[03] IZETBEGOVIC: STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF THE ELECTION VICTORYSarajevo, Sept. 18, 1996 (Press TWRA)President of BH Presidency is Alija Izetbegovic, who has succeeded in maintaining the position after the latest elections owing to the fact he was given the highest number of votes, following the proclamation of the final and unofficial results ( a 72-hour-period should still expire) of the elections for the BH presidency which showed that the BH Presideny is going to be composed of three members: Alija Izetbegovic (President) and Momcilo Krajisnik and Kresimir Zubak (members).Robert Frowick stated OESC Mission made a final decision, on thebasis of the legal advice of their Constitution- expert, there would be no rotation in the BH Presidency in the next two years or, more precisely, Alija Izetbegovic would remain inalterably on the leading position for the next two years. Follows the statement of President Izetbegovic: 'The results of the elections, proclaimed today, show I have beenappointed, by the highest number of votes, President of the future BH Presidency. I would like to express thankfulness to all citizens who voted for me, completely aware of the responsibility imposed by this nomination. I would like to repeat one more time my political aims. In theshortest terms, they are: integration of BH and justice. Proclamation of the results confirmed my doubts, expressed onSeptember 14, 1996, immediately after the closing of the polling- stations, regarding the regularity of the elections in the BH serb- controlled area. The similar doubts were also expressed by many other political parties and proven by numerous facts. It is obvious an artificial (and illegal) depravation of the right of vote to many voters in BH Federation took place. Many information coming from the different areas confirm the doubts on the obvious irregularities that were possible due to the lack of the elementary conditions for democratic and fair elections. Moreover, all voting-boards in the Serb entity were composed only by Serb members, even by members of just one Serb party. Our and world public should be familiar with these facts. We deposited our complaints and many are still to be sent in the next72 hours. I expect re-examining of the voters' lists in the BH Serb entity as well as renewing of the voting in majority of the polling-stations situated there.' President Izetbegovic also pointed out the BH Presidency sessionswould take place in Sarajevo and only in Sarajevo, which was the response on a semi-official speculations claiming some of the sessions would be held outside Sarajevo, even in Pale. Sarajevo is and remains the BH capital, Izetbegovic pointed out. When asked about the possible time of the first BH Presidency sessionand conditions for its holding, Izetbegovic answered the constituting session of the BH Presideny can be held when Momcilo Krajisnik makes a vow on the basis of the BH Constitution, which he is obliged to do, as a member of the highest state body. When asked about the possible renewing of the conflicts, tensesituations and even war, owing to the leading positions of the national parties (SDA, SDS, HDZ), Izetbegovic answered: tWe were faced with different conditions and a different historic moment. The same things that were appropriate at that time are not the same any longerv. (end) A.S. Bosnia-Herzegovina News Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
