DISCONTINUED: M.I.C. News Bulletins from the FYROM

Macedonian Information Centre Directory

From: "News distribution manager" <dist@hri.org>

HR-Net Notice, 96-03-05

As of today, the "Macedonian Information Centre" (M.I.C.) in Skopje, FYROM has discontinued the free distribution of its daily bulletin in English.

Since HR-Net distributes only freely available information, and does not charge its users, we can no longer retransmit the MIC bulletins.

This leaves only the "Macedonian Information Liaison Service" (M.I.L.S.) as a means of monitoring developments in the FYROM in English.

Following is the notice circulated by MIC over the past few days, which includes contact information for those who may wish to buy their publication.

On behalf of the HR-Net Group,

Demetrios E. Paneras

To all subscribers,

Allow me to inform You that the Macedonian Information Center (MIC) starting from 5th of March is no longer able to distribute the English version of its general daily service INFOMAC via E- mail to the MAK NEWS subscribers' list.

The reasons for this are neither of a political nor any other nature, but simply - financial. At the beginning of our existence, with the establishment of the MIC and World Macedonian Congress offices in Skopje, which grew in parallel with the independence of the Republic of Macedonia, we felt it was necessary to keep the world informed about our independent and sovereign state.

The time has come when we feel it is necessary to place professionalism in the forefront, and to replace enthusiasm by a serious work approach - to produce the news with top professionalism, to speed up distribution, and to establish various analytical issues, as well as issues dealing with business and economy. The interest in this, judging bu the message we receive every day, following the lifting of the two embargoes (Greece and Yugoslavia) has grown rapidly.

Therefore, we will have to gradually adapt to the principles of market economy, due to the fact that in the last 12 months, we have been forced to sustain the Macedonian Information Center independently, in which we are succeeding. However, in view of the fact that MIC and the World Macedonian Congress will be moving to new offices from March 1, this year, and that following this move, our working costs will increase 20 percent, we are forced to face reality and to take this unpopular measure.

Still, not everything is lost. All those who wish to continue receiving the daily INFOMAC service on their E-mail address are invited to contact our E-mail address: mic@itl.mk or to contact us on one of our telephone no.: + 389 91 221 842, + 389 91 117 876, +389 91 117 834 so as to receive information in relation to subscription, manner of payment and service prices.

As of March 1, our Skopje address will be the following:

Macedonian Information Center
Elisie Popovski 10/22
91 000 Skopje
Republic of Macedonia

We hope this change will be met with understanding and that we can look forward to successful cooperation in the future.

Sincerely,
Vladimir Petreski
MIC - Manager
