  • [01] INTERNATIONAL BUCHAREST FAIR 2000

    Romexpo hosted the opening of the 26-th edition of the International Fair Bucharest 2000 with the participation of over 1000 companies of 124 countries. 15 countries have national pavilions. Of the 1000 participating companies about 500 are Romanian. Among the banks which support various organizations present at the fair there are Group Societe Generale, the Romanian Bank of Development, the Romanian Bank and Demir Bank Romania. The Romanian minister of Trade and Industry Radu Berceanu greeted, yesterday, all the participants in the fair and the delegation of Yugoslavia which he named the delegation of " true Yugoslavia ". With regard to trade with Russia and China the Romanian Cabinet minister said special plans were designed to reconquer the once traditional markets of Romania in the afore mentioned countries.

    [02] The Balkan Metallurgy Conference

    Bucharest is hosting the second edition of the Balkan metallurgy Conference on the theme DEVELOPMENT OF METALLURGY IN THE BALKANS at the beginning of the III - rd millenium. It is organized by the Balkan Union of Metallurgy, the Chamber of Industry and Trade of this country and the Association of Diploma and Chartered Engineers of Romania as well as the Institute of Metallurgical Prognosis of the Balkan countries. About 40 foreign specialists and 50 Romanian specialists are attending. The Romanian organizers are also holding in plenum session the conference of the Management Council of the Balkan Metallurgy Union. The Romanian side wishes to propose the expansion of the organization by attracting new members of the Central European countries and the Black Sea area, a fact which contributes to a bigger impact of this organization in the general policy of European integration.

    [03] The visit of President of U D M R to the United States

    Marko Bela, president of the Union of Democratic Magyars of Romania, made a visit to the United States during which he asked the United States officials whom he met to follow with particular attention the development of the political situation in Romania after the elections in the fall. Mr. Marko Bela also said he did not use the word " monitoring " but he voiced his concern at the possible blocking of the solution of the problems of the minorities of Romania in the case a nationalistic cabinet will be made up after the elections. He referred to PDSR - the Social Democracy Party of Romania - and specified that until now in the programme of this party there is no positive solution for the solving of the ethnical problems. If these problems are not solved, tension could ensue of which Romania has no need, said the UDMR President at a press conference.

    [04] PDSR answers Marko Bela

    The vicepresident of PDSR Ioan Mircea Pascu said he noticed that Marko Bela was somehow concerned in connection with the future cabinet formula. Vicepresident Ioan Mircea Pascu also said that PDSR was always ready to discuss with UDMR and find solutions together to all the problems of the minorities. Mr. Pascu also said that as far as he knew there were no ethnical problems in this country as Romania does observe all world standards and norms in this respect. The problems to which Marko Bela refers are not of ethnical nature although UDMR presented these issues as being of an ethnical nature.

    [05] Visit of the Romanian Prime Minister to Prague

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu met with his Czech opposite number Milos Zeman estimating the talks as having been very efficient. The Romanian Prime Minister said the relations between Romania and the Czech Republic are excellent and he voiced his wish for the political relations between the two countries to encourage ever so much bilateral economic ties. As part of bilateral relations stress was laid on the support of the Czech Republic for Romania's integration in the European Union and in NATO. The Romanian Prime Minister also met with parliamentarians of the host country and he was received by the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel.

    [06] CALENDAR

    Romanian foreign minister Petre Roman together with the minister of industry and trade Radu Berceanu accompanied by the president of the national agency for regional development Mihai David are making a working visit to Belgrade where they are being received by President Vojislav Kostunita: the Romanian delegation also have talks with Zoran Djindjici, president of the Democratic Party of Serbia.

    The Economic Commission of the United Nations for Europe ( UN/ECE ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce - The

    Romanian Center for Foreign Trade and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania have been organizing the Conference on the theme E TRADE IN ROMANIA AND IN SOUTH EASTERN EUROPE with the participation of the United States Ambassador to Romania, James Rosapepe.

    Visit to Bucharest of the Swedish minister of agriculture, food and fishing, Margareta Winberg accompanied by the secretary of state for issues of equality of chances, Lise Berg.

    Bucharest is hosting, in the period 10 - 12 October the first national investment forum of Romania organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of this country.

    Symposium THE DAY OF THE HUNGARIAN ECONOMY organized by the Hungarian Commercial Center to Bucharest and the World Trade Center at the World Trade Center.

    The Romanian Space Center will sign an accord of cooperation with the French Space Agency for achieving projects in telemedicine and agriculture.

    The Romanian Press Club invites all those interested to attend the official opening of the International Press Center at World Trade Plaza.
