Both sides agreed that the barter arrangement is off to a good start and that the first concrete results are visible. (Vecernje Novosti, July 25, 1996) [05] THE BARRIER OF DIFFIDENCE HAS BEEN REMOVEDThe visit of the Bosnian state delegation to Belgrade and the talks between President Milosevic and the Bosnian Vice-President Eyup Ganic, have been judged in Brussels as an important step in the implementation of the Dayton Agreement and a contribution to the policy of neighborly relations and cooperation defined by the European integration strategy for this part of the continent. (Politika Ekspres, July 25, 1996)[06] OLYMPIC GOLD FOR YUGOSLAVIAYugoslavia has joined the countries that secured the Atlanata gold. The merrit goes to 22-years-old Aleksandra Ivosev from Novi Sad. On the first day of the Olympics Miss Ivosev already won the Bronze Medal in the air-rifle cattegory. (Borba, 25.07.1996.) [07] THE EU MIGHT WITHDRAW FROM MOSTARThe European Union might withdraw from Mostar, since it is unable to carry out its task due to the Croatian boycott of the results of local elections - AFP reports quoting a statement by EU representatives in Mostar."We have informed the Irish EU chairmanship about the present situation and they should consult the other countries to decide whether we are to go or to stay", said for AFP the EU spokesperson in Mostar - Mr. Dragan Gasic, adding that "the Croatian side refuses any form of agreement." (TANJUG, July 25, 1996) [08] HIGH PRICE OF SUCCESS"Croatia has achieved its vital interests, though by paying a high price both politically and economically. I suggest that in future absolute priority be given to cooperation. I mostly have in mind the consent for the return of the Serbs, the settlement of the problem in Eastern Slavonija, the cooperation with the Hague Tribunal and with the Moslems in the Bosnian Federation" said in an interview for the "Globus" weekly the German Ambassador to Croatia Horst Weisel at the end of his mandate in Zagreb.Ambassador Weisel stressed that he is surprised by the crimes committed against the Serbs last August and added: "These crimes - which I simply can not understand why they happened and which I absolutely did not expect - greatly damaged Croatia. Because of them, Croatia has been de facto formally punished. Because of the events in Krajina, its admission to the FARE program has been suspended, making it loose important loans, and the agreement with EU on cooperation and trade has also been suspended." (Politika, July 25, 1996) [09] AVOIDING A KRAJINA REPRISEIn an interview for "Politika", professor Zarko Puhovski of the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy and a renown anti-war activist, remarked: "I believe that the only reasonable and the best possible solution - just as we have told general Klein - is to adhere to the Erdut Agreement and extend the UNTAES mandate for another year, allowing the UN forces to remain as long as possible during the reintegration of the area into Croatia, i.e. in parallel with the Croatian state forces - so that they might control them. This is the only guarantee against a reprise of unpleasant things - and unpleasant is a weak term - which occurred last year. We are talking about concrete, living persons who had some very bad experiences and can expect new ones unless an effective protection is arranged for them. Should the worse happen - and the UNTAES forces leave to be replaced by Croatian institutions, including the Croatian forces, this would have dire effects similar to those last year and all would be reduced to a reintegration of territories and not a reintegration of the population." (Politika, July 25, 1996)[10] CHARGES AGAINST IZETBEGOVIC, GANIC AND TUDJMAN HAVE BEEN FILEDMr. Marko Arsovic - Minister of Justice of the Republic of Srpska stated yesterday at the press conference held in Pale that within a few days he shall go to the Hague where he will meet with International Tribunal officials to discuss the problems concerning the problems with the criminal charges filed and evidence against Alija Izetbegovic. He also added that charges have been also been presented against Eyup Ganic and Franjo Tudjman.Mr. Arsovic did not exclude the possibility that at the Hague he might discuss the indictment against Radovan Kradzic.
