[01] Statements Made by PNTCD Vice-President Remus Opris
PNTCD vice-president Remus Opris said during a press conference at Satu
Mare that the Standing Delegation meeting at the end of the month would
change the party leadership and would determine the strategy for the
elections this year. Another vice-president of the National Peasants
Christian-Democratic Party, Vasile Lupu, quoted by RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI, said the party needed a revision of its structures. RADOR
[02] PUR Will Join the Humanitarian International
Loredana Cicci, president of the Humanitarian International, expressed
during a press conference on Sunday her hope the Romanian Humanitarian
Party would soond become the 43rd member of the International. According to
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, the decision in this respect would be taken at
the Congress in Rio de Janeiro. RADOR
[03] The Budget Deficit Might Be Kept Within the Estimated Limits
Prime minister Mugur Isarescu and finance minister Decebal Traian Remes
consider the budget deficit might be kept within the estimated limits, even
after the implementation of the tax reform, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI
informs. During a meeting with the specialists in charge with the
implementation of this reform, the two stressed the importance of
controllin tax evasion, smuggling and fraud. RADOR
[04] Partnership Between Citi Bank and the State Reserves
Citi Bank Romania and the State Reserves have concluded a partnership in
view of improving the logistical basis of the financial flows in and out
the territorial treasuries. According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI, the
payments made by public institutions and private companies would be
connected in real time to the state budget. RADOR
[05] Public Debt Amount
This year, Romania must pay 1.45 billion dollars of foreign debts.
According to the estimates made by the Finance Ministry, 300 million
dollars are to be payed in February, and another 100 million in the next
months. Officials from the Finance Ministry, quoted by RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI, estimated the amount of the internal public debt would reach
23,000 billion lei by the end of 2000. RADOR
[06] The Exchange Market at the Beginning of the Year
At the beginning of 2000 the exchange market was quite calm, the exchange
rate leu-dollar being of 18,275-18,300 lei per US dollar, RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI informs. The marketing director of the Romanian Stock Market
considers the latest evolutions in economy will maintain the ascending
trend of this rate exchange. RADOR
[07] ARO Asks for Postponing the Application of EURO 2 Rules
The managers from ARO in Campulung asked the Transports Ministry to
postpone the application of the EURO 2 rules by six months, ROMANIAN TV
reports. The managers say the postponing is necessary in order to be able
to produce a new engine answering the antipollution rules. The engine would
be entirely produced in Campulung with imported components. RADOR
[08] Statistical Data Concerning Buildings
A communique released by the National Statistics Commission and quoted by
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI mentions that over 13,000 apartments were built
during the first nine months of last year, most of them financed from
private funds. The greatest number of apartments were built in Bucharest
and in the counties of Suceava, Constanta and Dambovita. Another 23,000
apartments were being built during the same period, and over half of them
were financed from state subsidies. RADOR
