interior Affairs of Neretva- Herzegovina county, Valentin Dzoric announced that in Mostar a curfew was introduced. Last night yet another detonation of the tromblone mine was registered in the northern part of the city which is under the Croat control, and was fired from the Muslim positions. The co-chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia-Herzegovina Haris Silajdzic, who is now in Mostar, stated for the Muslim media that the situation in the city is still very critical. He said that the Croat authorities in western Mostar are evicting Muslims from houses and apartments and are collecting them in one place so that they may serve as a live shield.
