[01] Killer of deputy chairman of voting commission in Kafer village, Elbasan, arrested

According to the chief of the commissariat, Gani Zeneli the assassination was made on November 22, 1998 on the day of the Referendum for the constitution of Albania, for personal motives by a resident of the same village.

At the beginning the event seemed to be a suicide on the part of Dervishi with a letter on his body, in which the victim allegedly explained the motives of the suicide, but it turned to be a letter written by the killer himself.

Zeneli added that the killer had declared to police the motives and the circumstances of the crime, according to whom, he had found the victim flirting with his wife.

On the referendum day when the crime was committed, the chairman and the deputy chairman of the district election commission and DP representatives stated to ATA the killing was not politically motivated, whereas later, DP representatives said it was a political crime. /dast/xh/

[02] President Meidani signs new Constitution of Republic of Albania

As was envisaged, the Head of the Albanian State carried out the act of the signing of the fundamental law of the Albanian state precisely today which is also the National Day for Albania. November 28 of 1998 will be marked in the history of the Albanian state as the day when the first democratic Constitution of Albania came into force.

The signing of the new Constitution by the President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani took place in a ceremony held in the headquarters of the President's Office. Attending the ceremony were the Parliament Speaker, Skender Gjinushi, the co-chairmen of the parliamentary commission which drafted the Constitution, Sabri Godo and Arben Imami, the OSCE Ambassador in Albania, Daan Everts and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Tirane, German Ambassador, Hans Piter Disdorn. /y.pa/xh/

[03] Constitution is the port opened for construction of Albanian state - Meidani

"I thought to share together this historic moment for the future of Albania," said Meidani addressing all the personalities present in the national event. On this occasion, the President of the Republic of Albania, expressed his thanks to all the members of the Parliamentary Commission for the Drafting of the Constitution and the international organizations which contributed to its drafting.

"The Constitution is the port opened to the construction of a normal Albanian state, a new democratic state and to realise the aspirations of the Albanians. All Albanians together, despite their political opinions and positions, must work to sacrifice to the benefit of their children, to the benefit of the national question," said Medani wishing those present: A Happy Independence Day and a happy day of the Constitution of the new Albanian State!

Attending the ceremony for the Constitution which took place in the headquarters of the Albanian President's Office were the Parliament Speaker, Skender Gjinushi, the two co-chairmen of the parliamentary commission which drafted the Constitution, Sabri Godo and Arben Imami, the OSCE Ambassador in Albania, Daan Everts, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Tirane, German Ambassador, Hans Piter Disdorn, deputies and members of the government. /s.s./xh/

[04] Two men circulating fake money arrested in Gjirokaster

According to sources of the Regional Police Department, its sector of crime uncovered about 100 thousand lek, in 5 000 banknotes, in the hands of two youngsters from Libohova. The above sources did not reveal the names of the detainees for investigation purposes.

During the operation for the arrest of the two men, who were caught red-handed, one of the man was slightly wounded by fire weapon in an effort to flee the scene.

A year ago, criminal police of Gjirokaster blocked in the Savings Bank affiliate in Gjirokaster 80 000 fake dollars and detained the culprits. /pas/xh/

[05] Pronunciations by Imami and Godo on Constitution of Albania

Speaking for the work that Albanian Parliament has to do after the approval of the Constitution, the other co-chairman of the Commission for the Constitution, Sabri Godo, said that now all parties must start to think and work differently. "In this aspect, returning to the parliament of the deputies of the Democratic Party and all opposition is an indispensability, because from now starts the most difficult time, that of making the laws," said Godo.

Laying the stress on the completion of the political spectrum in the Parliament, Godo added that the process for the drafting of laws will be deficient if all forces in the Parliament do not take part in formulating them. /pas/xh/

[06] Greek investors interested in investing in Korce

Baki Shahu, chairman of local Chamber of Commerce and Industry told ATA that a group of businessmen and representatives from Chamber of Commerce of Kozani region of Greece made a visit in Korce on Saturday. They were interested in Albanian legislation and economic, tourist and agricultural sources.

The representative of Kozani Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Antonios evaluated stability and public order in Albania's southeastern districts and expressed the investors' desire to invest in wholesale stores and aggro- food industry.

The Greek businessmen and the representatives from Kozani Chamber of Commerce were also received by Korce prefecture Bardhi Alickolli, district council chairman Frederik Mico and mayor Dhionis Kotmilo. /pas/lola/

[07] "DEKA" covers 65% of detergents market

"DEKA" company products, which consist of different detergents, cover round 65% of detergents market in Albania, as a consequence of high technology, applied by this factory, good quality and raw materials low price.

The factory has increased the number of its products reaching over 20. "DEKA" Company has its branches in 10 districts of the country, such as Shkoder, Burrel, Lushnje, etc. It has employed some 150 persons.

"DEKA" aims to extend its activity in light industry, producing soap, cooking oil and fruit juice.

"Deka", in cooperation with an Italian company, is going to build a factory to produce soap and margarine, which is estimated to reach 4.8 million dollars. /pas/lola/

[08] Constitution, you approved, has its roots here in Vlore, capital of independence - Meidani

"Let us all enjoy the passport of the Albanian people and nation in south and north, in west and east," Meidani said.

"I should come here to raise the Flag as 86 years ago the wise old man of Vlore, Ismail Qemali, to understand his deed and the history of Albania over these 86 years," Meidani said.

He stressed that the newly approved Constitution has its roots in Vlore, just as it has them in Shkoder, Lezhe and Kruje, in martyred Kosova, just as it has them wherever Albanian is spoken and blood is shed for the red and black flag, there where Albanians carry out and write civic works every day.

Meidani saidn in his address that when Albanians voted in favour of the Constitution, they respected the flag of the nation and not that of the parties.

"Today we are not enslaved like a century ago, but there is something that prevents us from convicingly marching on the right path," said Meidani in an appeal to give up intolerance, political revenge, unrestrained selfishness and greediness.

"Let the approval of the Constitution mark the first step of a new era in the development of Albanian society," Meidani concluded. /pas/lola/

[09] Constitution will bring long-term rules for Albania - Majko

"The new Constitution will bring long-term, written rules and nobody will be able to change them," said Majko.

Referring to the approach towards the opposition after the approval of the Constitution, Majko said that he had asked President Meidani that Parliament, not only symbolically, but also with the aim to start a new process, should restore Azem Hajdari's immunity.

OSCE ambassador in Tirane Daan Everts, who was present when Meidani signed the Constitution, said that "for the international opinion this is a very good Constitution, in compliance with European standards." /pas/lola/lm/

The conference of the OMONIA branch in Sarande was held on Friday which elected its leading bodies, sources from this organization told ATA.
