  • [01] Statement of the Prime Minister of Romania

    The Prime Minister of Romania came forward with the statement according to which rumors reading the electoral ceiling will be brought down by Cabinet emergency ordinance are false and adding that no political party, alliance or association forwarded such a request.

    [02] Bucharest Appeal Court suspended order of the Finance Minister

    Court of Appeal of the city of Bucharest suspended order of the Finance Minister Remes following which General Manager of Customs of this country Sapunaru was dismissed. The reason given was that Sapunaru did not have the proper education to become involved in this field of activity. The order of the Finance Minister was issued last week and contested in Court by Sapunaru. Upon learning of the decision of the Court of Appeal of the city of Bucharest Cabinet Minister Remes said he would fight the appeal with the Supreme Court of Justice.

    [03] The National College for Research of the Archives of Former Securitate continues hearings

    This College started hearings yesterday and continues today as well. Heard are condidates of various political parties in the race for the Parliament of Romania who are suspected to have collaborated with the former communist secret political police SECURITATE. The final conclusions are to be released to the press and published on Wednesday.

    [04] Turkish - Romanian Bank makes regular pay to customers

    Companies that have their money with the Turkish - Romanian Bank have received money asked for and due starting Monday but only if that money was needed to pay salaries. Clients continue to get their money back - if they want to - to the ceiling of 3000 USD per instalment.

    [05] Pensioners are asking for increased pensions

    The central organizations of pensioners of Romania are asking the Government to increase pensions which are under the smallest salary of the Romanian economy. Prime Minister Isarescu told them pensions are to be increased starting January while the Cabinet is seeking ways and means so that they are paid when they are due.

    [06] Equipment for the Oradea cleaning water station

    The United States Ambassador to Romania, James Rosapepe, inaugurated the new equipment for cleaning water of the town of Oradea. The newly equipped station has all the machinery bought by USAID. The project has six other economic units of county Bihor in view.

    [07] Successes of the Romanian inventors at EUREKA 2000

    The 49 - th edition of the World Salon of inventions EUREKA 2000 which was held in Brussels witnessed one of the greatest successes of Romanian inventors until now as all inventions presented there received awards and prizes, namely: eight gold medals and special mentions, 39 gold medals, 34 silver medals, seven bronze medals. The Romanian National Institute for Biology of Development received three special prizes. Another special prize went to the Food Chemistry Institute. The Romanian inventions were remarked for low consumption and a minimum of raw materials used, very simple operation precedure, valuable contribution to the protection of the environment. At the same time more than 40 commercial conventions were concluded.

    [08] Romanian economic mission to Yugoslavia

    The Romanian economic delegation of the National Association of Importers and Exporters of Romania and of the Ministry of Industries and Commerce of Romania have met at the Federal Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Yugoslavia in Belgrade with a large group of local businessmen. The Romanian delegation includes about 50 general managers or representatives of companies in the domains of oil, chemical industry, metallurgy, the food industry, power and building. Romanian businessmen are headed by the chairman of the National Association of Importers and Exporters, Mihai Ionescu, and they aim to meet with over 100 Yugoslav companies and firms. Money-wise the figure is of 100 million USD. The Romanian delegation will also be received by officials of the Foreign Trade Ministry. The visit of the Romanian businessmen to Yugoslavia is part of the economic cooperation with traditional partners of that country and has as an additional target new ways and means of collaboration in the economic field.

    [09] The French foreign minister about the visa question for the Romanian and Bulgarian citizens

    Mr. Hubert Vedrine said that the states which are members of the European Union have a positive attitude with regard to the proposal of finding an interim solution to the problem of visas for the Romanian and the Bulgarian citizens that travel to the Schengen area. Hubert Vedrine who chaired a European Union foreign ministers meeting in Brussels also said that the foreign ministers of the EU will ask their colleagues, Cabinet ministers of Home Affairs and Justice, to support the adoption of interim solutions which consist in the temporary cancellation of visas for Romanians and Bulgarians, the only candidates to European Union membership that are still compelled to have travel visas, reports RADIO FRANCE INTERNATIONALE.

    The National College for Research of the Archives of former Securitate continues hearing candidates to parliamentary elections suspected to have collaborated with former secret political police ( Securitate ).

    Special Cabinet session.

    A delegation led by secretary of state Eugen Dijmarescu, Head of the Department for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, attends the third ministerial meeting of the Intergovernment Commission for Romania's adherence to the European Union which unfolds in Brussels, Belgium.

    Romania has real chances that its National Plan for agriculture and development of the country-side by approved this time by the Specialized Committee of the European Commission.

    The Secretary General of the Federation of Associations of Hunters of the European Community, Monsieur Yves Lecocq, concludes visit to Romania today by talks with Adrian Nastase who is the President of the General Association of Hunters and Fishermen of Romania and also the permanent delegate of the Romanian Association to the European Federation.
