Interview with the former Parliament Speaker and member of DP presidency, Pjeter Arbnori. - "Greek police tortured us." Albanian takes hostage the whole bus." An Albanian took hostage a bus with eight passengers in it yesterday in Salonica of Greece. - "Our army shows its teeth on border." Big military exercise Drini i Bardhe - 99 ends in Kukes.

    [02] Albanian national who had taken hostage a bus with passengers in Greece, commits suicide

    TIRANE, May 29 (ata) - The Albanian national, Flamur Pisli, who one day before had taken hostage a bus with passengers in the Greek city of Salonica and was making to the Albanian border, committed suicide on Saturday in Krrabe, Elbasan district.

    Albanian police forces, said to ATA the police director of the Prefecture of Tirane, Mitat Havari, have accompanied the bus with hostages from the customs house of Kapshtice, where it entered late on Friday and up to Elbasan.

    Despite calls from police, Pisli did not surrender but continued his way to Tirane. At about 7 a.m. on Saturday, in the bends on the way up in Mount of Krrabe, in an ambush by special police in cooperation with police forces of Elbasan, Pisli killed a Greek passenger and wounded another Greek, then he killed himself. /led/xh/

    [03] Other shells of Serb artillery hit village Pogaj

    HAS, May 29 (ata) - By R Hoxha: Some Serb artillery shells hit village Pogaj, Has district, near Albania-Kosove border at 2 a.m. on Saturday. The spokesman of the Prefecture of Kukes, Emri Peca, told ATA that there are no reports of casualties and the people of the village have been evacuated deep in the country.

    Near village Pogaj on the Albania-Kosove border, fierce fighting has taken place recently between KLA fighters and the Serb army. In the zone of the commune of Prizren, KLA forces have put under control at least three villages near the border.

    In the past two days, Serb artillery have bombed from hills of Zhur and Vermice the zone of Gorozhup near village Pogaj. /pas/xh/

    [04] Newly-appointed Public Order Minister Spartak Poci takes oath before President Meidani

    TIRANE, May 29 (ata) - By U Bajrami: On Saturday morning the President of Albania, Rexhep Meidani, handed over to Mr Spartak Poci the decree for his appointment to the post of the Minister of Public Order.

    The press and information office close to the President said that Mr Meidani congratulated Mr Poci on his new task and difficult as a Minister and voiced the conviction that the achievements in that institution will be higher.

    "You are charged with a difficult duty," said Mr Meidani, "but the attention of the Albanian society and state is focused on the protection of the life of the individual and the establishment of full security in the daily life. The Ministry you will direct has already institutionalized very good relations of cooperation with MAPE and with states engaged in the growth of professionalism and efficiency in hitting crime," said President Meidani to the newly-appointed minister, asking from him further intensification of this cooperation.

    Minister Poci expressed his thanks for the faith in him and the support for the realisation of his new task. /pas/xh/

    [05] Premier of Interim Government of Kosove to visit London and Bonn

    TIRANE, May 29 (ata) - The Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Kosove, Hashim Thaci, will visit London and Bonn.

    The press and information department of the Albanian Foreign Ministry, which refers to diplomatic sources, said that "Mr Thaci will meet on Monday, May 31, in London with the British Foreign Minister, Cook, and a day after he will meet in Bonn with the German Foreign Minister, Fischer."

    The meetings of Mr Thaci in London and in Bonn, says the report, will be made at the invitation of the British and German foreign ministers. /dast/xh/

    [06] Free facilities and areas offered for refugees from Kosove and for needs of NATO troops

    DURRES, May 29 (ata) - By S Gjordeni: A meeting was held on Saturday morning in the prefecture of Durres with leaders of the enterprises of the city. The aim was that they offer free areas and facilities for the accommodation of the Kosove deportees, or for needs of the NATO troops operating in Durres.

    The prefect of Durres Martin Cukalla said these facilities and areas will be rented and reconstructed by international organizations.

    The leaders of the pesticides plant offered 4 thousand square meters of empty premises with infrastructure, those of the former plastics plant put at the disposal of this purpose 3 thousand square meters of storehouses and 4 thousand square meters as free areas. In addition to this, the former communication supply enterprise offered 1 500 square meters free site and 1 800 square meters in form of storehouses. The leaders of it recommended to put at the disposal of the prefecture of Elbasan 40 thousand square meters of sites which are under the administration of this enterprise. The leaders of the furniture factory offered 4 thousand square meters of free site while 4 thousand other square meters of free areas were offered by the leaders of the Art-Export enterprise. /pas/xh/

    [07] USD1 million for salaries of teachers in summer school

    TIRANE,,May 29 (ata) - By P Shuteriqi: A special fund of 1 million dollars will be used to pay the salaries of the teachers who will work in the summer schools for Kosova pupils to be opened in Albania in June, said on Saturday the Secretary General of the International Education Trade Union, Fred van Leeuwen, in a news conference held in Tirane.

    Leeuwen voiced his commitment in support of the project undertaken by the Albanian Ministry of Education and Science for the Kosova pupils in Albania so that they integrate in summer schools for the 1998-1999 academic year they had interrupted due to the war in Kosove.

    Minister Ruka said to reporters today in Europapark-Rogner in Tirane that the World Bank and UNHCR have procured nearly 1 million other dollars to meet the expenses for textbooks for the Kosova pupils accommodated in Albania.

    He forwarded a plan drafted by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with Foundation Soros for the construction and functioning of summer schools of the undergraduate system which are expected to be attended by 40 per cent of the Kosova deported pupils. /dast/xh/

    [08] Within this week 100 kiosks to be demolished

    Tirana, May 29 (ATA) - By Gezim Kabashi - Within this week the number of kiosks to be removed or demolished will reach to 100.

    The Chief of Construction Police of Durresi district Meritan Stari told ATA that after the removal of 49 kiosks on Monday action, 51 other kiosks will be removed or demolish on next Monday. So an area of 15.000 m2 in the second center of the town will be completely free to be used on the future projects of Local Government.

    Since the beginning of the year the Construction Police of Durresi district removed or demolished 63 kiosks near the environment of Durresi Court, "Niko Dovana" stadium, and near Telecom building.

    Eight other buildings construction illegaly in the town and its surroundings are demolished, as well./A.KE/linda/

    [09] Durres-Rrogozhine:The construction process to start even during the night

    - French supervising company Scateroute foresees its construction to Kavaja to be completed within September

    Tirana, MAY 29 (ata) - By D.Koça - The construction process in Durresi -Rrogozhine line, 22 km long and part of the eight corridor, are accelerating. For this aim the constructive company of this project, SAFA, thought of starting the operations even during the night hours.

    The joint company "SAFA", a joint venture between two companies, the Italian Falcione and the Greek Sarandopulos, has started the construction process of this section 38 km long in March 1998.

    At the moment it is working along the road Plepa-Kavaje section and the problems concerning the landowners are already settled. The value of the agricultural land varies from 800-3000 lek/m2.

    Meanwhile the construction company completed the enlarging of the road and it si intensively working even in Kavaja bypass and in the enlarging of the road at the entering point of Durresi Port Custom Office.

    French company Scateroute, which is supervising the construction process in this part of the road, is satisfied by the work done till now and define September as deadline of completion of the road part from Durresi to Kavaja.

    Rehabilitation of Durresi-Rrogozhina section marks a value of 20 million EURO and it is financed by PHARE Program. Its implementation started in January 1998 and will be completed within 24 months./a.gj./linda/

    [10] Changes "On Urbanization" law to enlarge foreign investments

    Tirana, May 29 (ATA) - By E.Metaj - The Albanian Government, in continuation of the measures on fulfilling and regulation concerning the urbanization, approved in its last meeting the project law " On a change in the law "On urbanization", aiming at further legislation developing to encourage the foreign investments.

    Based upon this project law, to be discussed finally at the Commission of the Albanian Parliament and after that in parliamentary session, all the constructions are permitted in every sort of the land, if no other alternative is possible, in order to favor the foreign investments.

    This change, which favors and stimulates the foreign investments in Albania is approved even in the meeting of the Council of Territory Adjustment of Albanian Republic.

    Another change in the project law, approved by the Albanian Government, is the one of the not paying the fee of construction permission in cases when the investments are financed by the state budget or foreign donors with grant or soft loans.

    Both changes suggested in the current law "On urbanization" aims at stimulating the foreign investments and facilitated the respective fulfillment procedures./a.gj/linda/

    [11] Albanian Government passed IDA's credit of 22,8 million dollars

    Tirana, May 29 (ATA) - By E.Metaj - Albanian Government in its last meeting passed the project law "On the approval of the agreement on credit developing between the Republic of Albania and International Development Association (IDA) on microcredit project".

    The Project, approved in this agreement, marks the value of 22,8 million dollars and is predicted to be used on increasing the investments in agricultural economy and on the developing of self employment in rural areas./a.gj/linda/

    [12] Meidani: Trying and sentencing Milosevic for crimes against humanity, direct contribution to establishing justice

    TIRANE, May 29 (ATA)-President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani has asked from the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic and the Head of the National Information Service to intensify work to gather documents and testimony to help the International War Crimes Tribunal sentence Slobodan Milosevic and his close collaborators as war criminals.

    At a meeting called on this issue, Meidani asked that, within the existing legal framework, the Albanian Prosecutor's Office and the National Information Office, not only should help the international prosecutors working in this direction, but also help that Albania, too, deposits at the Hague Tribunal an indictment against the Milosevic clique for the war human and material damages caused to Albania.

    For this purpose, President Meidani asked that work be carried out in all the camps of the Kosova war deportees and all possibilities be exploited to gather facts and estimate the damages caused to the Albanian economy and private property.

    "Milosevic's trial and sentence by the Hague Tribunal for crimes against humanity is a direct contribution to the establishment of human justice, to the alleviation of sufferings, mass murders, sexual violence and ethnic cleansing exercised by a dictatorial regime against a martired people, living in their own lands," he said. /dast/lm/

    [13] Some 200 Kosova deportees arrive at Qatrom camp

    KORCE, May 29 (ATA)- By B. Fejzullai, Some 200 Kosova deportees arrived at the Qatrom camp, Korce district on Saturday.

    Ferhard Fayoux, chief of the UNHCR office for this prefecture, told ATA that one day ago the newly arrivals had voluntarily left the Stankovec camp in Macedonia for Albania to join their families in the camp of Qatrom and in other reception centers of the Kosova deportees in this prefecture.

    Fayoux says that UNHCR is working to make possible the reunion of the separated Kosovar families.

    He said that in the last two weeks alone some 1400 Kosova deportees have joined their families.

    Some 13 000 Kosovar refugees have been accomodated in camps, families and other reception centres in the Korce prefecture. /dast/lm/

    [14] Republican Party hailed the decision of sending Milosevic before the Tribunal of the Hague

    Tirana, May 29 (ATA) - By A.Haxhiu - Republican Party in a press conference held on Saturday, hailed the decision of the Hague Tribunal, which defined finally the responsibilities and the ones to cause Kosova tragedy.

    This decision, said the Head of Republican Party Fatmir Mediu, is at the same time the best answer to all of them who consider Miloshevic as interlocutor on solution of Kosova crisis. Miloshevic caused all the problems and the negotiation or the solution that might be reached through him is not else just intruding of Kosova interests and conflict everlasting.

    Interim Thaci Government must use all Kosova intellectual capacity and to cooperate with Albanian institutions aiming at preparing a project for all emergency needs and Kosova prospect, added the Head of Republican Party, Mr.Mediu. /dast/linda/

    [15] AAA: Charge against Milosevic by the Hague tribunal, important process on the road to peace

    TIRANE, May 29 (ATA)-By E. Koraqi, The Albanian Atlantic Association (AAA) has hailed the decision of the International Court's prosecutor for war crimes in former Yugoslavia on whose basis Slobodan Milosevic and his close collaborators are accused of crimes against humanity and violation of the war laws and rules.

    A statement of this association says that the accusation against Yugoslav President Milosevic by the Hague Court is a significant process on the path of peace. Peace starts when justice begins to be established.

    The AAA, along with many associations, has contributed to the sensitization of the international opinion on signing a mass petition. Besides supporting NATO's military operations in Serbia, this petition asks from the International War Crimes Tribunal to bring an indictment against Milosevic as the main person responsible for the Serb crimes and genocide in Kosova. /dast/lm/

    [16] Serbs shell Cahan village

    HAS, May 29 (ATA)-By R. Hoxha,

    The Serb artillery on Saturday shelled the Cahan village, Has district, about 1 km near the Albanian state border.

    The spokesman of the district police commissariat told ATA that at 11.00 the Serb artillery began firing unexploded-mine spraying shells and the bombardment lasted for nearly 30 minutes. As a result, access to the Cahan village due to the risks posed by the explosion of these kind of shells has become difficult, he added.

    Over the last two months the Serb artillery has used unexploded mine- spraying shells also against the villages of Letaj, Dobrun and Pogaj of this district.

    Today afternoon, two Serb military planes flew over the villages of Pogaj, Kishaj and Domaj of this district and later left beyond the border. /s.sh/lm/
