[02] Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu may run for the office of President of
Romania
Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu has talked to a number of attorneys at law of
Romania and the conclusion was that he may run for the supreme office in
this country as this does not countervene any law of Romania. Spokesperson
of the Cabinet Gabriela Vranceanu said the Prime Minister will make known
the way he manages his electoral campaing when it is started.
[03] The Government is looking for sources of financing the increase of
pensions in this country
Besides looking for foreign loans to increase pensions the Cabinet is also

[04] The leaders of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - estimate
that the party has a good image outside the borders of the country
First vicepresident of PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - Adrian
Nastase said on Tuesday 22 August at the weekly press conference of the
party that PDSR has a good image outside the borders of Romania; for
instance during his recent visits to the United Kingdom, Canada and the
United States he assesed the image of his party outside Romania. The talks
he had did not deal with criticism of the encumbent power but with the
solutions which PDSR has for the recovery of the country. In as far as the
situation of the small vending places of Bucharest is concerned which were
built without the proper authorization, one of the mayors of the city said
that PDSR was not responsible of that as the buillding and false
authorization obtaining processes were due to the CDR - PD rule in the last
four years, between 1996 - 2000. Social Democracy Party of Romania is of
the opinion that the actions which the present mayor of Bucharest is
responsible of are nothing else but electoral propaganda. In the last week
the General Mayor of the city has ordered the tearing down of all vending
amenities which are placed on sidewalks and on public property.

Toporcev as well as with representatives of the Aromanian population of
Bulgaria. The talks were focussed on developing relations of commercial
