After talks with the President of Mexico at the Palacio Nacional a number of accords and agreements will be signed. One of the main aims of the Mexican and Brazilian visits is the boosting of economic ties; the Mexican government is a consistent promoter of free trade as that country is part of the free trade agreement with the European Union and party to the free trade agreement of North America among Mexico, the United States and Canada. A number of officials is accompanying the President of Romania on his LAtin American tour among them being Mircea Ciumara, minister of state entrusted with economic issues, secretaries of state with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Stelian Oancea and Sorin Potanc, the President Director General of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting !

    According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI president Emil Constantinescu arrived in Mexico City after a stop over on the Eastern Coast of Canada. The flight lasted for 16 hours. After talks with the President of Mexico at the Palacio Nacional a number of accords and agreements will be signed. One of the main aims of the Mexican and Brazilian visits is the boosting of economic ties; the Mexican government is a consistent promoter of free trade as that country is part of the free trade agreement with the European Union and party to the free trade agreement of North America among Mexico, the United States and Canada. A number of officials is accompanying the President of Romania on his LAtin American tour among them being Mircea Ciumara, minister of state entrusted with economic issues, secretaries of state with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Stelian Oancea and Sorin Potanc, the President Director General of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting !

The visiting President of Romania had talks with the President of Mexico Ernesto Zedillo and then they signed four documents of bilateral cooperation between Romania and Mexico at the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. These are the Interdepartmental Convention for sanitary and veterinary purposes, the convention on avoiding double taxation and for preventing tax dodging, the third accord signed being focused on university diplomas; the last one is the interbanking accord between Eximbank of Romania and Bancomex of Mexico, informs the envoy of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI who accompanies the President of Romania on his Latin American tour and sends in reports for the first channel of news and reports of RADIO ROMANIA.

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu about European integration

    At Iasi, where he was awarded the order MOLDAVIAN CROSS and the icon of Saint Paraschiva which is the symbol of Iasi by the Metropolitan of Moldova and Bucovina Daniel, Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu told a group of higher education professors and students that the process of European integration is an objective factor and very important for Romania is to be integrated by preserving its traditional values and assets while deeds must be more important than words. Despite the efforts of the Cabinet this year inflation is still high as the USD and the lei ratio keeps scaling in favor of the USD to which the drought of Romanian agriculture this year must also be added.

    RESCUE EAGLE 2000 multinational exercise ended

    The Babadag shooting and exercise ground saw the conclusion of the RESCUE EAGLE 2000 multination exercise organized by the Chiefs of Staff of the Romanian Military Navy with the participation of 2500 military and equipment coming from eight countries. According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI general Dennis McCartney, Head of the Reservists Department of US Marines and viceadmiral Traian Atanasiu, Chief of Staff of Romanian Navy estimated that the drills took place according to plan and was a success for all participants.

    Romania may export to the European Union starting this month meat and live animals

    Starting this month Romania may export to the European Union meat and live animals as well as food products without any taxes and can import chicken and cheeses which have not been subsidized by the state reads a communique of the Ministry of Industry and Trade quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. The communique then lists quantities and kinds of products whose taxes are nil for the beginning and which with every passing year are enriched by ten per cent with a view to Romania's joining the European Union.

    State visit to Mexico of President Emil Constantinescu, a visit which ends on 23 July.

    For three days the town of Suceava in Northern Moldova hosts the meeting of the interparliamentary council Romania - the Republic of Moldova.

    Four Romanian parliamentarians are attending the seventh interparliamentary tennis tournament of Wimbledon which is organized by the British Parliament today and tomorrow.

    Visit to Romania of the President of the Economic and Social Council of France Jacques Dermagne and his chief of cabinet Marie-Claude Dardayrol at the invitation of the Romanian President of the Economic and Social Council Norica Nicolai.

    Meeting of the PNl negociators with their counterparts of PNTCD.

    Negociations today between the General Mayor of the city of Bucharest and representatives of the unionists working for the Bucharest Public Transportation System - RATB - at the seat of the General Mayor's office of Bucharest.

    General Mayor of the city of Bucharest also meets later today with the representatives of the owners of small vending places which are placed all over the city with or without the proper authorization and papers.

    The Romanian Commercial Bank organizes at the Complex of professional training of the bank of Brasov the seminar under the title BANKING COMMUNICATION AND THE MASS MEDIA.

    Sinaia, in the Carpathian mountains, hosts the 41-st edition of the summer classes and scientific colloquia of Romanian language and literature, history and arts of the Romanians for foreign professors, higher education students and translators of Romanian literature in the interval 21 July - 15 August.

    [04] Anniversaries and Commemorations

    1821 - birth of Vasile Alecsandri, poet, dramatist, politician and diplomat. Alecsandri died in 1890.

    1945 - birth of Mircea Lucescu, Romanian coach of Galatasaray of Istanbul. Lucescu was one of the greatest football players of Romania, he played for Dinamo of Bucharest and created the A league team Corvinul of Hunedoara. He played for the national squad of Romania as right wing and after becoming a coach he worked for the national team of Romania and for Italian teams. Before leaving for Istanbul he was the coach of Rapid of Bucharest. His son Razvan is a goal- keeper and works as a professional football player.

    1920 - Birth of Isaac Stern, American violin player of Russian origin.

    Tomorrow 22 July

    In 1946 Petre Roman was born. He is currently the Romanian foreign minister. He is the president of the Democratic Party - Partidul Democrat - and he was Prime Minister of Romania between December 1989 - September 1991.

    In 1951 the Metropolitan of Moldova and Bucovina Daniel Ciobotea was born.

    Transitions

    Josef Strauss passed away in 1870. He had been born in 1827.
