  • [01] Meta asks increase of WB projects in Albania

    TIRANE, Nov 14 (ATA)-Premier Ilir Meta on Saturday praised the performance of the World Bank (WB) for Albania, especially its great assistance in priority projects in Albania, the spokesman of Premier's press office reported on Sunday.

    At a working meeting with the WB director for Albania, Arnon Hartman, Meta spoke of the reforms undertaken in Albania and asked an increase and advancement of the WB projects.

    Hartman evaluated the road of reforms undertaken by the Albanian state. She expressed congratulations for passing the law in service of civil worker, which will help reform social sector and give a considerable impulse to the projects development.

    Hartman assured Meta of a greater support in the future and said that Albania's progress on the road of reforms and their promotion will be the sole guarantee for the future. /dast/lm/

    [02] President Meidani meets with Turkish Health Minister

    TIRANE, Nov 14 (ATA)-Albanian President Rexhep Meidani on Saturday had a separate meeting with Turkish Health Minister Osman Durmus, the President's press office told ATA.

    Meidani asked from the Turkish minister to convey to President Demirel, the Turkish people and State the most sincere condolences of the Albanian people, state as well as his own condolences to the families of the latest earthquake's victims.

    Later Meidani thanked the Turkish minister for the determination of Turkish institutions to continue their aid programmes for the Albanian people.

    Durmus thanked Meidani for the condolences and the support expressed and acquainted him with the agreements signed during his stay in Tirane with his Albanian counterpart.

    The Turks will help set up a centre of hemodialysis for the patients suffering from azotemia, bringing to 150 the number of the patients to be cured in Turkish hospitals each year, and train Albanian personnel in medicine and other fields. /dast/lm/

    [05] Durres will have complete support of Government - PM Meta

    DURRES, Nov. 14 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: Durres as the port of Corridor 8 will have the complete support of the Government, said Albanian Prime Minister, Ilir Meta, in a meeting that he had on Sunday in the prefecture with leaders of local government of Durres and Kruja.

    After Prefect, Martin Cukalla made a panorama of the situation of the prefecture, PM Meta expressed the satisfaction that he was making his first visit with local government authorities in Durres, and discussing problems which have to do with important priorities of this city.

    Later, PM Meta focused on the unpleasant situation of energy in the country. "We have set up working groups who will take all possible measures for the improvement of the situation and will be transparent with the people for this situation," he said.

    PM Meta spoke for other problems as well such as the incomes from taxes, the fight against corruption and contraband, on tourism, some achievements in that prefecture and the measures to be adopted to create the necessary tranquillity for powerful investments in Durres, etc.

    Meta said further on they had ratified the Convention on the Autonomy of the Local Government, which is the only road of democratization, good functioning of the state, decentralization, far from centralism noticed in some ministries.

    PM Meta Ilir Meta had on Sunday a working meeting also with senior officials in the police department of the prefecture of Durres.

    Premier Meta was accompanied in this visit by the Minister of Local Government, Bashkim Fino and Minister of Culture, Edi Rama. /lh/xh/

    [06] Memorial devoted to distinguished figures of art and culture inaugurated in Durres

    DURRES, Nov. 14 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: The memorial devoted to distinguished figures of art and culture and set up near the palace of culture A Moisiu, was inaugurated in Durres on Sunday.

    With the inauguration of this memorial, we convey the message of promotion of the cultural values of the city, said in his address the mayor of Durres, Arqile Gorreja.

    Attending the ceremony on this occasion were also the Albanian Prime Minister Ilir Meta, ministers Bashkim Fino, Edi Rama and Ingrid Shuli.

    PM Meta also visited the exhibition with 65 photos with views from the monuments of antiquity in that city, photos shot by Luan Jaupi, and which displayed in one of the halls of the palace of Culture A. Moisiu. /lh/xh/

    [07] Vau i Dejes establishes relations with Ulqin

    LAÇ, Nov. 14 (ata) - By M Malja: Leaders of the commune of Vau i Dejes in the districts of Shkoder and Ulqin in Montenegro, voiced on Sunday their desire and will to consolidate the cooperation between two communes in the fields of economy, tourism, culture, sport, etc.

    During a meeting held on Sunday in Hotel Rozafa, in the city of Shkoder, the leaders of these communes discussed the ways and forms of their cooperation.

    According to the Chairman of the commune of Vau i Dejes, Nard Ndoka, who is also deputy of the zone, local authorities must influence in the governments of their countries so that the border point of Hani i Hotit be opened, along with two other border points, one in Murriqan and the other in Vermosh. The opening of these border crossings, according to him, will influence in the increase of the trade and economic exchanges between the inhabitants on both sides of the border and in the development of these zones.

    Present in the meeting were also the chief of the commune of Ulqin, Skender Hoxha and the Minister for the Defence of the Rights of Minorities in Montenegro, Luigj Juncaj.

    Over the last three years, several exhibitions with paintings have been displayed in Shkoder and Ulqin, several presentations of books have been made and concerts performed in Ulqin by the theater cast Migjeni. Last week "Days of Ulqini Culture" were held in Shkoder. /lh/xh/

    [08] Reconstruction of six school buildings completed in Gjirokaster

    GJIROKASTER, Nov. 14 (ata) - By Sh Hajno: The reconstruction of six school buildings was over in the district of Gjiirokaster recently.

    According to the director of the district education department, Resul Llogo, a fund of 51 million lek was needed for the rehabilitation of the schools Naim Frasheri, Koto Hoxhi, Asim Zeneli, Bilal Golemi, of the 8th form school in Frashtan and the kindergarten in quarter Zinxhiria.

    Some 40 million lek from the above fund were paid by the state budget and the rest by Soros Foundation and non-governmental organisations TOLBA and CESVI operating in the region of Gjirokaster for several years.

    The reconstruction of these schools has made possible the creation of optimal conditions for the development of the didactic process, and work is also going on to provide more didactic instruments for their laboratories. /lh/xh/
