[01] President Emil Constantinescu has been visiting TimisoaraDuring his last day of the visit to the town of Timisoara the President of Romania laid a wreath of flowers at the Memorial of the Heroes of the Revolution of that town, kept a moment of silence in memory of the heroes that were murdered during the Revolution of December 1989. Then the President visited the Memorial of the Revolution and had a talk with the members of the TIMISOARA Association.[02] The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies resume debates on Monday, September Fouras part of the last session of the present legislature.With the Senate, acording to the Chairman of the Romanian Senate priority is held by the passing of the nationalized dwellings and that for the privatization of the State Owned Farms. In as far as the debates of the Chamber are concerned Chairman Ion Diaconescu said that by the end of the session the bill on the reform of the judicial system of Romanian should be passed.[03] Statement of vice -president of the Social Democracy Party of Romania Adrian NastaseThe first vice-president of the Social Democracy Party of Romania, Adrian Nastase estimated that neither of the four main countercandidates of Ion Iliescu in the presidential race, namely Theodor Stolojan, Mugur Isarescu, Teodor Melescanu or Petre Roman, would reach the second round alongside the President of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania. Mr. Nastase is of the opinion that the resembling image of the four and the fact that each is attacking the others could lead to their loosing elections in the first ballot. Hence chances remain with the Greater Romania Party leader - PRM - Corneliu Vadim Tudor - who has been shaping his campaign and will continue to do likewise according to the negative attitude of those that voice their discontent with the developments in Romania in the last four years. On the other hand, if any of the first four could pass the first ballot, these are Theodor Stolojan or Mugur Isarescu who might be the adversaries of Ion Iliescu in the second ballot.[04] Press conference of the vice-president of the Democratic Party, Radu BerceanuThe President of the Democratic Party, Petre Roman, has very big chances to reach the second ballot of the presidential elections and be a really tough competitor for Ion Iliescu, any other of the candidates that reach this stage will not be able to do anything else but facilitate victory for the leader of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - said in a press conference the vice-president of the Democratic Party - PD - Radu Berceanu who is also campaign chief of the Democratic Party for both parliamentary and presidential elections. The campaign of the Romanian Democratic Party will be strictly tailored to meet the expectations of the people and will not be focused on the politicians, underlined Mr. Berceanu among other things, specifiying among other things that a novel element will be the priority lists drawn according to the uninominal vote. There are three principles that are at the basis of this campaign: domestic competition, renewal which implies new names of potential parliamentarians and the unity of all positive forces of the party, also said the vicepresident of the Democratic Party quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.[05] Alianta Nationala - National Alliance - has its own candidate for the office of Romanian PresidentThe National Alliance was created last Sunday in Bucharest by the merging of the National Unity Party of Romanians with the Romanian National Party, the latter party being led by Marian Munteanu who used to be leader of the higher education students during the anticommunist events of Piata Universitatii that climaxed with the coming of the miners to Bucharest on 14 and 15 June 1990.[06] INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS[07] Romania is the host of the multinatonal air exercise COOPERATIVE KEYStarting tomorrow the air base MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU is the theater of the unfolding of COOPERATIVE KEY multinational air exercise that involves 14 nations of which 6 are NATO members and 8 are participating in the PARTNERSHIP FOR PEACE. This is the second multinational exercise which Romania is hosting, the first country that asked to be involved in the actions as part of the PARTNERSHIP FOR PEACE, informs a press communique of the Ministry of National Defense of this country.[08] Days of Jewish CultureAt the initiative of the European Council, of the World Organization B'Nai B'rith, the Federation of the Jewish communities of Romania together with the World Organization has organized THE EUROPEAN DAYS OF JEWISH CULTURE. It is for the first time that this kind of manifestation is held in this country. It was launched 2 years ago in Alsace and this year the event has been celebrated in 16 countries during the same interval. The European Day of Jewish patrimony included the concert of the National Radio Symphony Orchestra which was broadcast live by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, RADIO ROMANIA CULTURAL and RADIO ROMANIA MUZICAL. On the same occasion in the lobby of the concert hall of THE ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION an exhibition was organized on the subject JEWISH BOOKS, THEATER AND JOURNALISM IN ROMANIA. The events in Romania are held under the high patronage of the President of our country Emil Constantinescu.[09] On Monday, 4 September, consultations take place among Romania, the Russian Federation and the Republic of MoldovaConsultations among these three states are taking place in Bucharest being focused on the activity of the Organization of Economic Cooperation of the Black Sea and its relations with other international organizations and institutions. At the proposal of Romania the consultations include issues related to the expansion of the organization, the restructure and increase of the efficiency of the Permanent International Secretariat, the reactivation and dynamization of the working groups in various fields of activity as well as other steps and initiatives for contacts and development of dialog with the European Union, the United Nations and other international organizations.[10] The Bulgarian defense minister denies the story according to which the USA would open a CIA bureau in Bucharest, RomaniaBulgarian minister of defense Boiko Noiev denies the story according to which the U S A would open C I A bureaus in the countries which are neighbours to Yugoslavia. Recently the TANIUG news agency announced that U S A was opening such bureaus in Budapest, Sofia, Bucharest and Tirana with a view to tighten the circle around Yugoslavia. Also according to TANIUG news agency working in the respective bureaus would be 120 experts in intelligence and psychological warfare. The rumours regarding the recent steps taken by the United States to speed up this kind of activities in the Balkans started spreading after the visit of the C I A Director to Sofia and Bucharest three weeks ago, transmits RADIO KIEV.[11] The commemorative medal 150 YEARS SINCE THE BIRTH OF POET EMINESCUIn the town of Crasna, region of Cernauti, the Ukraine, the commemorative medal 150 YEARS SINCE THE BIRTH OF POET EMINESCU was awarded to mayor of the town Victor Padure on behalf of the president of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, for the mayor's outstanding contribution to the dissemination of the work of the Romanian national poet Mihai Eminescu.The town of Crasna has a population of about ten thousand Romanian ethnics and it is there that the Government of Romania supports the building of a public school with 22 classes. The Ministry of Culture will soon send all books to the library of the school and to the MIHAI EMINESCU Muzeum which is the only such muzeum in the region of Cernauti. [12] Three centuries since the Union of the Romanian Eastern Catholic church with the Roman Catholic ChurchFestivities occasioned by this three hundred year anniversary were held at Blaj both at the Eastern Catholic cathedral and on Campia Libertatii which has a particular significance for all Romanians. All the Eastern Catholic higher ranking men of the cloth have been participating alongside the Papal Nuncio to Romania, Archbishop Jean Claude Perisset. RADIO VATICANA recalls that Pope John Paul II sent a letter on the occasion of the anniversary which was released on 20 July.[13] CALENDARThe two chambers of the Parliament of Romania are resuming activity today; the Senate starts work at 15:00 and the Chamber of Deputies at 14:00.Romanian foreign minister Petre Roman meets in Paris, France the minister for European affairs, Pierre Moscovici. The talks are focused on Romania's adeherence to the European Union and on bilateral relations.
