[01] President Emil Constantinescu receives at the Cotroceni Palace the
participants in the summer school for higher education students ROMANIA IN
THE XXI-th CENTURY.
In Bucharest the debates continue of the ninth session of the Parliamentary
Assembly of OSCE. After the morning session the participants go on a trip
to Snagov in the afternoon. Debates of the standing committees of the
Senate: the economic, the foreign policy, legal matters and health
committees. The Prime Minister of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, has a programme
in which also included is the conference with the title THE ROMANIAN MODEL
OF INTER-ETHNIC RELATIONS, THE LAST TEN YEARS, THE FUTURE TEN YEARS. Key
note speaker is the Ambassador of the United States to Romania, James
Rosapepe. Minister of Justice Valeriu Stoica receives Seth Waxman, General
Attorney in the Justice Department of the United States. Romanian foreign
minister Petre Roman receives visiting President of theCFinnish Parliament
Riita Uosukainen. At the Finance Ministry two accords are signed regarding
loans to Romania by Andrew Vorkink, director for Romania of the World Bank
and the responsible Romanian officials. In Bucharest unfolding of the round
table on the theme ROMANIAN AMERICAN ECONOMIC RELATIONS. Press conference
at the Ministry of Culture on the theme ENDLESS COLUMN by Constantin
Brancusi. Institute of Liberal Studies organizes the interactive conference
on the theme RIGHT TO PROPERTY - A PILLAR OF THE MARKET ECONOMY. Varnishing
of the design exhibition under the title ZUPPA INGLESE organized by the
British Council with works of eight designers from the United Kingdom.
Anniversary today of Liviu Ciulei, one of the greatest stage managers of
the world; Mr. Ciulei was born in 1923 and he also is a member of the
Romanian Academy. In Japan on 7 July there is the TANATA FESTIVAL as part
of the DAY OF THOSE IN LOVE, also called the STAR FESTIVAL; according to
Japanese tradition, VCga and Altair are meeting once a year for romantic
purposes on the Milky Way and their date takes place on seven July.
[02] Launch of the programme ROMANIA GATWAY
On Thursday evening the programme ROMANIAN GATWAY was launched as part of
the Cabinet Programme for the development of the private sector. Financing
is provided by the Cabinet of Romania from funds which are loaned by the
World Bank.
[03] Launch of the national programme of biological agriculture
The programme of biological agriculture is part of the European norms for
adherence to the European Union and promotes clean technologies, without
any chemicals, of a nature to give very clean and natural crops, this kind
of agro food products being very well appreciated world wide. Courses for
producers and farmers are being organized by the open university THE FARMER,
the diplomas being recognized by the International Federation of Biological
Agriculture.
[04] Romania-the United States business round table
Prime Minister of RomaCia Mugur Isarescu participated in a round table
devoted to business between Romania and the United States. The purpose of
the round table is that to develop a pilot station for the development of
business on the basis of already existing infrastructures such as the
Romanian - American Committee of Action, the Business Council Romania - the
United States, as well as the new network of business between the two
countries.
[05] Minister of Agriculture estimates the wheat crop covers domestic needs
After reckoning in the wheat crop of about 40 per cent of the cultivated
surface minister of agriculture Ioan Muresan said that until now there are
1.8 million tonnes of wheat gathered in. There are guarantees that from the
rest of the surface another 2.2 tonnes will be added so that the total
wheat crop reaches 4 tonnes in the fall which is enough to cover domestic
needs by the next crop. The Romanian minister of food and agriculture added
that the so called wheat problem of Romania does not eCist.
[06] Romania will receive a loan from the World Bank
Andrew Vorkink, director for Romania and Bulgaria of the World Bank
confirmed on Thursday that the World Bank will give Romania 600 - 700 USD
in the following interval for the health reform and for the projects on the
facilitation of trade and transports in South Eastern Europe.
[07] Military manouvers RESCUE EAGLE 2000 will take place in Romania
Military manouvers
RESCUE EAGLE 2000 will take place in Romania in the interval 7 - 21 July
being coordinated with the military manouvers Medceur 2000 in the spirit of
the programmes of the Partnership for peace for granting assistance in
cases of natural disasters. Participating are forces of Romania, the United
States, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Moldova and Turkey.
[08] Romania - on the path of European integration with political and
economic consequences
This has been the theme of the round table organized at the Hilton Hotel of
Bucharest by the Romanian Association for Creedom and Development and the
Friedrich Neumann Foundation . The Romanian National Liberal Party leaders
present at the round table asked the liberals who are members of the
European Council to support the efforts of Romania to join the European
Union. The representatives of the Group of reform of OSCE also present at
the debates said it was Romania's call to improve domestic aspects that
need to be improved while the European Union must of course support the
efforts of Romania to accession.
[09] Cabinet session devoted to negociations for accession to the European
Union
The Cabinet discussed on Thursday the report on Romania's accession to the
European Union that has key elements of the common stands of the Union.
Also passed was the report on the progress registered with a view to
preparations for Romania's accession to the European Union as well as
developments in the interval September 1999 - June 2000.
[10] Increased pensions for farmers of Romania
Minister of labor and social Crotection Smaranda Dobrescu announced that
starting 1 August the pensions of farmers will be increased by 30 per cent.
At the same time Mrs. Dobrescu said that her ministry has in view a new
policy in the domain of debts and payments spreading out for a complete
transparency in this domain.
[11] The President of Romania hails the decision of the European Parliament
regarding cancellation of visas for the Romanian citizens
The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, said he appreciated very
much the decision of the European Parliament regarding the cancellation of
visas for the Romanian citizens that travel to the European Union
countries. The President of Romania thanks the European Council on behalf
of all citizens of the country, reads a communique of the Presidency of
Romania.
[12] Reception ceremonies at the President of Romania
President Emil Constantinescu has received a delegation of OSCE led by
Mrs.Benita Ferrera - Waldner who is Austrian foreign minister and President
ofCOSCE. During the reception the President stood for the destruction of
weaponry in Transnistria this being a fundamental issue for the peoples of
Moldova, Romania and the Ukraine. Also on Thursday the President of Romania
received a delegation of the Finnish Parliament that participate in the
debates of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. In the afternoon the President met
with the Honorary Consul of our country to the United States, John Racolta
who lives in Detroit, in the presence of the ambassadors of Romania to the
United States and of the United States to Romania, Mircea Geoana and James
Rosapepe. The delegation of United States businessmen that were also
received by the President of Romania heard that the President would create
a special committee for the improvement of business environment in our
country.
