  • [01] New chairmanship of Socialist Party of Albania elected

    TIRANE, oct. 24 (ata) - By E Nepravishta: The new chairmanship of the Socialist Party of Albania consisting of 17 members, was elected on Saturday.

    From 31 members of the General Leading Committee who competed for the 12 seats of the presidency, after the counting of votes, the commission announced the following winners according to the votes: Spartak Poci, Pandeli Majko, Bashkim Fino, Gramoz Ruci, Makbule Çeco, Ilir meta, Arben Malaj, Ermelinda Meksi, Ethem Ruka, Limoz Dizdari, Ilir Zela and Bardhyl Agasi.

    Besides the 12 elected presidency members, the secretaries of the SP elected earlier on Saturday, namely Namik Dokle, Arta Dade, Petro Koci, Luan Rama and the SP Chairman Fatos Nano were added to the chairmanship automatically.

    From 119 KPD members, 114 took part in the voting for the SP chairmanship, the remaining five were absent, and 103 out of 114 votes were valid. /lh/xh/

    [02] Assets of powerholders to be published in Albania's Government bulletin

    TIRANE, Oct.24 (ata) - The assets of powerholders will be published in a Government bulletin, the Albanian Ministry of Information reported on Sunday.

    In line with the order of PM Majko for the publication of the assets of senior official of the executive power, the Ministry of Information will start, beginning from the coming Monday, the publication of this information in its daily Information Bulletin.

    In the publication will be included the assets of the senior officials beginning with those in the government cabinet, the leading staff in all ministries, the leading staff in the General Customs Department, the State Reserves Department, the Social Insurance Institute, the High Council of Justice, the National Information Service and of some prefectures. /lh/xh/

    [03] Marching by DP sympathizers on Deshmoret e Kombit boulevard was illegal

    TIRANE, Oct. 24 (ata) - By Th Thanasi: The police of Tirana considers illegal the marching of members and sympathizers of the Democratic Party of Albania on the Deshmoret e Kombit boulevard on Saturday noon.

    After the legal rally held on Saturday at noon in the Scanderbeg Square of the capital, the participants in the rally who represented the Union for Democracy Grouping, directed by their leaders, marched along the Deshnmoret e Kombit Boulevard.

    According to the spokesman of the Prefecture police department, and according to the law in force on rallies, their organizers should respect the place and time allowed only for the rally. /lh/xh/

    [04] Mavrovo firms resumes construction work on Librazhd-Qukes road segment

    LIBRAZHD, Oct. 24 (ata) - By M Lulja: The Macedonian firm Mavrovo, winner of the tender for the construction of the Librazhd-Qukes road segment, 21 km long, has started recently the work for the construction of this road, part of Corridor 8.

    The director of the firm, Kirco Zafirevski, said on Sunday that the delays for the resumption of the work had to do with the preparation of the supplementary documentation and the projects for works not envisaged before.

    According to him, with the solution of these problems, work has started intensively from kilometer 81 up to Qukes. Along this distance, 15 new bridges and a big protection wall will be constructed by the River Shkumbin in Dragostunje.

    The work on that road segment is expected to end within 2000. lh/xh/

    [05] 55th national chess championship being held in Tirane

    TIRANE, Oct. 24 (ata) - The 55th national chess championship started in Tirane with the participation of 44 best chess players of Albania.

    Among the winners on the first day of the championship were Seitaj, Karkanaqe, Sula, Omari, Adhami, Pustina, Koroveshi, Bicoku, Shabani, Keta, Pasku, etc.

    The championship will continue up to October 31st, 1999. /lh/xh/

    [06] Albanian Minister Shuli demands new finances from Bank of Europe for Investments (BEI)

    TIRANE, Oct. 24 (ata) - By Dorian Koca: The course of projects financed by the Bank of Europe for Investments and the bilateral efforts to be made to make the contractors accelerate works underway were in the center of the meeting that Albania's Minister of Public World and Transports, Ingrid Shuli, had with the Director of the Bank of Europe for Investments in Central and Eastern Europe, Guido Bruch.

    Actually BEI is financing a part of the project for the port of Durres, the Sukth-Durres and Rrogozhine-Lushnje road segments.

    Further on, Ms Shuli asked from Mr Burch to increase the finance of his institution in Albania. Highlighting as a priority the financing of the projects for Corridor 8, a suggestion was made in the meeting for the financing of the road segments Fier-Vlore, Pogradec-Korce and Tepelene- Hormove. /lh/xh/

    [07] Stability and development need unification of entire people

    KORCE, Oct 24 (ATA)-By B. Fejzullai, Albanian President Rexhep Meidani on Sunday said that the stability and development of the country require the unification of the whole people without political distinction under the nation's flag.

    At a ceremony held in Korca on the 55th anniversary of its liberation Meidani highlighted the Korca people's war for the city's liberation.

    "Korca is and will take pride in the sacrifices and blood shed by its best sons and daughters," said Meidani.

    Dwelling on several problems facing the Albanian society and the whole Balkans, Meidani stressed that the stability of the region is made up of the stability of each country and whoever dares violate it, violates the future of the region and, as a result, also the future of Albania and its integration into Europe and Euro-Atlantic structures. /led/lm/

    [08] Meidani urges investments in Korca

    KORCA, Oct 24 (ATA)-By B. Fejzullai, Korca is a point of contact with the foreign world and through trade it manages to create powerful financial capitals that should be put into circulation, Albanian President Rexhep Meidani said on Sunday.

    At a meeting on Sunday with representatives of Korca district local government (Southeast Albania), Meidani asked a greater engagement in encouraging investments and business.

    The mayor of Korca, Dhionis Kotmilo, familiarised Meidani with the investments carried out by this municipality during 1999 for the rehabilitation of the city's infrastructure.

    As regards credits to be provided for businessmen, Meidani said that the legislative and financial basis to help the new businessmen has now been created in Albania. /led/lm/

    [09] Weather conditions cancel visit of General Ruth to Tirane

    TIRANE, Oct 12 (ATA)-Weather conditions annulled the visit of Major- general Robert Ruth, Commander of KFOR troops for Macedonia, Albania and Greece. His visit to Tirane had been scheduled for Monday.

    According to the press and information centre of the COMMZ(W), Communication Zone, West, the visit of Major General Robert Ruth, scheduled for Monday, October 25,1999, has been annulled for reasons of weather conditions.

    Meanwhil,e there is no report whether the visit will be made in the next days. /s.s/lm/

    [10] New project requires preservation of unique values of Butrint

    SARANDE, Oct 24 (ATA)-By Sh. Hajno, A new project, devoted to the preservation of the unique values of the ancient town of Butrint (south of Albania) is being applied by Butrint's administration and coordination office.

    Sources from this office reported on Sunday that around 30 students of architecture of landscape branches, from several British universities, in the context of project "National Park of Butrint in the eyes and mind of youths", have for several days visited the archaeological park of Butrint, which includes the antique town and its suburbs.

    The project, which has just begun, will continue by organised local and foreign groups. /led/lm/
