  • [01] Meeting of the defense ministers of South Eastern European countries

    Conclusion in Bucharest of the defense ministers of South Eastern European countries conference which was attended by US Secretary of Defense William Cohen. Mr. Cohen addressed the conference and said that by the stand adopted during the Kosovo conflict Romania demonstrated it could contribute to ensuring peace and stability on the continent. He added the United States wished to work together with Romania and that NATO decided to proceed to a new assesment of the candidates in 2002. William Cohen also said that Romania still had more to do on the path of integration, mentioning the market economy, civilian control of the army and further proofs that Romania was a supplier of security. Regional cooperation is a way to ensure stability in the area and a useful exercise in the process of adherance training said in his spech President Emil Constantinescu. Mr. Constantinescu added that integration into European and Euro - Atlantic structures was an absolute must of Romania and that our country offered solid political and economic guarantes for integration, says RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.     [02] Festive session of the Romanian Parliament on the occasion of the National Holiday of the country

    The two Chambers of the Romanian Parliament were gathered in solemn session on Tuesday on the occasion of the national holiday of Romania, a sssion which was broadcast live by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. Representatives of the ruling coalition made an appeal to national solidarity for the achievement of the fundamental goals of the Romanian state. A representative of the Magyar Democratic Union of Romania said that documents signed at Alba Iulia were not observed as Magyars of Romania could not frely use their own mother tongue in all circumstances. In their turn parliamentarians of the opposition said one of the main problems of Romanian society today is represented by the relation which has been created between the citizen and the state.     [03] The Senate finalized passing by articles of the bill on public pension system

    The Senate finalized on Tuesday the adoption article by article of the bill regarding public pension system as well as other rights of social ensurance system while the final vote will be cast next week. In 13 year span of time pension age is increased from 57 to 60 for women and from 62 to 65 for men. Th new bill is also aimed at rebalancing pensions and early retirement in the case of the persons that have enough funds in the ensurance system says RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR
