Presidential counsellor Dorin Marian said in an intervew with RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI that the priorities on the agenda of the National DefenRe
Council were the further reform and renewal of the Defense and Interior
Ministries and of the information and protection services, as well as an
analysis of their activity every three months. RADOR
[02] Meeting of the Leading, Coordination and Control Bureau of PNTCD
The leaders of the National Peasants Christian-Democratic Party could not
decide whether the Standing Delegation summoned on January 28-30 would
choose a new Leading Bureau or would just fill the vacancies. At the end of
the meeting, PNTCD president Ion Diaconescu, quoted by RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI, said the votes of the Bureau members were equally shared
between the two options. PNTCD supports the candidature of the party vice-
president Ulm Spineanu as chairman of the Senate, considering the prime
minister is no longer member of this party. To this purpose, BCCC will make
all efforts to convince the senators belonging to the other parties in the
governing coalition to support this candidature. During the sameRmeeting on
Wednesday, BCCC suspended the mayor of sector 4, Marin Lutu during the
legal investigations he is subject to, and excluded from the party the
counsellors who did not resign from the board of the company that gained
the auction in view of privatizing the markets in sector 4. RADOR
[03] Statements Made by the ANCD Leader Victor Ciorbea
The National Christian-Democratic Alliance considers that, by nominating
Mugur Isarescu as prime minister, PNTCD and president Emil Constantinescu
surrendered to its partners in the governing coalition and to the
oposition. During a press conference of Wednesday, Victor Ciorbea said that,
at the moment, PD leader Petre Roman was the power within the Government,
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. Victor Ciorbea also said his party would
no longer attend the meetings organized by the Civic Alliance, as part of
the right wing and centre-right wing parties taking part in these meetings
keep on accepting compromises with the anti-reform forcesR RADOR
[04] Future Cooperation Between the National Liberal Party and the
Moldavians Party
The National Liberal Party and the Moldavians Party decided to run together
in the local elections, and to establish a further cooperation, either by
merger of within the Democratic Convention - PNL vice-president Valeriu
Stoica said after the discussions with Constantin Simirad, leader of the
Moldavians Party. Valeriu Stoica, quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, also
said the two parties would support Emil Constantinescu's candidature in the
future parliamentary elections. RADOR
[05] Romania Will Take Over 51% of the Shares Held by the Moldovan Oil
Company TIREX
Eugen Stopac, economy and reform minister in the Moldovan Government
appologized on Wednesday for the delay in handing over 51% of the shares
held by TIREX, as part of the over 22 million dollars debt to the Romanian
suppliers of electricity. Eugen Stopac added, according to RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI, the draft contract for thR handing over of these shares would
be worded till the next Government meeting. Simultaneously, the Romanian
National Oil Company PETROM stopped the negotiations with TIREX until the
latter settled its financial problems. The Moldovan company is endebt not
only to Romania, but to other countries as well, and has guaranteed loans
with its assets. RADOR
[06] Envisaged Network of Romanian Americans Businessmen
The Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Mihai Dobre told the press on
Wednesday that on Saturday, January 15, a conference would be summoned in
Washington in view of creating the network of Romanian Americans
businessmen. RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reveals that the envisaged network
aims at helping Romania's economic recovery, and at fostering the relations
between the US and Canada on the one hand, and Romania on the other. The
organizers of the mentioned conference are Romania's Presidency, the
Romanian and US Governments, and the World Bank. The conference will gather
240 buRinessmen belonging to the Romanian communities in Canada and the US,
Romania's ambassadors to Canada and the USA, and the American ambassador to
Bucharest. RADOR
[07] The IMF Negotiators Discussed with Officials in the Labour and Social
Protection Ministry
The team of negotiators of the International Monetary Fund, headed by the
chief negotiator for Romania Emanuel Zervoudakis, discussed with officials
in the Labour and Social Protection Ministry about the social protection
allowances, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI informs. RADOR
[08] Creation of the Development Agency "Bucharest 2000"
The mayor of Bucharest Viorel Lis and the representatives of the share-
holders in the Development Agency "Bucharest 2000" signed on Wednesday the
legal act by which the agency was created, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI
informs. The agency aims to develop the 485 hectars area in the centre of
Bucharest from the economic and town-planning points of view. The first
investments will be made in five projectsR including office-buildings,
shops, hotels, apartment buildings and parks. According to mayor Viorel Lis,
the building works will start in February 2001, and they will cost 300
million dollars per year for at least 20 years. RADOR
[09] Objectives of the Romanian Foreign Policy
Romanian president Emil Constantinescu discussed on Wednesday with foreign
affairs minister Petre Roman about the objectives of the country's foreign
policy. According to a press release quoted by RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI,
during the several hours discussions the two focused on the steps to be
taken in order to join the European Union, especially in view of starting
negotiations in February. President Emil Constantinescu stressed the
importance of an efficient coordination between the Presidency and the
Foreign Affairs Ministry. The head of state and the head of Romanian
diplomacy also discussed about the role and concrete actions Romania would
take within the OSCE, as member of the Organization's leadershRp and future
