Water cleaning facility in Boville reservoir tested

TIRANE, August 18 (ata) - By M Pupa: After the cleaning process of the tubes at a length of 10 km which link the dam with the cleaning facility, the test in the cleaning facility itself started, the director of the Project, Arben Zajmi told ATA.

    [04] Unemployment in Albania

    - Declared figures not very realistic

TIRANE, 18 August /ATA - Lolita Thanasi/ - The number of registered unemployed at the offices of employment, at the end of July was 219,303 or 17.2% of the active labour force of our country (valuated in 1,273,920 according to INSTAT), at a time when at the end of the last year these figures were respectively 193,526 and 15.2%.

These percentages reflect the unemployed people registered in the state offices of employment against the active labour force in the country.

Number of unemployed and the level of unemployment in Albania has been recently an issue of debates and arguments, which by no means contradict each other but are almost all the same acceptable.

The most discussed issue is of course the official number of unemployed. According to some international officials, Albania should have a very high rate of unemployment and that government should do a better evaluation of the hidden unemployment in the rural areas.

There is also another version, which suggests that to have a more realistic number of unemployed it should be valuated only in towns and excluding thus the rural population in the estimation of active labour force in the country.

"This contradiction rises because of the definition or agreement on who should be included in the notion of unemployed", said for ATA, Eduart Prodani, Director of National Service of Employment.

According to International Labour Organisation (ILO), and accepted in general, an unemployed person is called one who is declared as such in a public office (office of employment) and is ready to start immediately a new job that is offered. This is called a registered unemployment and most countries mean this kind of unemployment when declare different data or the level of unemployment, said he./fh/
