    VLORE, Dec. 3 (ATA) - By Harilla Koça: Albanian government accorded 17 million Leks to complete the lightening project of the southern city of Vlore, the spokesman of this town-hall reported to ATA.

    The spokesman said that the town-hall of this city aims at improving the road infrastructure, the drainage system, reconstruction of the network of the electric energy of the city and the lightening system.

    A few days ago was inaugurated the flower-garden near the headquarter of the town-hall, which was even equipped with a contemporary lightening system. The same work was carried out previously in the road which leads to the hospital of the city, in the road which connects the ring with the main "Vlore-Skele" boulevard and with the segment which joins the quarter "24 Maji" with the zone called "Kali i Trojes". /dast/A.A/

    -"Brojka: How I defeated DP". Accused some days ago as a nostalgic follower of Enver Hoxha, and even threatened that his resignation would be demanded soon, the head of Tirane town-hall, Albert Brojka at the end managed to vanquished DP stand. -"Meta starts the day with Brojka: When will the roads of Tirane be regulated?". The Premier Ilir Meta met on Friday morning with the mayor of Tirane town-hall and is interested in general on the funds accorded on improvement of the capital infrastructure. -"Meidani: The corrupted lowers will be removed". The President of the Republic, Rexhep Meidani revealed on Friday during the National Legal Conference that "the justice system is one of the most critical issues of Albania society".

    [05] GDP production covers 34% of exports for January-October period

    TIRANE, Dec 4 (ATA)- By Dorian Koca, The gross domestic production covers 34% of the Albanian exports during the last 10 months of 1999.

    According to the official data issued by the General Department of Customs, during this period have been exported goods worth 31,402 billiard leks.

    Some 10,704 billiard leks in goods, out of this sum, have been exported from the gross production, making up 34% of the total exports. While goods of active processing make up the other part of the exports 20, 698 billiard leks or 66%.

    Gross domestic production covers nearly 42% of Albanian total exports during 1998. During the last year have been exported goods worth 31,138 billiard leks.

    Some 12,964 billiard leks out of this sum have been exported from the Albanian GDP. Export ciphers 1998 - 1999 (in billiard leks)

    [06] Sport:"Studenti A" women and "Teuta" men - national Champion in ping- pong

    DURRES, Dec 4 (ATA)- By Gezim Kabashi, The National Championship of ping-pong ended in Durres on Friday.

    The best national teams in ping-pong for women and men played for three days in the games hall of the "Ramazan Njala" Sport Palace.

    After 60 matches among 48 teams participant in the championship, "Studenti A" for women, coach Sabaudin Gazheli, was classified in the first place. Follow "Studenti B", "Teuta", "Elbasani", "Tomori" and "Mati".

    "Teuta" for men, coach Musa Terniqi, was classified in the first place. Follow "Studenti", Elbasani", "Mati", "Tomorri" and "Flamurtari". /dast/so/

    [07] Guardia di Finanza to finance repair Albanian border police speedboats

    DURRES, Dec 4 (ATA)-By S. Gjordeni, Guardia di Fianza in Durres will provide 350 million lire for repairing the speedboats of the border police and rehabilitate the police station of this region, the prefecture police director, Albert Pilo, reported on Saturday.

    "With representatives of the seaport we have discussed the materialisation of this fund as soon as possible to increase readiness of the border police speedboats not only of Durres but also of other coastal districts," he said.

    Only in the last three months the border police, in cooperation with Guardia di Finanza, have intercepted and sequestrated 26 speed boats. /dast/lm/

    [08] Rehabilitation of aqueduct of Korce to start soon

    KORCE, Dec. 4 (ata) - By B Fejzullai: The work for the rehabilitation of the aqueduct of Korce will start in January 2000, said the deputy mayor of Korce, Nuci Tanco.

    The fund of 24 million DM by the German Government will be used for the construction of the pumping station in Turan, 4 km from Korce, two water reservoirs with a capacity of 3 thousand cubic meters of water and the main pipelines in a distance of 4 km and 95 per cent of the international tubes will be replaced.

    The application of this project alos envisages the installation of electric meters in every house, private subject or institution with the aim of eliminating abuses with water.

    The work for the rehabilitation will be made by an Italian firm, winner of the tender, and will be over 18 months time from the day it starts. /lh/xh/

    [09] National Guard effective to guard Council of Ministers building

    TIRANE, dec. 4 (ata) - By Enkelejda Koraqi: The effective of the National Guard will from now on guard the building of the Council of Ministers.

    The ceremony for the new task of the National Guard was held on Saturday during which the Commando troops handed over this task of the National Guard, by recommendation of the Prime Minister Ilir Meta.

    The National Guard consisting of soldiers, officers and noncommissioned officers trained by Italian and Turkish specialists and wearing the new military uniform, will be one of the pillars of the state institutions' security.

    After the events of the past September, by a special decision of the Parliament, commando troops and those of Military Police were used to secure the institutions of special importance such as the buildings of the Council of Ministers, Parliament, the Presidency of the Parliament., etc. /led/xh/

    [10] Volume of Albanian imports increased in October

    TIRANE, Dec. 4 (ata) - By Dorian Koca: During October, 1999, the imports for Albania have recorded a slight increase.

    According to data from the General Customs Department, the value of imports in October was 10,997 billion lek, thus registering an import volume for the ten months estimated at 137,497 billion lek. The volume of imports in October 1999 increased in the amount of 3 per cent compared with October 1998, as a result the growth of taxed imports in the amount of 8, 029 billion lek or 73 per cent. In the mean time, the untaxed imports for October 1999 is as high as 2, 968 billion lek, or 27 per cent.

    Compared with the ten month period of the past year, the value of imports during January-October 1999 has increased 34 per cent. Imports for the January-October, 1998 period has been 102, 252 billion lek.

    [11] Some 15.5 million dollars from World Bank to favour trade and transport in Albania

    TIRANE, Dec. 4 (ata) - By E Metaj: The World Bank has envisaged to implement in Albania a project estimated at 15.5 million dollars to favour trade and transport in this country, in support of the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe.

    A delegation of the World Bank which is visiting Albania made a short description of the project on Saturday to the Albanian Minister of Finance, Anastas Angjeli. The project with three main directions, aims to reduce the cost of trade and transport, contraband and corruption in border crossings, to consolidate the regional relations and to extend trade.

    The cost of the project will be about 15.5 million dollars of which 10.8 million are funded by the World Bank, 2.5 million by the Albanian party and the rest will be covered by other donors.

    The project is part of a broad regional project covering Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania and Turkey. The project prepared in the context of the Stability Pact, has been drafted in cooperation with the European Commission and the U.S. Government.

    In today's meeting with the representatives of the international financial institution, Minister Angjeli asked that the project must also cover the border point of Morine, of which the Albanian Government has a special interest.

    The preparation in time of all the necessary documentation will make possible that in February 2000, a comprehension agreement be signed in Skopje of Macedonia between the countries included in the project and the donors. /led/xh/

    [12] Albanian Army celebrates 87th anniversary of its creation

    TIRANE, Dec. 4 (ata) - By Enkelejda Koraqi: The Albanian Army celebrated on Saturday the 87th anniversary of its creation. The ceremony of commemoration of the national Army was held in the hall of the Cultural Centre of the Albanian Army in the presence of the President of the Republic, Rexhep Meidani and senior local and foreign militaries.

    The Minister of Defence, Luan Hajdaraga said in the ceremony that "the army, set up on the basis of the militant tradition, now aims to create a new contemporary physiognomy, implementing with priority the tasks for the realisation of the plan of action for Albania's membership in the NATO. 2000 will be the year of the cooperation in concrete training activities with the armies of NATO member and partner countries."

    The chief of the General Staff of the Army, Brigade General Aleks Andoni said that "December 4 is the official act of the founding of the Albanian national army. The creation of the Ministry of War led by Mehmet Pashe Derrala, also commander of the Armed Forces, in 1912 sanctioned the founding of the Albanian Army."

    The President and Commander of the Armed Forces of Albania, Rexhep Meidani accorded to 22 Albanian senior officers medals of honour, four of whom took the Golden Medal of Eagle, with the motivation of showing great devotion to their military duty and for the high sense of responsibility in overcoming the difficult situation Albania passed. The commemoration of the Albanian army founding was accompanied by a concert of the Wind Orchestra of the Army, a photo exhibition and a documentary film on Albanian armed forces. /xh/
