[01] Debates on the Cooperation Bill in the Industry and Services
Commission of the Chamber of Deputies
The Industry and Services Commission of the Chamber of Deputies started the
debates on the Cooperation Bill, that would result in rules for the
activity of the services and credit co-operatives. According to RADIO
ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, the bill clearly defines the fields of activity of
these associations, the rights and obligations of the co-operative members,
the shares they may hold, the control of the co-operatives activity.

[02] PUNR Asks the Government to Finalize the State Budget by the End of
January
The Romanian National Unity Party asked the Government to finalize and
forward to the Parliament the draft budget for this year by the end of
January, so that it can be discussed in February. In a communique quoted by
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, PUNR also asks the Cabinet to really decrease
taxes, and to provide 3% from the national gross product for the
development of small and medium-sized enterprises. RADOR
[03] Meeting in Brasov in View of Reviving the Production of Farming
Machinery
Mircea Ciumara, chairman of the Economic and Financial Coordination Council,
met in Brasov representatives of the tractors factory and of the trade
union federation UMetal, to discuss the program of agriculture recovery,
and to look for technical and financial solutions in view of reviving the
production of farming machinery for the home market. According to RADIO
ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, the parts decided to resume the talks on Friday, and
together with agriculture minister Ioan Muresan and FPS president Radu
Sarbu to settle the issue of creating a company selling machinery for
agricultural products. RADOR
[04] FPS Intends to Finish Privatization This Year
FPS president Radu Sarbu said the State Property Fund intended to privatize
by the end of this year the last 3,100 state-owned companies it
administers. Sarbu considered the privatization of 2,775 companies would be
accompanied by restructuring. FPS wished to also privatize the 705 ex-state
farms during the first six months of this year. Radu Sarbu, quoted by RADIO
ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, expressed his optimism regarding the chances to
privatize SIDEX Galati. RADOR
[05] "Green Week" in Berlin
The largest fair of agricultural and food products, "Green Week", opened in
Berlin, RADIO DEUTSCHE WELLE informs. 1,648 participants from 58 will
exhibit their products till January 23, and will participate in debates and
exchanges of experience. The German Economy Cooperation Bureau has as
special guests Romania and Bulgaria. Although the economic exchanges for
agricultural and food products between Germany and the two South-East
European countries are very scarce, there are prospects of improvement.

[06] Sibiu and Paltinis Host the Second Edition of the Open Forum for the
Development of Tourism in the Region
Sibiu and Paltinis host for two days the second edition of the Open Forum
for the development of tourism in the area, international scientific event
organized by the local authorities and the German Society for Technical
Cooperation and Economic Deveopment. The main topics are, according to
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, the participation of Sibiu in the "Millennium
2000" exhibition in Hanovra, the development of mountain tourism in the
Fagaras Mountains, and of the rural, cultural and ecological tourism in
Marginimea Sibiului, and the creation of a centre for information and the
fostering of the Romanian-German touristic exchanges. RADOR
[07] "Ziua" Newspaper Writes About the Terrorist Actions of UCK
The American, German and British secret services trained the terrorist
organization of Albanians in Kosovo, the so-called UCK, to carry out
terrorist acts - writes the Romanian newspaper "Ziua", according to
information gathered from several sources. The mentioned sources pretend
the head of the protection forces in Kosovo, Agim Ceku is on the list of
war criminals drawn up by the Court in the Hague. RADIO BELGRADE notices
the Romanian newspaper is well known for its right wing and pro-American
position, the information being therefore the more so credible. According
to some Romanian opinions, this might mean either a change in the great
powers' stand concerning Ceku and his supporters, or that these powers
decided to no longer support a lost cause. RADOR
