    KOHA JONE, Independent Daily - "Taivan: 800 million USD in exchange of diplomatic relations." One of five dragons of Asia wants to be engaged in the infrastructure of Albania. - "August, lost chance for disarmament." Within this month the law adopted by Albanian Parliament and decreed by President Meidani for the collection of all kinds of armament in the hands of Albanian, expires. - "UDB, has a finger in events of Tropoje." Agents of Yugoslav secret agency have exploited feuds to create chaos in Albania. - "'Cancer' of 12-year old girl which cost millions." A rare history which started with a carelessness of the Albanian doctor who had mistaken the medical card of the girl with that of another.

    GAZETA SHQIPTARE, daily independent -"Amnesties cause problems- Elbirt." Interview with number one of the World Bank in Albania, Carlos Elbirt. - "Tropoja, Majko will dismiss Klosi." Old conflict between PM Pandeli Majko and the chief of the National Information Service, Fatos Klosi starts for the third time. -"Albtransport, corruption with mobile phones." Staff of this enterprise denounce abuses of their chiefs.

    - "'Clinton' Plan for Albanian sky." A project of U.S. President for management of Albanian air space re-uncovered. The U.S. initiative dates back to May 1995, but was suspended following the unrest of 1997. - "Clinton comes this month - Poci." Public Order Minister makes clear his statement in an interview in the Albanian state-run television. - "Let socialists leave and a technocrat government come in stead- RP." This is what republicans declared yesterday before reporters.

    [02] Albanian Fund of Development (FSHZH) to finance for Saranda

    SARANDA, August 8 (ata) - By Sh Hajno: New projects that the Albanian Fond of Development (FSHZH) will finance in the district of Saranda for 2000-2001 have been discussed.

    The chairman of the district Council, Thoma Papagjika told ATA that during a working meeting of the director of FSHZH Maksi Papajorgji and some French specialists, they discussed problems related with new projects for the improvement of the infrastructure in the district.

    The FSHZH has financed several projects in the process of implementation for the region Saranda-Delvina. Among them are the rehabilitation of the boulevard in Sarande, the rehabilitation of the centre of Konispol, of the roads Coraj-Borsh and Palavli-Stjar-Delvine. /s.sh/xh/

    [03] First six railway coaches from Austria put to work in Albania

    DURRES, August 8 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: The first six railway coaches which arrived in Durres from Austria are now installed in some existing trains, said to ATA the general director of railways, Leonard Burnaci. He added that 39 other railway coaches, expected to arrive in Albania, will help improve the transport of passengers.

    The delivery was dictated by the situation in the railway sector, with passengers compartments not replaced with new ones during the past 15 years.

    Burnaci explained that the coaches will be paid with the money from 15 thousand tons of scrap that Austria will take on the basis of an agreement reached with it.

    The first contingent of coaches will be installed in seven trains and with the rest 39 expected to arrive, the railway sector will give the first signs of recovery, underscored Burnaci. He added that along with the rehabilitation of the communication between railway stations, within a short period of time the timber beams will be replaced as well. /s.sh/xh/

    [04] Projects of Durres city hall referral to sister relations with some Italian cities

    DURRES, August 8 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: The projects that the city- hall of Durres has signed with the city-halls of some Italian cities in the context of their sister relations, are in the process of implementation.

    The mayor of Durres, Arqile Gorrea told ATA that the projects aim to improve the economy, infrastructure, etc. In cooperation with the city of Bari, soon the project for the rehabilitation of the urban transport will be realised. To this end, he said, will contribute the installation of traffic lights, road traffic and electronic signs, etc.

    According to the agreement with the city-hall of San Benedeto, 50 fishing boats are expected to be produced in the city of Durres. The implementation of this project envisages new jobs for about 2 000 people, and in this context, also a school on fishing will be established, said Gorrea.

    The city-hall of Pescara has completed the project for the construction of sewage system, while that of Ancona will contribute to the consolidation of the work in the enterprise of cleaning in Durres. For the latter, the mayor of Durres said that it has been put on the right track and it will be added with a contingent of garbage-cans expected to be brought soon. Two vehicles for the transportation of garbage are also expected to arrive in Durres in the few coming days. /s.sh/xh/

    [05] Tourist agencies of inter-border region Sarande to meet soon

    SARANDE, August 8 (ata) - By Sh Hajno: The tourist offices of the inter-border region Sarande-Corfu-Igumenice will conduct working meetings in September in Sarande with analogous agencies in Southern Albania and the capital, the president of the chamber of commerce and industry in Sarande, Hasan Haxhi told ATA.

    According to him, the idea for institutionalized meetings between tourist agencies of the inter-border region was launched some days ago in Corfu and Igumenice (Greece,) where a delegation of the Committee for Development of Tourism of Albania, led by its chairman, Sherif Bundo, had working meetings there for the first time.

    The coming meetings are expected to discuss and decide the creation of joint tourist agencies, problems of investments in the field of tourism, etc. /lh/

    [06] Departure of German troops from Kucova Camp started

    Kucova, August 8 (ata) - By Enkelejda Koraqi - The contingent of German troops, located since 9 weeks in the cap set up in Kucova town, started to leave Albania.

    The main part of the contingent of some 560 soldiers, performed the humanitarian mission in Albania and will leave within August 14, reported the troops' spokesman Karl Leutschaft. A small part of them, mainly engineering, will stay a bit longer in Durres for logistic purposes, while the rest will move toward Kosova to continue its mission there, stated the spokesman.

    The aim of this German contingent in Albania was the performing of the humanitarian mission in support of AFOR to make possible the transport of Kosova refugees and in rehabilitation of some important road axes in different towns, such as, Berati, Lushnja and Fieri, stressed Leutschaft.

    [07] Tensions in Mitrovica go on

    Mitrovice, August 8 (ATA)- ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari reports that thousand Kosova Albanians marched even today toward the northern part of the town, from where Serbs have forcefully displaced them since five months and now they are creating various obstacles to hinder Kosovars return home.

    The Kosova Albanian marsh is stopped again by French forces, part of KFOR. There were again clashes between Kosova Albanians and Serbs, and even between French forces and Kosova Albanians, as well. No casualties are reported today.

    Kosova Albanians are protesting against the prohibition to return home and against Mitrovica division, by accusing even French forces for this purpose. One of Kosovars' requests is the dislocation of American troops in Mitrovica, as well. /Sh.Dha/linda/

    [08] The only Dropulli forest on fire

    Gjirokaster, August 8 (ATA) - By Hysni Cani - The only pine forest in Grapsh village of Dropulli commune is burned completely.

    The fire burned nearly 5-6 ha pine forests on Friday and Saturday. All Grapshi inhabitants did their utmost to extinguish the fire, but in vain, the fire, helped even by the afternoon wind was spread with great speed.

    In support of the inhabitants came the employees of fire protection unit of that district, who managed to stop it by not allowing to be spread in the village, reported the commander of fire protection unit, Major Lefter Qirici. /lh/linda/

    [09] 15% of policemen in Gjirokaster do not fulfill appropriate requirements

    Gjirokastra, August 8 (ATA) - By H.Cani - The organization sector of police commissariat goes on with testing the policemen, aiming at checking the way how the instructions in employing the blue uniforms are respected.

    This test, told ATA the spokesman of this commissariat has started since few days ago and from the current results 15% of the tested employees did not fulfill the necessary criteria.

    Beside the test, a check on family relation is performed. Referring to the current figures, 30 of the employed persons have family relation, by not forgetting to mention even the employment through the friendship or recommendations on political bias.

    These things had caused the blue uniforms to be presented by not suitable and skilled people, even physically. Policemen became the persons that came from villages and the one suspected for different crimes.

    The replacement of these people with skilled ones is one of the objectives of the directing staff of this commissariat. /lh/linda/

    [10] Fire cover Saranda green garland

    Saranda, August 8 (ata) - By Sh.Hajno - Two fires came out in Saranda green garland in Saturday evening, which continued till the first hours of Sunday morning.They caused the burning of all pine forest near quart no.1 of this town.

    At the same time some 30 ha pasture and forests are burned in Berdeneshi hills.

    Spokesman of district police commissariat told ATA that the fire was caused by the pasture burning of the shepherds, based upon the primitive tradition.

    But, according to the police sources, it is possible that the fire near Saranda town to be put intentionally to burn the pines to open construction sites.

    Saranda does not possess any anti-fire equipment after the troubles' 1997.This way the forest service enterprise did not manage to avoid the fire.

    It is confirmed that no denunciation about the authors of the several fire cases during the last days in Saranda region, is addressed to Saranda Court. /lh/linda/
