    TIRANA, Sept 30 (ATA) - By Th. Thanasi: Interference in the INTERNET network speculating with the code and initials of the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) will be investigated by the prosecutor's office soon.

    The news in INTERNET on September 13, '98 on an alleged accidental death of the leader of the Democratic party Sali Berisha, news claimed to have been broadcasted by ATA, will be investigated by prosecutors and respective specialists, sources of the investigation department at the General Prosecutor's office said to ATA on Wednesday.

    The same sources said that investigations would be linked with events of September 12, 13, 14 in Tirana.

    "The false news, broadcasted a night after the killing of lawmaker Azem Hajdari will be cleared up soon to find those interested in such a version," the sources said.

    Investigations will start in Tirana with the interrogation of the ATA leading officials and technical staff to be followed later with the investigations in the place the news was broadcasted. /pas/ak/

    [02] Tremor rocks Albania<br

    TIRANA, Oct 1 (ATA)-An earthquake measuring ML-5.0 on the Richter scale hit Albania at 01 43 local time, according to the Seismology Institute of the Academy of Sciences.

    The epicenter was located in western Macedonia, near the border with Albania (Kercove-Gostivar area).

    The quake was felt five degrees (EMS-92) in the town of Peshkopia and in the surrounding villages and four degrees in Tirana, Korce, Pogradec, Kukes and Elbasan.

    There are no immediate reports of damage. The quake was associated with several aftershocks. /s.s/lm/

    [03] Guard to be included in investigation of Sept. 14 events<br

    TIRANA, Sept 30 (ATA) - The guard of the Republic of Albania will be included in investigation concerning the events of September 14, '98, which led to the destruction of state institutions and looting of many shops.

    A group of prosecutors dealing with the armed rebellion has planned to investigate all the activity of the Guard of the Republic in that day, Aleksander Goga, military chief prosecutor, said to ATA on Wednesday.

    The investigation will focus on documents, orders given that day and will also take into consideration the testimonies of officials and soldiers of the guard.

    They will establish how the tanks were commandeered by the crowds, Goga said. /pas/ak/

    [04] Parliament passes law on public, private radio television<br

    TIRANA, Oct 1 (ATA) - By K. Shehu: Albanian parliament passed on Wednesday evening a draft law on public and private radio television.

    This law contains 145 articles included in 12 chapters and is drawn up with the assistance of the Council of Europe.

    It offers mechanisms which enable changing state radio television into public radio television and issue licences for all private radio television channels.

    The law bans political parties, religious organisations and state bodies from having private television while the sponsoring of private television will be made public.

    The law was worked out by a group of experts headed by the Socialist deputy Musa Ulqini. Its important issues have been discussed by round tables. /pas/ak/

    [05] Constant cooperation of Albanian army with Bundeswehr<br

    TIRANA, Sept 30 (ATA)-Cooperation of the Albanian army with Bundeswehr has been constant, deputy Minister of Defence Ilir Bocka told a German military delegation on Wednesday afternoon.

    The German delegation is headed by deputy commander of the Hamburg Academy, General Herder, the spokesman of the ministry reports.

    Responding to the interest shown by the German general, Bocka dwelt on the tense situation at home and in the region and the position and tasks of the army both at home and foreign levels.

    On the same day Herder met with the chief of the Army General staff, Brigade general Aleks Andoni, who made a presentation of the reconstruction of the armed forces of Albania, pointing to Bundeswehr's role in this process.

    Andoni also stressed the readiness of the Albanians to promote cooperation between the two armies.

    The German delegation is visiting Albania to attend the ceremony of the beginning of a two-year course at the General staff's Academy. /pas/lm/

    [06] Dramaturg Bashkim Hoxha appointed as director of Durres theatre<br

    DURRES, Oct 1 (ATA)-By G. Kabashi, Dramaturg Bashkim Hoxha was recently appointed as head of the cultural centre in Durres which also includes the theatre of drama and variety show "Aleksander Moisiu".

    The municipal council assigned the 45-year old dramaturg to this post, following the resignation requested by Xhelal Tafaj, nominated to this position five months ago.

    Hoxha, who has been running the TV station "Teuta" for a one and a half year, said he would also continue his private business in a parallel way. /pas/lm/

    [07] Drink factory starts exporting after 10 years of interruption<br

    DURRES, Oct 1 (ATA) - By S. Gjorderni: "Gjergj Kastrioti" drink factory in Durres started exporting drinks after 10 years of interruption.

    Astrit Hysi, factory director, said to ATA that some 100 hecto liters of "Skenderbeg" cognac had been exported. He added that they had planned to export some 250 hectoliters until the end of this year.

    The factory has signed contracts with three foreign firms, a British one for a ten-year period, a Madeconian, which has sent the Albanian cognac to the United States for the first time and a Slovenian. It is still negotiating for other contracts.

    Hysi said that the factory, one of the well-known factory in Albania for the production of alcoholic drinks, was not affected by recent unrest.

    The factory has deposited some 97 million leks to the state budget during the eight-month period, while some 6.7 million leks during September. /pas/ak/

    [09] Minister orders start of privatization procedures<br

    TIRANE, Sept 30 (ATA) - By E.Metaj: The Minister of Public Economy and Privatisation Ylli Bufi, has ordered the beginning of procedures of privatisation state packages of shares for 21 commercial enterprises through auctions.

    The press office of this institution told ATA on Wednesday that the order was issued to implement a government decision on privatisation procedures of state share package of commercial enterprises in non strategical sectors through auction.

    The Minister has ordered a 100 percent auction privatisation of state shares for three commercial enterprises.

    The National Privatisation Agency (NPA) will help start auction procedures and it will also evaluate the percentage of site owners and employees in these enterprises.

    The percentages evaluated by NPA, based on the government decision, will be sent to the Ministry of Public Economy and Privatisation to decide the way and formula of privatisation. /A.A/

    [10] Berisha to be investigated also for last year events<br

    TIRANA, Oct 1 (ATA)-By Th. Thanasi, The General Prosecutor's office on Thursday confirmed that DP chairman Sali Berisha, besides the mid- September '98 event, will also be investigated for the last year events.

    Inquiries into Berisha's case, due this week, will be complex. He will be investigated not only "as organiser of the armed uprising" on September 13-14 in Tirana, but also as responsible for ruining the state in last year's unrest, sources of the General prosecutor's Investigation Department told ATA on Thursday.

    The People's Assembly, based on the request of the prosecutor general, lifted the parliamentary immunity of Sali Berisha on September '98.

    The request to remove the immunity of Berisha and other DP deputies was submitted to Parliament on September 15. /pas/lm/

    [11] Grenade explosion in house of Greek consul' secretary<br

    GJIROKASTER, Oct 1 (ATA) - An offensive grenade exploded on Wednesday evening in the balcony of the personal secretary of the Greek consul in Gjirokaster without causing casualties.

    Police sources in Gjirokastra said to ATA that the offensive grenade was thrown at the second floor balcony of Eva Tsoliu, personal secretary, damaging the room communicating to the balcony.

    Kostas Kaqucis, the Greek general consul in Gjirokaster, went immediately to the site.

    Lieutenant colonel Edmond Stepa, chief of the local police station, refused to elaborate on investigations.

    This is the first attack against the staff of the consulate in Gjirokaster. Another staff of the consulate Vasil Citani, living in the apartment next to Tsoliu, was not affected by the explosion.

    The Greek consulate has not filed any complaint to the police of Gjirokaster.

    The consul was expected to meet high ranking order officials in the district. /pas/ak/

    [12] Programmes in pre-university schools improved<br

    TIRANA, oct 1 (ATA)-By P. Shuteriqi, The new academic year has begun with new plans and programmes for more than 700 000 pupils and teachers of the pre-university system.

    Ilia Paluka, responsible for the General Education System at the Ministry of Education and Science, told ATA on Thursday that for the middle schools the programme is realised in 28 classes a week, reducing the number of subjects such as literature, foreign language and other subjects, but adding that of informatics.

    The subjects reduced in the secondary schools include technical drawing, machine repair, knowledge on electronics, replacing them with the universal subject of technology.

    The five-day week has also brought about changes of programmes in the eight-year compulsory system, reducing classes in several subjects such as ABC, mathematics or that of practical work. /pas/lm/

    [13] Green light given for building of fish supermarket<br

    DURRES, Oct. 1 (ATA) - By S.Gjordeni: The Concil of Territory Regulation in the district of Durres, approved the square for building of a fish supermarket, the first supermarket of this kind in Albania.

    The chief of the Inspectorate of Fishing, Lefter Lula, told ATA that these days they are waiting for dilivering of a fond of $ 1 million through Phare programm which will be procured from the city's town hall.

    The Municiple Council gave 900.000 lek for the surrounding of supermarket's square.

    Luto said that this object with a surface of 5.000 square metres is to be built according to an Italian project in the entrance of the city, about 300-400 metres over the harbour. /pas/A.A/

    [14] Quake causes damage in Kukes<br

    KUKES, Oct 1 (ATA)-By R. Hoxha,

    The quake that hit Albania at 01.43 on Thursday has caused much damage in the Kukes district, Northeastern Albania.

    The chairman of the Bushtrice commune, Shahir Sula, says that in this commune the earthquake has damaged around 100 houses and 89 heads of cattle.

    He said that 10 families, whose houses have been mostly damaged, have been temporarily housed in premises, property of the commune.

    A commission to verify the quake's aftermath and take actions to eliminate them has already been set up in this commune.

    Damage has also been caused in the commune of Gryke e Cajes. The secretary of this commune, Ylli Shehu, says that 89 houses have been partly damaged while three others have become uninhabitable.

    The electric substation as well as power cables have been damaged causing a temporary power cut. /pas/lm/

    [15] Some 6.650 Kosova refugees in Durres district<br

    DURRES, Oct 1 (ATA)-By G. Kabashi, Some 6.650 Kosovars, who have left their land since by the beginning of June, due to Serb military machine repression, have settled in the Durres district.

    Gezim Bega, head of the staff charged with receiving the refugees, told ATA that the number of the Kosova families settled in the Durres city and the villages of Shkallnuer, Rrashbull, Katundi i Ri and Xhafzotaj has substantially increased since mid August.

    Some 4.300 people been enrolled in the administrative units in Durres and its most populated areas are Shkozet and Plazh (beach), with 1.053 and 776 people respectively.

    Bega said that the Kosova refugees have also been hosted by inhabitants with whom they have blood relations. Some of them have either hired houses or bought houses or lands to build them.

    Besides the amount of 1.500 leks per capita allocated by the state, the district's Red Cross Committee, backed by the non-governmental associations "Kosova", "Durres", "Fan Noli", "Riza Cerova" and similar associations in France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, has oraganised distribution of food aid and clothes to the refugees. /pas/lm/

    [16] Some 450 Kosova refugees settled in Shengjin<br

    SHKODER, Oct. 1 (ATA) - By M. Malja: Some 450 Kosova refugees, who have come in Albania over the last two weeks through the border check point of Vermosh (Northern Albania,) have been sheltered in the beach houses of Shengjin in the district of Lezha (Northwestern Albania.)

    A part of the newcomers will be settled in the Velipoja beach, some 30 km far from Shkodra.

    Some 1 600 out of 4 600 Kosova refugees have remained in the town of Shkoder.

    Sources from the Shkoder police department report that some 100 persons, mainly women and children, have entered the Albanian territory through Montenegro. /pas/mt/

    [17] Some 200 Albanians killed in last Serbian offensive<br

    PRISHTINE, Oct. 1, By Belul Jashari - ATA correspondent During the seven months of Serbian repressive operations in Kosova 1 505 civilians were shot dead and massacred, 200 of whom during the offensive which began last week, the Council for Human Rights reported.

    According to the same source, many other killed Albanians are not identified and there is also no information for the number of the people buried in massive graves, as well as for the destiny of about 1 500 lost ones.

    It was also reported on Thursday that the dead bodies of tens of killed and massacred Albanians were found in the mountain of Qyqavice and the areas nearby, as well as in the other regions of Kosova. /P.Ta/lola/

    [18] Inflation in Albania for Dec.97 and Aug.98 was 4.48 %<br

    TIRANE, Oct.1 (ata) - By Lolita Thanasi: Inflation in Albania for the Dec.97-Aug.98 period was 48 per cent.

    According to sources in the Bank of Albania, August also marka the end of the season for agricultural products. To this end, after a fall of the level of inflation during August there was an increase of inflation by 0.41 per cent with an increase in annual level of 16.67 per cent.

    The same sources said that with the present developments, positive levels are expected in the level of inflation perhaps its increase because the factor of casualty along other ordinary factors for this period has a great impact. /xh/
