  • [01] President of Romania visits the areas seriously affected by floods

    The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, visited on Tuesday the areas which were most seriously affected by floods in counties Timis, Arad and Caras Severin. It is the people - said the President of Romania - that have to be helped in the first place and it is the people that suffer that must be in the focus of attention of central and local authority. President Constantinescu particularly appreciated the actions of the Romanian army, of the Gendarmerie and of the representatives of the local authority for helping the affected population. The President said that starting today the fund SOLIDARITATEA is unblocked, the fund being worth six thousand million lei, money going first to the families most affected by the recent floods. RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that reports this story also adds that at the airport of Timisoara the President of Romania met with the prefects of counties Arad, Timis and Caras- Severin to get further details about the situation.     [02] Aids from the Presidency of Romania

    The President said that the Presidency gives aid to the people affected by the recent floods of Romania up to the value of six thousand million lei from the SOLIDARITATEA fund resulted from the state lottery of the same name which was initiated by the President of Romania. Reports from the Presidency announce that already sent to the most affected people of counties Arad and Hunedoara was a sum total of two thousand million lei which partly covers losses suffered in the wake of the January and February high floods, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [03] Management of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION meets with representatives of political parties of Romania with a view to the electoral campaigns

    Mr. Andrei Dimitriu, President - Director General of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION met on Tuesday, alongside other managers of RADIO ROMANIA, with the representatives of the political parties of this country to further talks for the best unfolding of the electoral campaigns for the local and parliamentary elections in Romania this year. Also attending were representatives of the National Broadcasting Council headed by the President of the Council Mircea Moldovan. The talks which unfolded were focused on the decision of the Standing Bureaus of both Chambers of the Romanian Parliament to give each week broadcasting time of a length equal to four minutes to each party represented in the Parliament of Romania. The President of the National Broadcasting Council then announced the offer of the Council in point of broadcasting time to the national radio and television corporations of Romania for the electoral campaigns this year. During the same meeting approved was the working status of the Consultative Council of Assessment and Analysis whose chairman is Vartan Arachelian. Next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 19 April, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [04] A first step towards the voting of the bill on the restitution of dwellings and buildings that were confiscated during the communist regime

    The legal matters committee and the local public administration committee of the Senate have given their joint final vote in favor of the draft bill for the restitution of the dwellings and buildings nationalized during the communist regime. A number of senators that took the floor yesterday said the bill is very far from being perfect but it is the beginning of the process, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [05] Talks on the restructure of government agencies

    Representatives of the parties members of the ruling coalition met at the Victoria Palace to discuss the restructure of government agencies which will be cut down by eight. Their number is now of 26. Vicepresident of UDMR - Union of Democratic Magyars of Romania - Borbely Laszlo said that four agencies merge into one which is the National Agency for Development while the others will be subordinated to Ministers becoming departments or sections of the respective ministries, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. Today the representatives of the parties members of the ruling coalition meet again to finalize the Cabinet decisions which are to be passed on Thursday or next week at the latest, at the weekly sessions of the Government of Romania. RADOR

    [06] PDSR - Party of Social Democracy of Romania - will not vote for the State Budget Bill or for that of Social Insurance

    PDSR is of the opinion that the draft budget in its present form does not ensure the premises of economic relaunching or the conditions necessary to the development of the labour market. PDSR MP Florin Georgescu said his party will not vote for either of the two mentioned draft bills and that he demands a dialog to be turned into a decent debate with the Finance Minister of Romania, a decent debate which is permiated by professionalism, added Mr. Georgescu, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. RADOR

    [07] Debate organized by the Institute of Liberal Studies

    Institute of Liberal Studies organized a debate on Tuesday on the theme YOUNG PEOPLE AND PROMOTION OF VALUES. RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI informs that present were the Chairman of the Romanian Senate, Mircea Ionescu Quintus, Minister of Justice Valeriu Stoica, the president of the national liberal youth organizations, Cristian Boureanu and other leaders of the National Liberal Party, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [08] Press declaration regarding rescheduling of debts

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu presented the members of the Executive Bureau decisions on rescheduling debts to the state budget, successive reschedule procedures which a number of companies benefit of. From now on, the Prime Minister said, the principles of possible reschedule decisions of the Cabinet will be based on total transparency of the respective company and admittance of ceiling of debts. Mr. Isarescu said that from now on he thinks reschedules will be very rare as chosen will be companies that prove they can administer their resources very well and are faced by temporary difficulties. A statement from the Cabinet which is quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI mentions that the Prime Minister said that during his mandate no company gets any advantage on bases others than economic assessment and correctness.     [09] Government of Romania reacts against the STANDARD AND POOR'S Agency

    The Cabinet of Romania qualified as " surprising " the conclusion of the study of the agency STANDARD AND POOR'S which places Romania in the risk area towards the end of the year in as far as paying back debts is concerned. The Cabinet of Romania underlines the fact that all international bodies that monitor Romania are of the unanimous opinion that our country has a good currency reserve and promptly pays back instalments of foreign debt and interest rates. As a matter of fact, a story broadcast by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI announces, the Cabinet considers that this last assessment of the Agency commemorates passing of 20 months since STANDARD AND POOR'S announced the bankrupcy of the economy of Romania as an immediate occurence. We are on the right track and we are able to pay back all obligations, the communique of the Romanian cabinet further reads. RADOR

    [10] Debates at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture

    The Ministry of Food and Agriculture hosts the debates of the Cabinet subcommission for agriculture and food regarding the strategy on medium term presented by Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu in Strasbourg with a view to accession to the European Union. According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI the debates have in view the tendencies on an European plan and in the world, the present stage of Romanian agriculture, restructure and the development of agricultural sectors. The debates are chaired by Minister of Agriculture Ioan Muresan. RADOR

    [11] Investment programme for preventing floods in Romania

    After having visited several areas which were flooded last week, the Prime Minister of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, said that major investments must be made in those areas to prevent losses and tragedies in the future. President Constantinescu decided to convene the Supreme Council for the Defense of the Country. In as far as investments are concerned Mr. Lazea who is secretary general of the Ministry of the Environment said that about 15 thousand billion lei are needed. In as far as the request of Hungary and the Ukraine are concerned for the laying out of the course of the Tisa river the same official said the PHARE programme already provides for the building of several dams and for a performing radar in county Maramures, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.     [12] Romanian foreign minister is visiting Saudi Arabia

    Romanian foreign minister Petre Roman has started a three day visit to Saudi Arabia devoted to the intensification of relations of collaboration between the two countries. Mr. Roman has already had talks with the second Saudi vicepremier Prince Abdul Al Saud who is also minister of defense and air transportation. Romanian foreign minister also met with the Saudi foreign minister Saud Al Faisal for a round of talks on prospects of collaboration between Romania and Saudi Arabia. The programme of the visit also includes a reception by the Saudi sovereign, King Fahd, and talks with the successor to the throne, Prince Abdulah. There an interest in Saudi Arabia for cooperation in oil industry with Romania. RADOR

    [13] Storm 2000

    Romania and Bulgaria started the tactical exercise STORM 2000 involving military of the two countries on ground, on water and in the air according to NATO standards. The exercise started on the 11-th and ends tomorrow, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

    President Emil Constantinescu has convened the Supreme Council for the Defense of the Country in an emergency meeting to analyze the aftermath of the floods in Romania. Also attending is Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu.

    Joint session of the Romanian Parliament with the Prime Minister asking the MPies to vote the budget as it is, worded by the Romanian Government.

    Representatives of the parties of the ruling coalition are meeting to finalize government decision regarding restructure of the government agencies.

    Weekly press conference of the spokesperson of the Romanian Foreign Ministry Ireny Comaroschi.

    National Agency for Communications and Informatics invites all those interested to attend the official opening of the international symposium DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATICS MARKET IN SOUTH EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES.
