  • [01] Group of Popular initiative within the PNTCD after PM Vasile was dismissed

    The Parliamentarians Club of the Palace of the Romanian Parliament hosted the meeting of the outgoing Prime Minister with the people that support him. On this occasion Vasile announced the setting up of a group of reflection within the Christian Democratic National Peasants Party under the title of PNTCD GROUP OF POPULAR INITIATIVE. The group pursues the strengthening of the unity of the Party. Vasile also said that the statutes of the party were dissobeyed and a number of illegal actions took place. The next meeting of the group takes place tomorrow.

    The President of PNTCD Ion Diaconescu announces that outgoing prime minister Vasile had to go as he did not communicate any longer with his own party and with the Cabinet Ministers that his party supported; likewise he ceased communicating with the Presidency of Romania and that the decision to dismiss Vasile had been outstanding for some time now but it was adjourned to be implemented after the Helsinki summit. The revoked prime minister was also accused of having caused political instability and confusion inside his own party by the fact that he encouraged various groups and groupings. In as far as the election of the new Prime Minister is concerned Mr. Ion Diaconescu mentioned four people: Mircea Ciumara, Ulm Spineanu,Constantin Dudu Ionescu and Radu Sarbu. A new PM will be designated by the steering body of PNTCD which is the Bureau of Coordination, Leadership and Control of the Party. RADOR

    [02] First Cabinet session led by the interim PM

    Tuesday the caretaker Cabinet made up of outgoing ministers and having Alexandru Athanasiu interim Prime Minister had a first sessiion during which it was established that no major decisions are to be adopted. Cabinet ordinary rezolutions are to passed, primarily of an administrative nature. RADOR

    [03] Members of the ALFA Cartel are not allowed to unfold political activity

    Bogdan Hossu who is the President of the ALFA national Trade Union federation said that it was decided the members of the leadership of the ALFA Cartel are not allowed to unfold any political activity. During the same press conference trade union leader Hossu said the present Labor Code of the Miinistry of Labor and Social Protection is an anti-trade union and ultra liberal document and hence countervenes the interests of the best part of employees, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports.     [04] The second instalment of the IMF loan to Romania depends on political developments in this country

    The International Monetary Fund has not yet released the second instalment of the loan totally worth 547 million USD as it depends on the political developments in Romania in the following interval. The first instalment had already been transferred into the account of the Romanian National Bank and the second instalment is worth 200 million USD. Romania's representative to the International Monetary Fund, Ioan Dragulin, confirmed that the Fund experts had asked for some more clarifications from Bucharest and they are simply waiting to start negociating with the newly appointed Cabinet members.     [05] Romanian - Greek collaboration in the military domain

    Heads of the Joint chiefs of staff of the Romanian and Greek armies agreed in Bucharest on Tuesday that the Pact of stability in south eastern Europe must also have a military dimension. This asks for the strengthening of the multinational peace force in the South Eastern area of the continent by a more rapid making operational of the Balkan brigade and the creation of the army corps engineers force as decided in Bucharest on 30 November 1999. General Constantin Degeratu said this unit could be used in case of a natural or industrial disaster or for the reconstruction of affected areas. RADOR

    [06] Nifon is the new Targoviste Archbishop

    Romanian Orthodox Church Elective College decided on Tuesday that the new Bishop of Tragoviste is Nifon after the death of Vasile Costin, informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. RADOR
