    At the elections this year the Christian Democratic National Peasants Party, the National Liberal party, the Union of Right Wing Forces and the Civil Alliance ( PNTCD,PNL,UFD,ALIANTA CIVICA ) will adopt common strategy to counter offensive of the left wing toward power. Ana Blandiana said the Civil Alliance does not contemplate return to the Romanian Democratic Convention as they do not wish to be held reponsible for the unkept promises of the incumbent power made before winning elections in 1996.     [02] Statement of the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Ion Diaconescu about his official visit to Bulgaria

    Mr. Diaconescu said the official visit he made to Bulgaria at the invitation of the Chairman of the Bulgarian National Assembly is of historic importance as it coincided with the participation of the foreign ministers of Romania and Bulgaria in Brussels at the ceremony of the start of negociations for accession to the European Union. Mr. Diaconescu said the hosts and the guests alike exhibited attitude of collaboration which is constructive and is a positive signal for the building of an area of stability and work-together in South Eastern Europe.     [03] Press Conference of the Romanian foreign minister devoted to the start of negociations for Romania's accession to the European Union

    State Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Petre Roman had a press conference on Wednesday devoted to the start in Brussels of the negociations for Romania's accession to the European Union. Mr. Roman said it was a historic moment adding that our country has prepared a strategy of development to allow its accession to the European Union on 1 January 2007. The press conference was also attended by the ambassadors of Portugal and France to Bucharest as well as by the Head of the European Commission Delegation to Romania, Fokion Fotiadis. The ambassador of Portugal, a country which is the acting chairman of the European Union underlined that the negociations process is the same for all countries, and each country, according to development and conditions, having different evolution towards integration, will have a different moment of accession to the European Union. In his turn the ambassador of France hailed the events of Brussels assuring Bucharest of the entire support of the French Government in the process of negociations. The Head of the European Commission Delegation to Bucharest said the deadline set up by Romania for its accession to the European Union is both a challenge and a pledge which will demonstrate the possibility of achieving reforms in Romania. The European Commission will grant Romania all necessary assistence during this new stage. RADOR

    [04] Communique of the Ministry of Health

    The Ministry of Health mentions in a communique that maximum concentration of cianide was not above limits admitted in the river Danube in the sectors which supply drinking water to various areas of Romania. The population is informed all the time about the measures which must be adopted in case there is any risk of the contamination of drinking water.

    At the same time the Ministry of Health cooperates with the Ministry of Waters, Forestry and Environmental Protection in the monitoring of the river water. The communique is signed by the Director General of the Department of Public Health, Mircea Ioan Popa. RADOR
