[01] President pays respects to Yehudi Menuhin's family
The Romanian President Emil Constantinescu has paid his respects to the
family of the violin player Yehudi Menuhin who died aged 82 in Berlin on
Friday following a heart attack. In his message President Constantinescu
says Lord Menuhin was not only a great musician but also a defender of
human rights , understanding and peace and a great friend of Romania.

[02] Comemorations of the Romanian revolution in Transylvanian
There heve been comemorations of the defeat of the 1848-1849 Romanian
Transylvanian revolution in the village of Sarmasul de Campie. The same day
they also comemorated 55 years since the masacres of the local population
by horthyst-fascist troops. On Sunday, during the Holy Cross festival the
local priest and five priests of neighboring villages performed a religious
service and they inaugurated 20 roadside crucifixes. RADOR, March 15
[03] Comemorations of the Hungarian revolution in Transylvania
On the eve of celebrating 150 years since the end of the Hungarian
revolution in Transylvania, there have been comemorations in the towns of
Iernut and Abuj Tarnaveni. Leaders of the Romanian Hungarians' Democratic
Union, representatives of Reformed and Unitarian churches and
representatives of cultural foundations have laid flowers and addressed
speeches at monuments built in memory of the heroes of the Hungarian
revolution in Transylvania. RADOR, March 15
[04] General Assembly of the ethnic Romanian Self-Government in Hungary
53 representatives of the ethnic Romanian minority in Hungary have gathered
in the Hungarian city of Gyula for the General Assembly of the ethnic
Romanian Self-Government in Hungary. They have elected Traina Cristea from
the town of Bataniaas president of the Union. While at the meeting with
representatives of the ethnic minorities in the country, the Hungarian
Prime-Minister Victor Orban expressed responsivity to solving the unwanted
situation to which the ethnic Romanian minority was confronted. RADOR,

[05] Presidential pardon
According to a communique released by the Romanian Presidecy, President
Constantinescu has signed a decree on pardoning crimes by several
individual persons. Some charges in the list are: driving without licence,
miscompliance to court orders, abuse in office, forgery of official
documents, violation of customs regulations and abusive border trespassing,
theft, robbery, violation of arms and weapons regulations, physical
injuries, and murder. RADOR, March 15
[06] Communique released by the Alliance for Romania party
The Alliance for Romania party has released a communique saying that the
party was welcoming the decisions by the National Council of the Social
Democratic Party (SDP) as they are a confirmation of the SDP's willingness
to merge with AfR. The AfR said it had not given up its request for the new
party resulted to be in opposition. The AfR said it would examine the terms
of the merging agreement set up by the negotiating commissions. RADOR,
