    The Mpies have passed the agenda and the working programme for this week; howevr the second meeting was devoted to questions addressed to the Prime Minister of Romania.

    [02] Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu about the second instalment of the IMF loan

    The analysis of the case of Romania by the Board of the IMF could lead to the postponment of the granting of the third instalment of the loan said Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu. He specified that the accord with the IMF started on the wrong foot this year because we chose to increase salaries of the employees of the Defense sector. On the other hand the Prime Minister added he would not be able to reduce arrears by the time the case of Romania's instalment is on the agenda of the Board of Directors of the IMF.

    [03] Seminar organized by the Government of Romania

    The Hilton Hotel of the city of Bucharest hosts the seminar on the theme THE PROVINCES ARE EQUAL TO THE CENTER IN AS FAR AS ECONOMIC INITIATIVES ARE CONCERNED, a seminar organized by the Cabinet of Romania. Opening the debates of the seminar the Prime Minister of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, made a presentation of the general situation of Romania's economy at present. As RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI informs the Prime Minister insisted on the fact that we have the electoral campaign going on but this will not stop the reform in Romania in any way. Mr. Isarescu estimated that exports of Romania could register a volume worth ten thousand million USD by the end of the year. Inflation, on the other hand, will reach almost 40 per cent. The Cabinet continues the consolidation of the fiscal reform that was started at the beginning of the year, the final aim being that of creating a system as close as possible to the European fiscal system.

    [04] Unblocking of the river Danube starts soon

    Budapest, Hungary, saw the conclusion of the meeting of the representatives of the countries that are members of the Danube Commission as part of which a decision was made, having the necessary legal character, to start the unblocking of the river in the Yugoslav sector following the bombing last year during the air raids against that country. The project manager is the French Bernard Chevenet. Romania's ambassador to Budapest who is the representative of Romania in the Danube Commission, Mr. Petru Cordos, said that all representatives present at the session appreciated the decision made by the democratic authorities of Yugoslavia to support the initiatives of the Danube Commission.

    [05] CALENDAR

    The President of Romania Emil Constantinescu is visiting the S O S - Children Village of Bucharest, Calea Floreasca and awards the S O S - Children Villages of Romania NGO the DIPLOMA OF EXCELLENCE.

    Senate plenum debates today on the report of the commission of inquiry into the State Ownership Fund. Today as well the senators are to establish membership of the parliamentary commission that monitors broadcasting time during the electoral campaign.

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu and the ambassador of France to Romania, Pierre Menat are visiting the DACIA automotive plant of the town of Pitesti which is closely cooperating with RENAULT.

    Press Conference at the Ministry of National Education.

    Ministry of Health of Romania, the Turkish - Romanian Bank and the National Agency for the Protection of the Rights of Children are holding a press conference announcing a comprehensive vaccination programme for the institutionalized children of Romania.

    Opening in Frankfurt on the Main of the 52-nd edition of the International Book Fair where for the first time Romania has a national pavillion and a catalog of the participating editing houses.

    The embassy of Canada to Romania announces a press conference about projects of film cooperation at the residence of the Union of Romanian Film- makers.
