[02] A group of very well known members of the National Liberal Party
announced they resign from the party
A group of very well known members of the National Liberal Party announced
they resign from the party and organize a group that will constitute the
real and genuine PNL - National Liberal Party - the group being made up of
the following: Traian Decebal Remes, Dan Amedeo Lazarescu, Vincentiu
Gavanescu, Laurentiu Priceputu, Sorin Botez, Maria Tetu, Ioana Bratianu and
Alexandru Popescu. They are all saying they leave PNL in the present
formula as it flagrantly deviates towards the communist left wing.
The leadership of the National Liberal Party announced they invited the
present finance minister Decebal Traian Remes to be present at the next
meeting of the leadership of the party and explain his position after the
extraordinary congress of the that party that decided to support the
candidacy of Stolojan to the position of President of Romania while Finance
Minister Remes, instead of abiding by the decision of the congress,
continues to declare he stands for the candidacy of Prime Minister Mugur
Isarescu for the position of President of Romania.
[03] Petre Roman declares he hopes his candidacy to the office of president
of Romania be approved by the next national convention of the Democratic
Party
Now at Neptun on the Black Sea Coast of Romania, Petre Roman, president of
the Democratic Party, for his meting with the visiting foreign minister of
Slovenia, Alojz Peterle, his counterpart, said he hoped the next
extraordinary convention of the Democratic Party will pass his candidacy
for the office of president of Romania as he considered he was the most
suited of the candidates for this office. Petre Roman added he was the most
appropriate person to fill in the office of President of Romania for the
period 2001 - 2004.
[04] PDSR is not happy with the date of the elections on 26 November
The Social Democracy Party of Romania released a communique by which it
declares it was not all happy with the date of 26 November as the date of
the next parliamentary and presidental elections of Romania. The communique
reads among other things that PDSR considers that by this the parties now
ruling the country will take advantage of the National Day of Romania to
further their electoral propoganda for the second ballot of the
Presidential elections and the future cabinet of this country will not be
able to cope with the winter situation and difficulties. In short PDSR
would have better preferred to have the date of the elections on November
12.

there will be no more street vending with the exception of flowers. books,
newspapers and magazines
According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI this is the future street commercial
activity of the city as most the street vendors and doing nothing else but
selling contraband cigarettes and bad food. The mayor said that if the
street vendors do not understand to cease activity bulldozers will be used
and in this way the public spaces and sidewalks which at present are
occupied by the street vendors will be freed for public use again.
[06] Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu received the ambassador of the United
States to Romania
During the meeting between the Prime Minister and the Ambassador stress was
laid on the relations between the two countries, the economic ties in the
first place and on the participation of United States companies in the
privatization process of this country. Both Prime Minister Isarescu and
Ambassador Rosapepe also talked of the latest developments economy wise in
this country especially now on the eve of negociations with the
International Monetary Fund.
[07] Visit to Romania of the Canadian Head of the Joint Cheifs of Staff
General Maurice Baril had official talks with his Romanian opposite number
general Mircea Chelaru on which occasion an analysis was made of the
Romanian - Canadian cooperation and capability of the Romanian army to
participate in actions of peace keeping including the Balkan region. The
restructure process of the Romanian army was tackled during the talks of
the Canadian general with the Romanian secretary of state for defense
Mircea Plingu.

Romanian and International Monetary Fund experts start negociations for the
second instalment of the loan which is on stand-by, the main topic being
budget alteration this year.
United States Ambassador James Rosapepe alongside the home minister
Constantin Dudu Ionescu and the FBI Assistant Director are attending the
opening of the office of the legal attachee of the FBI here in Bucharest.
Political parties of CDR 2000 are resuming talks for the places on the
lists of candidates for the Parliament of Romania with a view to the
elections in the fall.
At Mamaia, on the Black Sea Coast of Romania, this year's edition of the
yearly festival of Romanian popular music.
Ballet star Rasvan Mazilu and the group RO - MANIA present today a show at
the second edition of the festival BALKAN SQUARE organized by the
municipality of Neapolis, near Salonika.
