  • [01] Investigation commission finishes final report in general lines

    TIRANA, May 16 (ATA) - By K. Kostreci: The parliamentary investigation commission on last year's riots finished on Saturday the final report, which will be presented in Parliament within May 25.

    Meanwhile, the commission chairman, Spartak Ngjela, said that the report has not finished yet, and added that "it will be ready on Monday or Tuesday next week."

    The member of this commission, Spartak Braho, said that the report has finished in general, and only the opinions of all the commission members are expected now.

    "The report will uncover the names of the persons responsible on last year's turmoil," said Braho.

    The investigation commission presented a preliminary report in Parliament in February of this year, which was criticized by the deputies for not being concrete regarding the responsibilities. /mt/

    [02] Minister Milo voices wish to boost cooperation with Monte Negro

    TIRANA, May 16 (ATA) - Albania's Foreign Minister Paskal Milo expressed Saturday the will of the Albanian government to strengthen the cooperation with the government of Monte Negro.

    During a meeting with the Minister without portfolio of the Montenegrin Government, Ferhat Dinosha, Milo expressed the wish to have good relations of cooperation and exchanges in fields with mutual interest between the two governments.

    Milo said that the Albanian government has attentively followed the last democratic processes in Monte Negro, mainly after the presidential elections held there, where the Albanian factor played an important role, according to the press and information department close to the Foreign Ministry.

    Dinosha voiced the delight for his visit in Albania on the behalf of the government he represents and as Albanian and stressed that the current government of Monte Negro is interested in cooperating with the Albanian government in different fields with mutual interest, by increasing first the contacts between them.

    Dinosha briefed on the activity of Albanians in Monte Negro, a factor which has started to be integrated in the political, economic and social activity of Monte Negro.

    Milo and Dinosha also discussed about the latest developments in the region and mainly the events in Kosova, stressing the joint option that the solution of the Kosova problem should be reached through direct negotiations in the presence of the international factor. /s.s/das/mt/

    [03] Government coalition continues work to appoint candidates for local polls

    TIRANA, May 16 (ATA) - By K. Kostreci: The five-party government coalition and the National Unity Party continued Saturday the work for the examination and appointment of candidates in the partial local elections to be held on June 21 of this year.

    "Only three candidatures have remained out of 16 for the town-halls and communes in which the elections will be held," the Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Pandeli Majko, told ATA.

    Meanwhile that the chairman of a coalition party, the Human Rights Union Party, Vasil Melo, said that his party has asked the reviewing of candidatures in three town-halls, Majko said that "there will be no reviewing."

    "We are not pleased from the way of procedures regarding the candidatures, because we are really a coalition, but this does not mean that we should be anonymous, each party has its own identity," said Melo.

    "Every party is free to be represented alone in the elections, if it requests elections out of the coalition," said Majko.

    The remained candidatures will be appointed on Monday.

    The government coalition is made up of the Socialist Party, the Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Alliance, the Human Rights Union Party and the Agrarian Party. /s.sh/das/mt/

    [04] Constant aid of Council of Europe for Albanian justice

    TIRANA, May 16 (ATA) - Albania's Minister of Justice Thimjo Kondi will leave Sunday for Strasbourg on a working visit, invited by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Daniel Tarcys.

    The spokesman of the Justice Ministry reported to ATA that Kondi, on behalf of the Albanian government, will sign with the senior authorities of the CoE the European Convention on Extradition, the European Convention on the Mutual Assistance in the Penal Cases, the European Convention on the Transfer of Procedures in Penal Cases, as well as the Convention on the Transfer of Punished Persons. /a.ke/das/mt/

    [05] Fierce fights in region of Kline, an Albanian killed

    PRISHTINA, May 17 - ATA correspondent in Prishtina, Belul Jashari, reports: Fierce fights are being held on Sunday in the region of Kline (Western Kosova). An Albanian was killed last night in the Zajm village.

    According to the Human Rights Council in Kosova, the murder has happened in vicinity of the road Prishtina-Peje. Due to the constant armed confrontations, this road continues to be blocked since several days.

    The military operations, according to reports from Kline, have swept since midday even the other villages in the surroundings where the rivers Drini i Bardhe and Bistrica of Peje are intersected.

    Reinforcements of the military, police and premilitary forces go to this region and helicopters always fly.

    Sources from Kline reported that many ambulances have been seen today going towards Peje. /fh/das/mt/

    [06] Serbian forces do not allow trucks with goods in Kosova

    PRISHTINA, May 16 - ATA correspondent in Prishtina, Belul Jashari, reports: The Serbian forces have stopped hundreds of trucks with goods in the border Kosova-Serbia on Friday evening and Saturday.

    According to Albanian sources, the police have been ordered not to allow the entrance in Kosova of the flour and other food articles. The blockage of merchants and the supply of populations with food stuff are a kind of pressure made by the Serbian regime in Kosova.

    While in the border line Kosova-Albania and in the other surroundings of Gjakova and Decan the situation was very grave on Saturday.

    The Baballoq village on Friday night and Saturday has been shot by heavy arms of the Serbian police and army.

    The detentions, men hunting and maltreatments of Albanians still continue. In this campaign, the Serbs arrested on Saturday Gani Shehu, chairman of the Kosova Democratic League in Junik.

    In all the regions are under curfew, the movement of citizens have become impossible and there is lack of food stuff and medicines. The shops are closed. /mp/das/mt/

    [07] Charge d'affaires of Albanian Embassy in Belgrade visits Kosova

    PRISHTINA, May 16 - ATA correspondent in Prishtina, Belul Jashari, reports: The charge d'affaires in the Albanian Embassy in Belgrade, Florian Nova, met Saturday in Prishtina with the deputy chairman of the Kosova Democratic League, Kole Berisha and other leaders of this party.

    According to the Kosova Information Center, leader of KDL informed Nova of the grave situation in Kosova and asked a greater engagement from the Albanian state institutions and their mechanisms in the international institutions for the fair and durable solution of the Kosova issue.

    Nova stressed that the Albanian Government will do everything possible for the peaceful solution of the Kosova matter.

    In the meeting was also stressed the necessity to hold more frequent contacts of this kind in the future. /mp/das/mt/
