[01] MILOSEVIC: GREAT IMPORTANCE OF ELECTIONS FOR THE FUTURE
President of Serbia Slobodan Milosevic stated yesterday that the elections
are having great importance for the future of the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia.
While addressing the press after voting in Belgrade, President state the
following for the journalists:
"I am sure that the elections are also having great importance for the
stability in the entire region. Our citizens know this very well, and I am
convinced that they will respond in large numbers and go to the polls."

[02] 61 PERCENT OF VOTERS APPEARED AT THE POLLING STATIONS
President of the Federal Electoral Commission Rajko Nisavic stated last
night after 22:00 hours, that the elections have taken place in a dignified
manner, in peace and order. At the regular federal elections, according to as
yet unofficial and incomplete information of the Commission, 61 percent of
voters appeared at the polling stations, from some 7.6 million eligible voters.
They are electing 138 deputies for the Chamber of Citizens, in accordance with
the rules of proportionate electoral system and according to the system of one
deputy elected by 65,000 citizens. The elections for the local authorities are
being held according to the rules of the majoritarian electoral system.
Some 11,000 electoral committees last night, after the closing of the
polling stations, started counting the votes, and according to the Law on
Election of Federal Deputies, the final results should be announced on Thursday.
Counting of votes is also taking place for the Parliament of Montenegro, as well
as for the local authorities in both of the republics.

[03] FOREIGN OBSERVERS AT THE YUGOSLAV ELECTIONS
President of the Federal Electoral Commission Rajko Nisavic received on
Saturday the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for
Security and Cooperation in Europe (O.S.C.E.) headed by Eshil Erlandson, the
Swedish parliamentarian. Nisavic informed the guests of our electoral system,
competencies of the Federal Electoral Commission and the pre-electoral
activities so far. All the preparations for the elections in the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia have been successfully completed, so that the elections
may take place properly and in accordance with the law, said Nisavic.

[04] A CONVINCING LEAD OF THE LEFT
The spokesman of the Socialist Party of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, stated late
last night that according to the unofficial results of the federal elections,
the unique list of the SPS-JUL-ND-Slobodan Milosevic (Socialist Party of Serbia
- Yugoslav United Left - New Democracy - Slobodan Milosevic) is having a
convincing lead. He also said that from slightly below 870,000 of the so far
counted votes at the yesterday's elections for the Federal Parliament, over
455,000 votes were given to the unique list of the leftist forces, followed by
the Coalition "Zajedno" ("Together") with 182,000 votes and the Serbian Radical
Party with 142,000 votes.

[05] DPS ANNOUNCES ELECTORAL VICTORY
Electoral headquarters of the Democratic Party of Socialist (DPS)
officially, two hours after midnight, announced its victory at the third
multi-party elections in Montenegro, which was celebrated by an extensive fire
works from the headquarter's building of the Democratic Party of Socialists in
Podgorica.
According to as yet incomplete data from the polling stations throughout
the Republic, the ruling party is convincingly leading in the 11 of the total of
14 electoral units for the deputies to the Parliament of Montenegro.

[06] THE LEFTIST COALITION IS WINNING
In the first comments on the Yugoslav elections, foreign media are
forecasting an assured victory of the united left. News agencies, like the
France-Press, are pointing out that Socialists are regarded as favorites "both
in Serbia and in Montenegro". British Reuters news agency is reporting the
prognostic of the political analysts that President Slobodan Milosevic's
"coalition will triumph over the opposition parties". German DPA agency is also
forecasting that "the greatest chances for victory is having the block of the
united left headed by Slobodan Milosevic". The identical forecasts were also
reported in many newspapers in the world.

[07] PROTOCOL ADOPTED ON COOPERATION BETWEEN THE NEWS AGENCIES OF THE BALKANS
By adopting the protocol on further cooperation, in Novi Sad on Sunday a
two-day meeting of the high officials of the nine news agencies of all the
Balkan countries was adjourned, gathered in the association ABNA. In this
document is was stated that the gathering was very successful because, most of
all, a concrete agreement was reached on the next steps to be taken towards
realization of the project "Diavlos" ("Corridor" in Greek), which is foreseeing
the creation of a single telecommunication and information system of the Balkans
and creation of the data bank of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies
(ABNA) with the seat in Thessaloniki.

[08] SERBIAN CONSTRUCTION EXPERTS IN ISRAEL
Delegation of the Ministry of Civil Engineering of Serbia, headed by the
Vice President of the City Assembly of Belgrade (deputy mayor of Belgrade)
Slobodan Drobnjakovic, arrived last night on a several-day visit to Israel and
the Palestinian autonomous regions. It is scheduled for the delegation to meet
with the representatives of the Palestinian authorities in the Gaza Strip and on
the West Bank, to discuss possibilities for the participation of the Yugoslav
companies in the reconstruction of these areas. The delegation will also have
talks with the representatives of the Chamber of Economy of Israel and
businessmen of this country on the future cooperation.

[09] TRACTORS FOR CHINESE
In the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in Beijing, on
Saturday, an agreement was signed on the delivery to China of one thousand
tractors manufactured by the IMT company of Belgrade, in the value of 22 million
US dollars. This contract is the realization of the agreement concluded between
the Chinese oil company CHINEHEM and the Belgrade NIS Jugopetrol on the barter
arrangement for the deliveries of the Chinese oil in exchange for the Yugoslav
goods.
