    [03] Official report on the stages of integration of Romania in the European Union

    "Romania has a long and difficult road to cover in order to be admitted into the European Union" concludes the official report referring to the stage of integration of our country in the European Union, a report drawn by Lady Emma Nicholson who reports on behalf of Romania to the European Parliament. The main obstacles as mirrored by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI are institutionalized children, corruption and the reform of public administration. Despite these difficulties and the establishment of priorities by Bucharest, the European Union - the report reads - should send some clear signs of encouragement to Romania such as the cancellation of travel visas for the Romanian citizens.

    While in Philadelphia for the Convention of the Republican Party Adrian Nastase has met with Governor of Texas and nominee of the Republican Party to the office of President, George Walker Bush, with Dick Cheney who runs on the same ticket with Mr. Bush for the White House, with senators and congressmen. Mr. Nastase granted interviews to the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER and to the CHICAGO TRIBUNE as part of which particular attention was granted to the intensification of efforts for a most rapid integration of Romania in Euro - Atlantic structures.

    [05] ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION inaugurated a new FM transmitter at Cluj

    The moment was marked by a festivity with the participation of the President Director General of RADIO ROMANIA, Andrei Dimitriu, the deputy director general of RADIO ROMANIA and Head of the Regional Radio Stations Department of RADIO ROMANIA, Gheorghe Verman, the director of the local Cluj radio station Florin Zaharescu, members of the Administration Council and the directors of Radio Craiova and Radio Targu Mures, officials of the municipality and of county Cluj.

    President Director General Andrei Dimitriu appreciated the programme schedule of Radio Cluj, the correct, inspired and well balanced presentation of the activity in the area which is covered by Radio Cluj which actually give the programmes of this radio station great credibility. Regional radio will have an ever more important role to play in the promotion of correct information, of cultural tradition, of topical events in the localities which are covered by each and every regional radio station of RADIO ROMANIA. Mr. Dimitriu said that in the very near future new FM transmitters will be inaugurated at Targu Mures and for RADIO ROMANIA MUSICAL and on the occasion recalled that new transmitters were inaugurated for Radio Craiova and Radio Resita early this year.

    The strategy of the Administration Board of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION is focused on the modernization of the corporation by the achievement of an integrated digital system to include the national channels and the regional radio stations, the adoption of West FM bands to all our broadcasts, the building of the new Broadcasting House of Radio Iasi, the increased quality of the programmes and of the audience said at Cluj the President Director General of Radio Romania, Andrei Dimitriu, as a rally with the media. The network of the Regional Programmes Department will have in the very near future new local regional radio stations at Piatra Neamt which is in the Eastern area of the country and at Sighetul Marmatiei which is in the Northern area of Romania. Answering a number of questions Mr. Dimitriu specified that the editorial policy of Romanian Public Radio will further be well balanced, open and in the service of truth, due attention being granted, at the same ! time, to the programmes in the languages of the ethnic minorities of Romania. The President of RADIO ROMANIA also said that in the near future direct links will be made with the Radio Cluj Concert Studio by RADIO ROMANIA MUSICAL. The good relations which we have with the European Broadcasting Union allow us to transmit to European countries some concerts which are performed live in the studio of Radio Cluj. In as far as the Bucharest Broadcasting House is concerned Mr. Andrei Dimitriu said that a priority is the newsroom which is to be modernized very soon and will get its own broadcasting studio within the same perimeter. The Center of Oral History will be moved into a much better endowed area of the building and will soon be part of a network of information. The President Director General of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION also said that a feasability study of the building will soon be finished so that consolidation work should start in the spring of 2001.

    Debates of the Romanian Parliament Committee for European integration

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu is in the Danube Delta making a working visit to several towns and villages of that area.

    Anca Boagiu who is minister of transportation of this country attends the ceremony of finishing touches to one of the most important highways of eastern Romania in the Urziceni-Buzau region.

    PNTCD - Christian Democratic National Peasants Party - has an electoral meeting at Sinaia for three days starting today.

    At Brasov at the Airplane Producing Factory there is a ceremony today connected to the delivery of the first IAR 46 airplane to the AirClub of Romania.

    BONEY M has a concert in Bucharest today at Sala Mare a Palatului. Tomorrow they are on the Black Sea Coast of Romania with a concert at Constanta which is the biggest sea-port of this country to the Black Sea.

    Birthday today of Queen Mother - Lady Elisabeth Bowes-Lyon - who was born 100 years ago. Let us wish Her A HAPPY CENTENNIAL !
