  • [01] President Emil Constantinescu voices his satisfaction at the conclusion of the START TWO Treaty between USA and the Russian Federation

    President Emil Constantinescu estimates that the ratifying by the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the START TWO Treaty between the USA and the Russian Federation is a remarkable progress for the strengthening of cooperation and the victory of peace. On Monday the President of Romania received the Russian Ambassador Vasili Keneaikin who handed the Romanian Head of State the Statement of President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of START TWO ratification, transmits RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [02] Visit to Chisinau of the Chairman of the Romanian Senate

    Mircea Ionescu - Quintus ended his two day official visit to Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova. The guest was received by Prime Minister Braghis and foreign minister Tabacaru. The hosts assured the guest that the visit was very important to them as it would be the visit of foreign minister of Romania Petre Roman. Upon his return home the Chairman of the Romanian Senate said that during the talks also approached was the issue of the Treaty between the two countries and during the talks in Chisinau the sides agreed on the fact that the Treaty should be finalized as soon as possible as then passed by the Parliaments of the two countries.     [03] Visit to Egypt of foreign minister Petre Roman

    Now on a visit to Egypt Romanian foreign minister Petre Roman was received by President Hosni Mubarak with whom he discussed bilateral relations and economic cooperation. Mr. Roman also approached the issue of convening in Bucharest this summer a meeting of the OSCE and the six Med partners, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [04] Visit to Poland of Romanian Minister of Justice

    The two countries agreed upon a plan of integrating the Community acquis in domestic legislation. Minister of Justice Valeriu Stoica met in Warsaw with his opposite number Mrs. Hanna Suchocka who said she was very happy at the reform of the judicial system of Romania and for the fact that there are new institutions dealing with the projects discussed. A communique of the Romanian Ministry of Justice quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI also mentions that Poland will follow in the steps of Romania and set up a National Institute of Magistracy. RADOR

    [05] <P ALIGN=JUSTIFY> Visit of the Dutch Defense Minister, Frank de Grave, to Bucharest

    Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Frank de Grave,is in Romania for talks with the Romanian defense minister Sorin Frunzaverde, with the members of the Defense Committees of the Romanian Parliament and for a reception by the President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu. The two defense ministers had a meeting during which they reviewed the ways and means to improve military cooperation and interoperations activity within NATO and with the NATO member countries; the two defense ministers also approached issues linked to the implementation of the national annual Programme for NATO integration, regional and European security in the Balkans, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. According to a joint declaration of the two defense ministers a Romanian army engineers platoon will be integrated in the Dutch SFOR contingent in Bosnia. RADOR

    [06] International Balkan conference on issues of regional collaboration

    Bulgaria and Romania have suffered biggest losses following last year's conflict in Kosovo and NATO's bombing of Yugoslavia said Ventislav Kisiov deputy of the Bulgarian minister of foreign affairs at the Balkan International Conference devoted to issues of regional collaboration. Romanian secretary of state with the Foreign Ministry Eugen Dijmarescu said the teachings of last year following Kosovo might make Balkan countries develop more rapidly. RADOR

    [07] President Emil Constantinescu signed a bill into law

    President Emil Constantinescu signed the bill sanctioning the framework agreement of the loan between Romania and the Fund for Social development of the Council of Europe signed in Paris on 29 July last year. The loan is worth 1.67 million USD and is financing the project for the expansion of the Center of Reccuperation and Rehabilitation at Gura Ocnitei in county Ialomita. RADOR

    [08] <P ALIGN=JUSTIFY> Cabinet session

    Cabinet has adopted a decision regarding increase of pensions. The process is done in six stages starting 1 May this year and the end users are pensioners whose state funded pensions were given before 1998. Also on Tuesday during the special Cabinet session it was decided to alter and complete the bill on the use of the special fund for national roads and highways. Thus the Diesel price per litre goes up by 300 lei while that of gasoline is up by 500 lei. RADOR

    [09] The Cabinet has decided to restructure the company ROMGAZ MEDIAS

    On Tuesday the Cabinet decided to start restructure of ROMGAZ MEDIAS by separating activity of the present national company and by setting up economic agencies for transports, storage, exploitation, production and distribution. Also on Tuesday the Cabinet decided that 80 per cent of the revenues obtained by the State Ownership Fund from tourism should go to the State Fund. RADOR

    [10] Bank of the Black Sea has new President

    Stock holders of the Bank for Trade and Development of the Black Sea ended three day debates near Athens by electing the Managerial Council. President of the Bank is Merab Kakulia, governor of the Bank of Georgia, elected vicepresidents are Decebal Traian Remes of Romania ( Finance Minister ) and Viktor Iushchenko of the Ukraine. The Bank of the Black Sea has a capital of 1.2 thousand million USD which is divided among Albania, Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey and the Ukraine transmits ANA. RADOR

    [11] National Agency of Fair for Jobs

    National Agency of Fair for Jobs organized its eighth edition here in Bucharest. The offer of the 67 companies reads a little over two thousand while the persons interested are just 2000, meaning the number of persons attending the fair, transmits RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [12] Phoenix Baia Mare registers complaints

    Phoenix Baia Mare Trade Union Federation registers complaints as the Anglo- Indian company LI DEALS which has majority of stock intends to sack half of the 1800 employees. Metal works PHOENIX of Baia Mare is now the theater of unrest and complaints, general strike continues while the managers have hardly accepted dialog with the unionists, reports the correspondent of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI in the area. RADOR

    [13] Floods in the region of Tulcea at the Gate of the Danube Delta

    Danube water in the area of the town of Tulcea reached almost four meters thus endangering the lower suburbs of the town. The town officials have already worked out the evacuation plan to a camp which is situated at the foot of one of the seven hills on which Tulcea is situated. In the mean time specialists are busy building a dam of a length of 2.5 kms and which is worth about seven thousand million lei, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    [14] Assistance to the victims of the floods in Romania

    Red Cross sent to county Arad on Tuesday transport of food worth 205 million lei. The food is directly given to families of victims in the villages of Sintea Mare, Sebis and Ineu. Until now the Red Cross has sent aid to 28 localities of counties Alba, Arad, Bihor, Caras-Severin, Hunedoara, Mures, Satu Mare and Timis worth more than one thousand million lei, reads a communique quoted bu RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. The town of Craiova sent a transport with aid to the inhabitants of county Hunedoara who were seriously affected by floods. 8 tons of food and 300 blankets and bedcloths worth 100 million lei are being sent to victims of county Hunedoara. The number of donors is on the increase, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR

    President Emil Constantinescu is meeting with representatives of the institutions, companies and organizations, mass-media included, that have participated in the actions of helping victims of the floods in this country.

    Debates of the two chambers of the Romanian parliament continue for the passing of the draft law on the budget of this country for the current year.

    Vice-chairman of the Senate Doru Ioan Taracila is receiving the delegation of the committee for human rights, minorities and cults of the Hungarian Parliament.

    Committee for Foreign Relations of the Chamber of Deputies organizes the round table on the theme EUROPEAN UNION - FOREIGN POLICY OF SECURITY AND DEFENSE IN EUROPE.

    Romanian foreign minister Petre Roman continues visit in Algeria.

    Minister of Justice Valeriu Stoica participates at the start of the debates of the International Consultative Committee on issues of ruling and struggle against corruption in Warsaw, Poland.

    In Istanbul, Turkey, Romania is present at the meeting of COMMANDERS OF THE NAVAL FORCES OF THE BLACK SEA.
