[01] THE ONLY PLATFORM FOR KOSOVA ALBANIANS WILL BE INDEPENDENCEPrishtina, 2 April (KIC) - The Independence of Kosova will be the platform to be presented by the Albanians at the meeting with the Serbs between April 7 and 9 in New York.This is the result of last night's consultations with Albanianrepresentatives of Kosova invited at the New York round table, devoted to the Kosova issue and organized by Project on Ethic Relations /PER/. Also invited at this round table is the Academician Mark Krasniqi, chairman of the Albanian Christian-Democratic Party of Kosova. [02] PRESIDENT RUGOVA RECEIVED THE SPANISH AMBASSADORPrishtina, 3 April (KIC) - President of the Republic of Kosova, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, received today in Prishtina Mr. Hoakim Peres Gomes, ambassador of Spain in Belgrade.Dr. Rugova briefed Gomes on the overall situation in Kosova and on thestruggle of the people of Kosova and its leadership towards a peaceful solution of the Kosova issue. Independent and neutral Kosova would be the best solution for bothAlbanians and Serbs, said Rugova. Mr. Gomes expressed the concern of his government for the gravesituation in Kosova and in Albania. [03] PRESIDENT RUGOVA RECEIVED U.S. EMBASSY OFFICIALSPrishtina, 2 April (KIC) - President of the Republic of Kosova Dr. Ibrahim Rugova received today Mr. Jack M. Zetkulic, Deputy Chief of Mission in the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Mr. Nicholas Hill, Second Secretary, and Mr. Michael McClellan, Director of the USIA Center in Prishtina. During a cordial meeting President Rugova and the U.S. exchanged views on the current situation in Kosova and developments in the region, focussing on Albania.Dr. Rugova emphasized the efforts the people of Kosova and itsleadership have been making to see a peaceful settlement to the Kosova issue, pursuant to the expressed political will of the people. The Belgrade-based U.S Embassy officials spoke of the continued concern of the U.S. administration over the conditions in Kosova. The United States determination to encourage a peaceful and acceptable settlement to the Kosova issue was reconfirmed during the meeting. [04] DEMAÇI RECEIVED U.S. EMBASSY OFFICIALSPrishtina, 3 April (KIC) - Chairman of the Parliamentary Party of Kosova, Adem Demaçi, received today Mr. Jack M. Zetkulic, Deputy Chief of Mission in the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Mr. Nicholas Hill, Second Secretary, and Mr. Michael McClellan, Director of the USIA Center in Prishtina. During the meeting views on the current situation in Kosova and Albania were discussed.Mr. Demaçi briefed the US diplomats on the efforts the people ofKosova and its leadership towards a peaceful settlement to the Kosova problem, but expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of support of the International community and the US as well. "Not supporting our struggle for indepence can bring to a tragedy with bloody consequences...We will have to make you and the others understand this', said Mr. Demaçi, replying to the US diplomats that the International Community does not support the independence of Kosova. [05] DEMAÇI'S "BALKANIA" GAINES SUPPORT WITHIN PPKPrishtina, 1 April (KIC) - Adem Demaçi, chairman of the Parliamentary Party of Kosova (PPK) a short while ago made public his concept on the so-called "Ballkania", a confederal arrangement that would include Kosova, Serbia and Montenegro. Ten days ago, the Serbian Nasa Borba daily carried the concept, laid down in fifteen points.'Private plan', 'personal initiative in contravention to the politicalwill of the people of Kosova, expressed in the 1991 referendum, in which full independence and sovereignty was opted for', were comments of some politicians in Kosova. "Ballkania" means independence for Kosova the Presidium of the PPKsaid during a meeting yesterday, adding that the project of Mr. Demaçi "is in the spirit of the program of the PPK", and it does not contravene the Referendum on independence, either, for "independence is in its essence". The New York City round-table meeting of Albanians and Serbs thiscoming week-end will perhaps be the first test of the Ballkania concept. LDK and PSHDK representatives have said independence of Kosova, pursuant to the 1991 referendum, will be their unchanged position. [06] "EVERYTHING IS O.K. WITH ALBANIAN-LANGUAGE MEDIA", SERB OFFICIAL SAYSPrishtina, 2 April (KIC) - According to the Serb-installed Secretary for Information in Kosova, Bosko Drobnjak, everything is O.K. with the Albanian-language media in Kosova.Mr.Drobnjak told the Serbian Nasa Borba daily the resumption of thepublication of the "Rilindja" daily, banned by the Serb regime in 1990, is imminent. "When enough journalists, members of the Albanian national minority,come up", the Rilindja newspaper will reappear, Mr. Drobnjak said, having in mind Albanians wishing to collaborate with the Serbian regime. Rilindja was banned and closed down in August 1990, after 45 years ofexistence. The Radio and Television of Prishtina (RTP) broadcasting in Albanian was closed down with a Serb police 'blitz-krieg' in early July 1990, kicking hundreds of Albanian journalists and other media workers out of their jobs. Speaking about the Education Accord, Drobnjak said that "sovereignty and legitimacy of Serbia" over Kosova will be the guiding principles in the discussions on the implementation of the accord, implying that the Serbian regime wants to legalize its 'fait accompli' state of affairs in Kosova, namely Serbian occupation. [07] "MOTHER THERESA" MARKS 6th ANNIVERSARYPrishtina, 1 April (KIC) - The major Kosova humanitarian and charitable association "Mother Teresa" has a network of 80 small clinics all over Kosova, the association's director Jak Mita said Monday during a convention marking the 6th anniversary of the establishment of health care service of the association. Mr. Mita said over 350 doctors and 500 nurses have been actually working either part or full time with the "Mother Teresa" clinics. Virtually the entire personnel works on voluntary basis and free of charge.The "Mother Teresa" director expressed appreciations to all domesticand international organizations for the assistance and support provided in maintaining the network to the health care centers in Kosova. In the wake of the Serbian crack-down on Kosova in 1990, the entirepublic health care system was mercilessly ruined. The majority of the Albanian health care personnel, including highly qualified doctors, was dismissed by the Serbian regime, mainly on ethnic grounds. [08] SERBIAN STATE TERROR IN KOSOVA CONTINUESPrishtina, 1 April - Lul&zim Peci, a researcher with the Center for International Studies (CIS) of Democratic League of Kosova was held for over three hours in the Serbian police custody in Prishtina Tuesday.Lul&zim Peci told KIC that he was held at the Serbian police stationfrom 10 to 13:30. He was interrogated about the CIS activities. Lul&zim Peci was likewise held in a six-hour police detention last year. Prishtina, 2 April- Jusuf Hykaj, chairman of the LDK branch at Sllatina (Fushë- Kosova), was detained by the Serbian police on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Mr. Hykaj told KIC he was initially ordered to report at the Serbian police station in Fushë-Kosova in connection with a revolver he has been denying being in possession of. On both occasions he was questioned about the activity of political parties, humanitarian and human rights associations, as well as about the Albanian-language education process in the area. Prishtina, 3 April - A Serb police expedition raided the Aliu family in Pacaj near Gjakova, albanian sources inform. The expedition told Aliu family they were searching for weapons. Although no weapons were found, the Serbian police demolished the entire furniture and took Shuprim Aliu, Shkëlzen Aliu (18), Bekim Aliu (18) and Sami Idrizi (19). The four of them were severely beaten up at the local police station. Mr. Idrizi is reportedly still in Serb police custody.
