The Foreign Affairs Commission of the Moldovan Parliament approved on Wednesday the draft regarding the double citizenship forwarded by president Petru Lucinschi. The draft harmonizes Moldovan laws with the European Convention on citizenship, which provides for double citizenship in case of mixed marriages and of children born or adopted by couples with double citizenship. RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI mentions though that the draft does not solve the issue of Moldovan citizens applying for Romanian citizenship on the ground that their parents or grandparents were born at a time when the Republic of Moldova was part of Romania. A group of Moldovan experts arrived on Wednesday in Bucharest to have consultations with the Romanian officials regarding the intention of the Moldovan authorities to sign an agreement recognizing the Romanian citizenship for the almost 300,000 Moldovans who were granted it.
